Congress leader Bhupesh Baghel seeks answers from govt on Pahalgam, Operation Sindoor 'ceasefire'

JABALPUR: Congress leader Bhupesh Baghel has said Prime Minister Narendra Modi should explain why there was no security for tourists in Pahalgam, where terrorists attacked them on April 22, and did the government agree to a "ceasefire" with Pakistan under pressure from the United States. Following the horrific Pahalgam attack which claimed 26 lives, India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7, striking at terror infrastructure in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir and Pakistan. The neighbouring country retaliated with drones and missiles but failed to cause harm. The two nations announced cessation of hostilities on May 10. Speaking at the opposition Congress' 'Jai Hind' rally here on Saturday, former Chhattisgarh chief minister Baghel accused the BJP of politicising Operation Sindoor and asserted the country's armed forces do not belong to any party. The Congress' event coincided with the PM's mega women empowerment event in Bhopal, 300 km from here. "Tell people why there was no security arrangement in Pahalgam. Where are those four terrorists? Was the ceasefire done under pressure from the US and who took the decision on the ceasefire, officers or the government?" Baghel said addressing the gathering.

Baghel hits out at BJP for ‘politicising' military, seeks clarification on US role

Jabalpur: Chhattisgarh former CM Bhupesh Baghel on Saturday accused the central govt of compromising India's stance on Kashmir, questioning whether the Centre had accepted the US mediation on Indo-Pak ties in violation of the Shimla Agreement. Addressing media persons in Jabalpur, Baghel said the US president first shared information about the ceasefire between India and Pakistan. He questioned what compelled a "prime minister with a 56-inch chest to be afraid of the US president". Baghel said: "We never accepted mediation. Even in 1971, (Ex-US president Richard) Nixon sent the Seventh Fleet. The then prime minister (Indira Gandhi) was not afraid and divided Pakistan, creating Bangladesh. Look at the situation today." He questioned who authorised the US president to meditate on the Indo-Pak issues, and on what terms the ceasefire was agreed upon. "We launched an attack to eliminate terrorists, and the US president claims it's a Kashmir issue. The Shimla Agreement clearly states that there will be no third-party intervention. The question is whether the govt accepted the US president's mediation or not," he said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like [Click Here] 2025 Best Luxury Hotel Prices Expertinspector Learn More Undo He further said: "We all take pride in the valour and courage of our military. The military does not belong to any party or govt but to the entire nation. The way the BJP is politicising the military is unfortunate. There is no question mark on the military's bravery; the questions are directed at the govt." "Why were 26 people in Pahalgam not provided security, and who are their killers? Who are the four terrorists responsible for the killings who have not yet been captured?" Baghel asked. BJP politicising & demeaning Army for electoral gains: Baghel

Raipur: AICC general secretary and former CM Bhupesh Baghel said that the BJP politicised ' Operation Sindoor '. The sindoor that women adorn in their head parting as a symbol of their husbands' well-being is now being used by BJP leaders to create division, Baghel said. The Indian Army does not belong to any political party, nor to any particular govt. The Indian Army belongs to the nation and has always made the ultimate sacrifice to uphold the unity and integrity of the country, said Baghel while talking to reporters after the 'Jai Hind Sabha' at Jabalpur in Madhya Pradesh. "There will be many other opportunities to seek votes, Prime Minister. Please do not demean the Army by using it for political gain," Baghel added. "Why has the govt not identified the four terrorists of Pahalgam until now?" Baghel asked. The Congress leader demanded that the govt make the ceasefire terms public. He also questioned why a ceasefire was implemented at the behest of an American President, stating that the Shimla Agreement clearly stipulates that no third party should interfere in the issue between India and Pakistan. Baghel also recalled how former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi fought Pakistan and created Bangladesh.

Cong questions ceasefire during Pathankot rally

Congress leaders, who organised their 'Jai Hind' rally here on Friday to express solidarity with the defence forces, questioned the ceasefire when Pakistan had been brought to its knees. Addressing the rally, Congress general secretary in-charge of Punjab Bhupesh Baghel expressed objection to US President Donald Trump announcing the ceasefire. He recalled how Indira Gandhi stood her ground against then US President Richard Nixon in 1971 and refused to withdraw even after he deployed the Seventh Fleet in the Bay of Bengal. Gandhi broke Pakistan into two pieces, he pointed out. He said certain questions need answers like where did the four terrorists who killed 26 people in Pahalgam vanish and how was the huge quantity of RDX brought to Pulwama in 2019. Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring said the way the ceasefire was announced by a third country, everyone felt sad and disappointed. 'When Pakistan had been brought to its knees, what was the hurry to go for the ceasefire,' he asked.

"Mental Bankruptcy": BJP leader Tarun Chugh slams Bhupesh Baghel

New Delhi [India], May 29 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Tarun Chugh on Thursday hit out at the Congress party over remarks made by its leader Bhupesh Baghel in reference to terrorism, labelling it as 'mental bankruptcy'. He said that this was the party that failed to act against Pakistan despite the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks. Chugh further accused Congress of engaging in 'politics of lies' on issues like terrorism, which he said was harmful to the country's national security. 'This is the same Congress that didn't teach Pakistan a lesson even after the 26/11 (Mumbai terror) attacks. They didn't do anything during their tenure but are now engaging in politics of lies on such sensitive topics. This mentality of the Congress causes harm to the country's national statement by the Congress is mental bankruptcy,' Chugh, also the National General Secretary of the BJP, told ANI. He lashed out at former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, stating that his statement was proof of a 'shameless anti-national mentality.' 'Will the Congress view a sensitive issue like terrorism from the lens of 'loss and gain'? Have people from Italy given these instructions? Bhupesh Baghel's statement is proof of shameless anti-national mentality. Why couldn't you stop Naxalism and terrorism?... We have acted against all forms of terrorism with a zero-tolerance policy,' the BJP leader added. Meanwhile, Telangana BJP leader N Ramachander Rao objected to Congress leader Bhupesh Baghel's statement calling the Congress party a bigger victim of terrorism. Rao called the former Chhattisgarh CM's statement 'foolish'. Talking to ANI, the BJP leader said, 'Statement of former Chhattisgarh CM Baghel is surprising and it is his foolishness to say Congress is a bigger loser and affected during terror strikes and Naxalite attacks. He is forgetting that not only Congress but the nation has suffered due to terrorism, Naxalites and ultra-groups' activities.' This comes after Baghel said that if someone has suffered the heaviest loss due to terrorism, it is Congress, while the BJP has gained from it. Commenting on Congress leader Udit Raj's attack against MP Shashi Tharoor, N Ramachander Rao said, 'The Congress leaders seem to be frustrated because of the support India is getting due to the all-party delegations going to various countries and explaining Operation Sindoor and India's stand on terrorism.'
