Bharat Telecom 2025: India emerges as hub of telecom manufacturing, network innovation
NEW DELHI: The Telecom Equipment and Services Export Promotion Council (TEPC), in collaboration with the Department of Telecommunications ( DoT ), organised the 22nd edition of the two-day Bharat Telecom Event 2025 between May 6, 2025, and May 7, 2025, to support the country's vision of becoming a global hub for telecom manufacturing, services, and exports. The event was inaugurated by Jyotiraditya Scindia , Minister of Communications and Development of North Eastern Region, in the presence of Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani , Minister of State for Communications, senior government officials, telecom industry leaders, foreign delegates, and innovators. 'Bharat Telecom is not just a conference — it is a declaration of India's intent to shape the future of global connectivity through innovation, collaboration and inclusive growth,' Scindia said while inaugurating the conference. 'When ideas, innovation and intent come together in harmony, they create not a cacophony, but a symphony — and Bharat Telecom is that symphony of global collaboration and opportunity,' he had said. The union minister also discussed the Centre's plan to roll-out a $4 billion investment plan to connect every village and attain 100% telecom connectivity saturation, the mulit-billion dollar invested in the deployment of fifth-generation (5G) networks, mobile phone production in India, and Apple's strategy to source all iPhones from the country. "The PLI scheme for telecom and network products has catalysed domestic manufacturing hubs. This policy has attracted investment worth ₹4,000 crores, generated sales of more than ₹80,000 crores, and created substantial employment opportunities while building self-reliance in critical telecom equipment for the country," Pemmsani, in turn, said at the Bharat Telecom 2025 event. Arnob Roy , Chairman, TEPC, in his welcome address said, "Bharat Telecom showcases the transformative power of India's indigenous telecom ecosystem, highlighting our unparalleled growth and innovation in the global telecom industry." Roy said that the Indian government's strategic policies have fostered innovation and manufacturing in the telecom sector. Bharat Telecom 2025 included multiple panel discussions with panelists deliberating and discussing themes such as ' Telecom API Economy ', ' Private Networks for Industry 4.0 ', and ' Next-Gen Broadband: The Catalyst for a Digital Leap '. Parallelly, the event also held the Bharat Telecom Exhibition 2025, which included homegrown vendors and services firms Tejas Network, HFCL , C-DOT, Sensorise, GX Group, XS Infosol, Huber+Suhner, Indio Networks, Niral Networks, Astrome, INVAS Technologies, Sparsh CCTV, and others. It also featured thematic exhibitions, high-impact business-to-business (B2B) meetings, strategic networking sessions and knowledge-sharing forums focusing on cutting-edge communication technologies such as 5G, optical fibre, broadband infrastructure, satellite communication, Internet of Things (IoT), artificial intelligence (AI)-driven networks, and more. The event saw proactive international participation, with more than 134 foreign delegates from over 35 countries, representing government bodies, private enterprises, vendors, and innovative firms. Apple to source, produce all its mobiles in India in years to come: Scindia
Scindia: In just 22 months, India linked 99% of villages with 5G NEW DELHI: Asserting that US giant Apple "has decided to source and produce all its mobile phones in India in the years to come," telecom minister Jyotiraditya Scindia on Tuesday said the country has emerged as an affordable and reliable manufacturing partner for smartphone makers across the at the Bharat Telecom event, Scindia said the investment in India at present is not just an act of goodwill but also makes economic sense for every OEM (original equipment manufacturer).The minister said the telecom equipment market, aided by govt's production-linked incentive scheme, has witnessed multi-fold growth. "Investment of Rs 4,000 crore, half a billion dollars alone, has resulted in sales of Rs 80,000 crore, Rs 16,000 crore in exports, (and) 25,000 jobs being created. Therefore, the telecom equipment market has also grown manifold in India," he has not only caught up with the world in areas like 4G and 5G, but is now leading the charge, with sweeping reforms and technological innovation shaping the country's trajectory, he CEO Tim Cook recently announced that the company will source the majority of iPhones sold in the US from India in the June quarter, while China will produce the majority of the devices for other at 'Bharat Telecom 2025', an event attended by more than 130 foreign delegates from over 35 countries, telecom minister Jyotiraditya Scindia said it is not just a conference, but more of a declaration of India's intent to shape the future of global connectivity through innovation, collaboration and inclusive growth. "It is empowering 1.4 billion citizens with access to healthcare, education, governance, and economic opportunity," he said. Minister of state for telecommunications Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani said India from being a large importer of mobile phones, around 2014, India has now become a large producer and exporter of mobile phones.

India set to lead world in 6G: Jyotiraditya Scindia
New Delhi, May 6 (UNI) Describing India's 5G rollout as 'monumental', Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia on Tuesday said the country is not just keeping pace with global telecom developments but is now on course to lead the world in 6G technology. Speaking at the 22nd edition of Bharat Telecom 2025, Scindia said: 'In just 22 months, 99 per cent of our villages have been connected via 5G, covering 82 per cent of the population. This phenomenal progress is no accident, it is a direct result of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visionary leadership, bold reforms, and transformative policies.' Outlining India's digital growth trajectory, the Minister said the country is poised to become a $4 trillion economy by 2028, $5 trillion by 2031, and $6 trillion shortly thereafter, driven by its digital backbone and innovation-led development. India now accounts for 46 per cent of global digital transactions, primarily enabled by the Unified Payments Interface (UPI), with nearly $3 trillion worth of transactions recorded last year alone, he said. Data consumption in the country has also surged significantly, with urban households and businesses now consuming 12 times more data than before. 'India is not merely participating in the digital revolution, we are leading it, shaping it, and inspiring the world to follow,' Scindia said. The Minister also spotlighted India's emergence as a global manufacturing hub. Mobile phone production has risen from 50 million units a decade ago to 350 million units today, he said, adding that tech giant Apple has begun manufacturing in India. Meanwhile, telecom equipment exports have jumped from ₹8,500 crore to nearly ₹20,000 crore. 'Investing in India is no longer just a gesture of goodwill—it makes strong economic sense.
