Three Arrested For Allegedly Poisoning School Tanker Water To Get Muslim Principal Transferred

According to SP Bhimashankar Guled, Sagar Patil, the president of the Sri Ram Sene's Savadatti taluk unit, is believed to be the mastermind behind the plot. At least three people were arrested for allegedly poisoning a water tank of a school that left 11 students hospitalised. The incident took place in Belagavi district two weeks back. Sagar Patil, one of the arrested accused, is the president of the Sri Ram Sene's Savadatti taluk unit. The incident happened at a government Kannada primary school in Hulikatti village after toxic chemicals were deliberately added to the school's drinking water, reported TOI. Speaking about the incident, Belagavi Superintendent of Police Bhimashankar Guled told reporters that the accused had planned the act with the intention of targeting the school's headmaster, who is from the Muslim community. The officials in the investigation found that the three accused, identified as Sagar Patil, Krishna Madar and Magangouda Patil, allegedly poisoned the tank as they believed that this would get the headmaster transferred. Meanwhile, the students who fell ill have been discharged from the hospital after being treated, reported TOI. The accused have been sent to judicial custody. According to SP Bhimashankar Guled, Sagar Patil is believed to be the mastermind behind the plot. He reportedly pressured Krishna Madar into participating by threatening to expose his relationship with a girl from a different community. 'This act could have resulted in the massacre of innocent children. It is a terrifying reminder of how religious bigotry and communal hatred can manifest in such inhuman ways," the CM posted on X. The CM took a swipe at the BJP and accused it of contributing to an atmosphere of religious division. 'Will Pramod Mutalik, BY Vijayendra, or R Ashok take responsibility for this? Leaders who support such anti-social elements must come forward and atone for their sins," he said. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. B'gavi water poisoning rooted in hatred, bigotry: K'taka CM

Belagavi: Two weeks after drinking water laced with poison left 11 students indisposed at a government school in Belagavi district, Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah Sunday described it as "a heinous act driven by religious fundamentalism and hatred" and attacked BJP for creating an environment of religious polarisation. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The incident took place at Hulikatti village of Savadatti taluk. District superintendent of police Bhimashankar Guled told reporters that the school headmaster is from a minority community and three members of fringe group Sri Rama Sene had been arrested in connection with the case. Police sources claimed that the poisoning incident was part of a larger plan to discredit the headmaster, who has been heading the school for 13 years, and force his transfer from the district. The headmaster continues to serve the school despite continued attempts to malign him and tarnish his image. The CM, in a post on X Sunday, expressed shock and anguish over the incident, calling it "rooted in religious fundamentalism". "This act could have resulted in the massacre of innocent children. It is a terrifying reminder of how religious bigotry and communal hatred can manifest in such inhuman ways," his post said. The 11 students who fell ill after consuming the contaminated water were later discharged following treatment at a hospital in Savadatti. Of the three arrested in the case, Sagar Patil is president of Savadatti Taluk unit of Sene, police said. Reflecting on the gravity of the incident, Siddaramaiah said, "It is hard to fathom that such cruelty could arise in the land of the Sharanas, who proclaimed that compassion is the root of all religion." Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Siddaramaiah criticised BJP leaders, holding them morally accountable for creating a climate of religious polarisation. "Those who spread hatred in the name of religion for political gain must introspect. Will Pramod Mutalik, BY Vijayendra, or R Ashok take responsibility for this? Leaders who support such anti-social elements must come forward and atone for their sins," he said. Siddaramaiah said the government has set up a special task force to curb hate speech and prevent communal violence."We are taking stringent legal action, but public cooperation is crucial. Citizens must raise their voice, resist hate, and file complaints against those inciting division." Commending law-enforcement authorities, Siddaramaiah added, "I congratulate the police personnel who foiled this sinister plot. I have full faith that the judiciary will deliver justice and ensure the perpetrators face the consequences of their horrific crime."

Sri Ram Sene's protest march stopped by police in Belagavi

Belagavi: Hundreds of Sri Ram Sene activists, led by their chief Pramod Mutalik, attempted to launch the 'Ingali Chalo' protest march from Belagavi on Thursday, condemning the recent assault on cow vigilantes at Ingali village in Hukkeri taluk. However, police detained the activists before the march could commence. The protest was in response to the incident where five Sri Ram Sene members were allegedly tied to a coconut tree and assaulted by locals in Ingali village. Belagavi police have since arrested four accused and registered a suo-motu case in connection with the attack. According to Belagavi superintendent of police Dr Bhimashankar Guled, the conflict was triggered after the activists allegedly entered the residence of a Muslim family, causing panic among women inside. He said this intrusion provoked the reaction from villagers. The SP also raised concerns about the background of one of the assaulted individuals, who is a rowdy sheeter, and questioned whether he officially represented the Sri Ram Sene. Rejecting the SP's version of events as 'false' and 'misleading,' Sri Ram Sene launched the 'Ingali Chalo' campaign. Protesters first formed a human chain at Rani Channamma Circle, raised slogans against the govt, and later marched to the deputy commissioner's office to submit a memorandum. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Trending in in 2025: Local network access control [Click Here] Esseps Learn More Undo As they proceeded toward Ingali, police detained several leaders, including district president Gangadhar Kulkarni and Ravikumar Kokitkar. Earlier, while addressing the gathering, Pramod Mutalik condemned the attack on SRS workers, stating, "This is not Pakistan or Afghanistan. Assaulting cow vigilantes in such a Taliban-style manner is unconstitutional. The govt must take strict action. If this repeats, the Hindu community will respond." In response to SP Guled's remarks questioning the involvement of a rowdy sheeter in the vigilante group, Mutalik defended the individual. "Today, police are branding even Hindu activists like Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat and Chakravarthy Sulibele as rowdies. This is an attempt to divert public attention from the real issue." He alleged that the administration is trying to protect the accused and suppress cow protection efforts by discrediting the activists.
