New Trailer For IT: WELCOME TO DERRY Teases The History of Pennywise's Terror — GeekTyrant
HBO Max just dropped a chilling new trailer for IT: Welcome to Derry , and horror fans got their first look at the upcoming series during a late-night panel at San Diego Comic-Con. The show promises to take us deeper into Stephen King's terrifying world, exploring the dark history behind Pennywise and the cursed town of Derry. The teaser sets an unsettling tone as it opens with a sense of unease spreading through the quiet streets of Derry as children begin disappearing. At the center of this nightmare is a young woman, played by Taylor Paige, who moves to town with her husband just as things start to spiral. While Bill Skarsgård's Pennywise only makes a brief appearance at the end, his sinister presence looms throughout the trailer. Set in the universe of King's iconic novel, Welcome to Derry expands on the vision introduced by Andy Muschietti in the feature films. Muschietti, who is executive producing the series alongside Barbara Muschietti and Jason Fuchs, says the show will dive deep into the roots of Derry's nightmares: 'There's a reason why the story is told backwards.' The first season is set in 1962, a few years before the events of IT: Chapter One . Future seasons will travel even further into the past, with Season 2 exploring 1935 and Season 3 going all the way back to 1908. The series draws inspiration from the interludes in King's original novel, which detail Mike Hanlon's research into Derry's horrific past. Muschietti explains: 'The interludes are basically chapters that reflect Mike Hanlon's research… fragments of his research. For 27 years, it's the guy trying to figure out what it is, what did it, who did it, who saw it, and all that stuff.' Each season will explore one of Pennywise's 27-year cycles of terror and the catastrophic events that came with them. Muschietti teases: 'They talk about catastrophic events from the past, like the fire in the Black Spot… the massacre of the Bradley Gang, a gang of bank robbers in the '30s… and the explosion of the Kitchener Ironworks.' These tragedies will serve as the backbone of the show's narrative, promising a bloody and terrifying history lesson for fans of the franchise. Muschietti confirms: 'We are basing the three seasons of this series on each of these catastrophic events.' With excitement coming out of Comic-Con and Warner Bros. reportedly thrilled with the first season, there's already talk of fast-tracking Season 2. IT: Welcome to Derry is shaping up to be one of the most exciting horror series of the year, offering fans a chance to see the origins of Pennywise like never before. Get ready to return to the town where fear was born when the series premieres on HBO later this year. Here are some details on each of the tree stories: The Black Spot: The Black Spot is one of the most memorable stories and it is told by Mike Hanlon's father, Will Hanlon, a tale he kept hidden until his last days. In It 's second interlude, Mike visits his father in the hospital and listens to his dad recount a harrowing chapter from his youth. Years before, Will Hanlon and his fellow Air Force servicemen had created a nightclub called The Black Spot, a haven for Black patrons in a time of segregation and deep-seated racism. One night, the Maine Legion of White Decency, a violent supremacist group, burned the club to the ground, killing many innocent people. And while the Legion set the blaze, something far more sinister was lurking in the flames… It itself, taking the shape of a monstrous bird, snatching up its victims amid the fiery chaos. One of the people inside was a young Dick Halloran from The Shining , who worked in the club's kitchen. The Bradley Gang: The Bradley Gang was group of Depression-era outlaws who arrive in Derry in 1929 to hide out from the FBI. They are gunned down by members of the Derry community on Canal Street in the middle of the afternoon, while arriving at Machen's Sporting Goods store to pick up a shipment of ammunition. Mike Hanlon recalls seven members of the Bradley Gang, though Norbert Keene, who was alive during the ambush, recalls eight members. The gang consists of its leader, Al Bradley, and his brother, George. They rob six or seven banks in the Midwest and kidnap a banker for a ransom of thirty thousand dollars before deciding to kill the banker anyway. The other gang members are the brothers Joe and Cal Conklin, Arthur 'Creeping Jesus' Malloy, handsome Patrick Caudy, George's common-law wife, Kitty Donahue, and Caudy's on-and-off again girlfriend, Marie Hauser. The Explosion of the Kitchener Ironworks: The Kitchener Ironworks was an ironworks outside of Derry. In 1906, despite every machine in the works having been shut completely down, the Ironworks inexplicably exploded, killing a group of 88 children and 102 total people who were participating in an Easter egg hunt. The tragedy was caused by It sabotaging the equipment, presumed to be responsible for eight missing bodies. This marked the beginning of the creature's 27-year hibernation period.

Bill Skarsgård reprises his role as the supernatural, child-killing clown Pennywise from two It blockbuster films in the show, which takes place in 1960s Maine. The cast of the series also includes Taylour Paige, Jovan Adepo, Chris Chalk, James Remar, Stephen Rider, Madeleine Stowe and Rudy Mancuso. A second teaser for the show was released on Sunday. From Fallout's Walton Goggins to Game of Thrones's Kit Harington, Marvel fans are discussing the MCU's biggest wasted castings

The problem with building an ever-expanding universe of superheroes and villains for them to battle is that the cast list can't stop growing, often leading to some stars getting placed in roles when they could've been better used elsewhere. For example, as great as Mads Mikkelsen was as Kaecillius in Doctor Strange, it feels like the world will always have been missing a perfect pick for Magneto, or even Doctor Doom, because he's just that cool to handle either role. Unfortunately, he and a few other big names have also suffered for their spot in the MCU, and fans have recently taken to Reddit to lament how much they never got to show their full potential. One Redditor highlighted Walton Goggins in Ant-Man and the Wasp and Kit Harington in Eternals, when he took the role of Black Knight-to-be, Dane Whitman. There was also the criminally underused Bill Skarsgård as Kro (don't worry, we struggled to remember his appearance, too), as well as Katy M. O'Brien and William Jackson Harper in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. Another fan argued there was still hope for some, though, writing, "I think Bill Skarsgard gets a pass here. Marvel could absolutely use him again, and a lot of people honestly don't even know that was him. I also have faith that we haven't seen the last of Goggins." One fan continued to support Goggins' reprisal of his role as black market dealer Sonny Burch, saying, "It's a damn shame that we haven't seen Goggins' character return yet. And it's a bigger shame that we haven't seen Sam Rockwell return either. Such a waste." The good news is that at this point, actors have played multiple roles in the MCU, and thanks to the multiverse, characters have and will be played by various actors, so some of these names can return in a different form. We'll keep an eye out in the hope that there's some space for the likes of Goggins, Harington, and more as the MCU powers on. One Of The Best Horror Movies Of The Decade Has Hit Netflix
Barbarian While horror movies are a dime a dozen, low budgets pursuing high returns, only a select few truly break out into the highest tier of the genre. This is one of those films. Netflix has just landed one of the best horror films of this decade, Barbarian, the 2022 movie directed by Zach Cregger and starring Georgina Campbell, Bill Skarsgard and Justin Long. It's an unforgettable, horrifying movie that changes direction so violently, I've never experienced anything quite like it. It's practically like two different films stitched together, but it works great. Here's the synopsis, and I would not read any more than that lest it give too much away: 'Traveling to Detroit for a job interview, a young woman books a rental home. But when she arrives late at night, she discovers that the house is double booked and a strange man is already staying there. Against her better judgment, she decides to spend the evening, but soon discovers that there's a lot more to fear than just an unexpected house guest.' Barbarian All I can say past that is that it features stellar performances from Campbell, Long and he's-everywhere-being-creepy-now Skarsgard, who has now played the clown from It and Nosferatu. among other parts. And it's stellar, original work from writer/director Zach Cregger, with the film nabbing a 92% critic score. Barbarian is also worth watching as it can serve as an introduction to Cregger, given that he's on the verge of releasing what appears to be another stellar horror film, at least judging by its trailer. That would be Weapons, out August 8, so still a ways off. That stars Julia Garner, Josh Brolin and Toby Huss and has one of the best horror trailers I've seen in recent memory: Past that, Cregger is about to go fully mainstream when he directs a new Resident Evil movie in 2026. No, we are moving past the lengthy (but very profitable!) Milla Jovovich era, and this seems like something that is going to be right up Cregger's alley. I thought I heard he was being pursued for a supernatural Marvel film at one point, but those are just rumors. I have little doubt Weapons will be good, given how well Barbarian went. Definitely check out Barbarian on Netflix now if you haven't, and read nothing else about it past what I'm saying here. You won't regret it. Follow me on Twitter, YouTube, and Instagram. The prequel is set 27 years before the events of the It film franchise, adapted from Stephen King's 1986 novel of the same name. Bill Skarsgard reprises his role as Pennywise, an evil entity who preys upon children of Derry, Maine, every three decades using a variety of powers, including shapeshifting. It: Welcome To Derry also stars Jovan Adepo, Chris Chalk, Taylour Paige, James Remar and Stephen Rider. Teasing what to expect from the creepy drama, Andy Muschietti and his sister and producing partner Barbara Muschietti previously told Entertainment Weekly: 'This is a book we love a lot, and we felt that there was still a lot of story to be covered. It's so rich with characters and events, we thought we would do justice to the book and the fans by going back into this world. 'Specifically, we are telling the stories of the interludes, writings by Mike Hanlon based on his investigation that includes interviews he conducts with the older people in the town. 'In Welcome to Derry, we touch on the usual themes that were talked about in the movie — friendship, loss, the power of unified belief — but this story focuses also on the use of fear as a weapon, which is one of the things that is also relevant to our times.' On X, It fans said they were preparing to 'be traumatised for the third time' after the trailer for Welcome To Derry dropped. Among them was @TerrySilverSimp, who commented: 'This actually looks creepier than the 2017 movie.' Echoing their sentiment, @XavierBenn27429 said: 'Horror genre is going off this yr & I love it.' @turquoisepogos shared: 'Can't wait to be traumatised for the third time.' @taylorsversion declared: 'Best day of the year already.' It: Welcome To Derry is due to premiere this autumn on HBO and HBO Max in the US. No UK release has been given, but like other HBO shows, including The Last Of Us and Succession, it will likely air on Sky and Now. If you can't wait until the horror's release, Amazon Prime viewers have been rediscovering Channel Zero, which was recently added to the streamer. An anthology series, the storylines for all the episodes are based on popular creepypastas (horror content posted on the internet). Channel Zero's first season was based on cartoonist and performer Kris Straub's Candle Cove. Starring Parks and Recreation's Paul Schneider and Killing Eve's Fiona Shaw, it centres on a child psychologist who returns to his hometown to determine if his brother's disappearance is connected to a bizarre children's television series. The second season follows a young woman and her group of friends as they visit a house of horrors, only to find themselves questioning whether it is a tourist attraction or something more sinister. More Trending Channel Zero's third season focuses on a young woman and her schizophrenic sister who move to a city haunted by a series of disappearances and, after suspecting that they may be connected to a baffling rumour, they must work together to discover what is preying on the city's residents.
