Alex Jones' car turned into a 'big hedge' by Doctor Who set designers

Alex Jones' car turned into a 'big hedge' by Doctor Who set designers 'The One Show' presenter, 48, once scrambled to get out of her home in Cardiff, Wales, at 4:30am and drive to film a TV music programme Alex Jones has been sharing her antique fair finds on social media (Image: Alex Jones (Instagram @alexjonesthomson) ) Alex Jones' car was unexpectedly turned into a "big hedge" by 'Doctor Who' set designers. 'The One Show' presenter, 48, once scrambled to get out of her home in Cardiff, Wales, at 4:30am and drive to film a TV music programme, but Alex panicked when she opened her front door and saw her yellow Volkswagen Beetle had "disappeared" as the BBC One sci-fi series shot a "period piece" in her street. ‌ Alex explained to McFly drummer Harry Judd, 39, on their 'Binge!' podcast: "When I was living in Cardiff, where they filmed 'Doctor Who', I once had to leave at 4.30[am] in the morning to go and record a music programme that I was presenting at the time. ‌ "It was a television programme, but we had to be in makeup at 6[am]. It was quite a drive, right? Anyway, so 4:30[am], I opened the front door, and my car disappeared, which I panic. "But instead, there's a big hedge outside my house. What had happened was the team of 'Doctor Who' - what do you call them, like designers, had turned my car into a hedge because they were filming on the street." ‌ Harry asked the TV star if it was a "prank", to which Alex replied: "No, so they were filming a period piece in 'Doctor Who'. "And, of course, they didn't want any modern-looking cars on the street." The 'All About You' hitmaker asked the former presenter of the BBC One shopping budgeting documentary series, 'Shop Well For Less': "They didn't ask your permission?" Article continues below Alex - who is set to appear in an episode of the current series of 'Doctor Who' "soon" where she had to "interview a guy" - admitted: "Well, maybe a slip of paper had come through the door. "And so I opened the front door, no car, and then realised that my lovely yellow Beetle at the time had been turned into a hedge ... "I just found somebody with a clipboard and said, 'Guys, I'm really sorry, but I'm going to need to move.' And they were like, 'Oh, no, what?! This is why we're filming at this time in the morning.'"

Alex Jones' dog 'cocked his leg' at Dame Mary Berry at RHS Chelsea Flower Show

Alex Jones' dog 'cocked his leg' at Dame Mary Berry at RHS Chelsea Flower Show The One Show' presenter's day at the Royal Horticultural Society's annual garden design and new plants showcase in Chelsea, London, took "a little bit of a different slant" The One Show star Alex Jones (Image: AlexJonesThomson Instagram ) Alex Jones' labrador Scout "cocked his leg" at Dame Mary Berry at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show. 'The One Show' presenter's day at the Royal Horticultural Society's annual garden design and new plants showcase in Chelsea, London, took "a little bit of a different slant" as she and her husband Charlie Thomson took their pooch to a dog-friendly garden, created by the 'Gardeners' World' presenter Monty Don, 69, and BBC Radio 2. ‌ However, Alex, 48, said it was a "shambles" to try and tell Scout that he can pee in one spot, but not urinate in another section of the "champagne garden". ‌ She told McFly drummer Harry Judd, 39, on their 'Binge!' podcast: "Monty Don, this year, in partnership with Radio 2, had created a garden that was suitable for dogs. "And so they invited a few people with dogs to bring their dog to the show. But how do you tell a labrador that you can pee here, but not here on the champagne garden? I mean, it was a shambles." Harry asked: "Is he cocking his leg yet?" Article continues below Alex replied: "Yeah. But, sort of, not in a fully committed way ... "He sometimes does like a full, just crouch. "And then sometimes cocks his leg. But he'd also cocked his leg at Mary Berry. He did! ‌ "So Charlie was with me, and it was nice, but it was manic because he was just on the lead the whole time." Alex and Charlie's day got worse when 57-year-old BBC newsreader Sophie Raworth's pooch "really [took] against" Scout and Alex was later "pulled" by her canine while BBC Radio 2 broadcaster Scott Mills, 52, tried to interview her. The former 'Shop Well for Less' host said: "And it was really hot. And, oh God, Sophie Raworth's dog had really taken against him. ‌ "So, I walked into the Radio 2 garden in the morning where there was Monty and there was Scott Mills, and there was Jo Whiley, and they all had their dogs there. "And he gets in, they're live on Radio 2. Oh, and all the dogs start barking." Harry said: "Because of Scout?" ‌ Alex answered: "Because - Scout doesn't bark. It's really weird. He doesn't bark. "But he was, you know, he's the friendly annoying pup, and all the older dogs are over it. "They're like, 'Stop trying to hump me. I'm a boy for a start!' Article continues below "So that was - and Scott interviewed me, and we got to half a sentence, and I was pulled by Scout off. And they went, 'Oh, we've lost Alex. She's gone. She's gone.' "So, it was a lovely day. I mean, Chelsea Flower Show is my favourite event of the year. My favourite day out next to Christmas Day. But, yes, yesterday, a little bit of a different slant on it with a dog."

Alex Jones says she 'hates' husband's habit that 'sends her into a spin'

The One Show presenter Alex Jones opened up about her home life with husband Charlie Thomson and their three children, Teddy, Kit and Annie, on the latest episode of the Binge! podcast The One Show's Alex Jones has revealed how one of her husband Charlie Thomson's habits "sends her into a spin". In a candid chat on their Binge! podcast, she told McFly star Harry Judd that Charlie loves to kick back with The Simpsons and has also introduced to their eight year old son Teddy. ‌ Yet Alex is apprehensive about whether the show, which is usually PG or 12-rated in the UK, is appropriate for their child, reports Wales Online. The series features the lives of Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa and Maggie Simpson. ‌ She explained her dislike for the series, saying: "I hate The Simpsons. That, what's his name [Homer], I hate him. "It's because Charlie keeps putting it on. He's the antithesis of me, he absolutely loves it, and he has now started showing it to Ted and it's just not suitable. "It sends me into a spin every time I walk into the room and the bloody Simpsons is on. No." A surprised Harry responded: "I've never heard that sentence in my life. How can you hate The Simpsons?" Harry, who admitted his own love for the programme, asked if Alex had given other animated comedies like Family Guy a watch. She promptly described Family Guy as "even worse" and revealed: "Charlie will sit and watch Family Guy late at night." ‌ Her co-host recalled: "I used to do that. In the band house early days we used to just sit and watch Family Guy late into the night. It's so good." 'The One Show' presenter Alex Jones, along with her husband Charlie and children Teddy, eight, Kit, five, and Annie, three, made the picturesque move from London to a delightful Georgian house in Tittenhurst Park, Berkshire last year. Speaking to The Times, Alex revealed: "For the children, it's been an absolute game-changer. They stopped coughing. I didn't realise it was a thing, but in London, they'd always have this cough and it would linger and that stopped." ‌ She added: "And now we can sit in the garden and they can run, and you know, fill hours outside, which is wonderful to see. So, we haven't looked back, really. We love it." Though she works in central, Alex said the balance they've struck between their home life and work, saying it is "quite healthy" to enjoy what each brings while keeping them distinct. The couple, whose romance sparked after a party introduction in 2011, saw Alex share her engagement news live on BBC One in February 2015. Their wedding took place at Cardiff Castle in December 2015, after which Alex opted to legally adopt the surname Thomson, though she continues to use her maiden name in her professional life. Alex has been presenting The One Show' since 2010, stepping up from a successful career in Welsh language television, and has graced our screens on shows like Strictly Come Dancing and The Great Stand Up to Cancer Bake Off.
