'It: Welcome to Derry' to premiere on HBO, HBO Max in October
July 27 (UPI) -- The It prequel, Welcome to Derry, is to premiere on HBO and HBO Max this October.
Bill Skarsgård reprises his role as the supernatural, child-killing clown Pennywise from two It blockbuster films in the show, which takes place in 1960s Maine.
The cast of the series also includes Taylour Paige, Jovan Adepo, Chris Chalk, James Remar, Stephen Rider, Madeleine Stowe and Rudy Mancuso.
A second teaser for the show was released on Sunday.

Movie review: 'Together' drags despite Brie, Franco commitment

File Photo by Chris Chew/UPI | License Photo July 25 (UPI) -- Together, in theaters Friday, has a clever premise but dawdles its way to the good parts. Alison Brie and Dave Franco rise to the occasion by selling the horror, but the film takes too long getting to its macabre extremes. Brie and Franco, who married in 2017, play Millie and Tim, a couple who move to the suburbs for her new teaching job. On a hike, they fall into a cave and drink some water that causes them to merge together. When they first wake up with their legs fused together, it's only slightly painful to pull apart. The pull toward each other grows more and uncomfortable, however, and difficult to separate. While a combination of prosthetic makeup and visual effects achieves the melding of flesh, it's the actors' performances that convince the audience Millie and Tim are in pain. Brie and Franco's bodies contort as their ailment pulls them together. The more entangled their connections, the more they must punish themselves to pull themselves apart. When the performances reach that level, they feel like Bruce Campbell in Evil Dead 2, willing to chop off his possessed hand with a chainsaw. Unfortunately, those moments are few and far between. Though it is necessary to explore some of Tim and Millie's relationship issues that the crisis exacerbates, that portion of the film could be more efficient. The couple's issues are rather basic. Tim is still trying to make his music career happen and is commitment-phobic about moving away with Millie. That's about as generic as relationship movies get. Millie fares a bit better, with Brie avoiding the trope of a domineering partner making ultimatums. But then, she seems either oblivious to Tim's very obvious discomfort or delusional in ignoring the red flags. The photography also goes overboard in depicting the magnetic pull Tim and Millie struggle to resist. Writer/director Michael Shanks loves to turn the camera upside down and after several of those shots, it's enough already. That Franco and Brie are married seems to contribute to their comfort in depicting the physical scenarios together. Non-married actors could certainly act, but it feels like a couple having fun folding themselves around each other. The moments of extreme horror are sure to elicit visceral reactions from viewers. Alas those moments are surrounded by a very banal relationship drama. Fred Topel, who attended film school at Ithaca College, is a UPI entertainment writer based in Los Angeles. New on HBO Max in August 2025 — all the new shows and movies to watch
HBO Max is back with another wave of new releases to keep you entertained throughout August. This month's batch includes new movies (including one with "The Fantastic Four: First Steps" star Pedro Pascal), plus plenty of library additions, documentaries, live sports and, of course, the very welcome return of a DC star: John Cena. Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck's "Freaky Tales" is an anthology movie all based on real events and real locations from Oakland, California, in 1987. Across one night, it sketches four scrappy stories about a variety of colorful characters — including an NBA star, a female rap duo, punk teens, and a career crook who wants to leave his criminal life behind, among others — with a genre movie feel and the odd shock of ultra-violence. "Freaky Tales" is fun, '80s-inflected stuff that some HBO Max subscribers are going to really get a kick out of. Stream on HBO Max from August 8 If you're looking for some family entertainment this month, Isaiah Saxon's fantasy adventure "The Legend of Ochi" seems a solid choice. This wondrous watch from A24 whisks us off to a small village on the island of Carpathia, where we meet Yuri (Helena Zengel), a young girl who is raised to fear creatures known as "the Ochi." When she encounters a lost baby, Ochi, she embarks on a journey to take him back home. It wasn't universally loved (it's 75% on Rotten Tomatoes) and drew criticism for having a slightness in the character/story departments, but for its impressive visuals and brilliant puppetry values, I think "The Legend of Ochi" warrants a watch. Stream on HBO Max from August 15 "Peacemaker" exploded onto the scene in 2022 as a raucous action comedy spinoff from James Gunn's pre-DCU 2021 hit, "The Suicide Squad" that gave John Cena's jingoistic antihero the limelight. The result? An utterly hilarious, hugely entertaining blood-soaked romp. Season 2 sees him discovering an alternate world where life is everything that Chris Smith/Peacemaker could want. The problem is, that discovery also forces him to face his own traumatic past. Judging by the teaser we've seen, that same winning vibe's been preserved, and then some, and I can't wait to see Peacemaker and his pals back in action.
