One dead, another seriously hurt in crash near Nyalau Bridge

BINTULU (May 29): A man was killed and another seriously injured in a road accident near the Nyalau Bridge along Jalan Pesisir Bintulu-Miri earlier today. According to Samalaju Fire and Rescue (Bomba) chief Irwin Abidin, a team from his station was dispatched to the scene after receiving a distress call at 1.59pm. The incident involved a white pick-up truck carrying two Indonesian nationals. 'One of the victims identified as Dafid Duanda Putra was found trapped in the driver's seat and was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel,' he said in a statement. The second victim, known only as Ikhsan, was ejected from the vehicle and suffered serious head injuries. He was given initial treatment at the scene before being transported to Bintulu Hospital at 3.03pm. Firemen rescue driver after car slams into back of container lorry at Bintulu traffic light
BINTULU, May 10 — A man sustained injuries after the car he was driving crashed into the rear of a container lorry at the traffic light junction of Kampung Jepak around midnight last night. According to the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Operations Centre, a team from the Bintulu Fire and Rescue Station (BBP Bintulu) was despatched to the scene after receiving a call regarding the incident at around 12.12am to carry out rescue operations and extricate the victim. 'Upon arriving at the location, the team found that the incident involved two vehicles, with the victim's car having rammed into the rear of a container lorry,' it said. The lorry driver, however, was confirmed to be uninjured. The team proceeded to extricate the victim, who was trapped in the front driver's seat, using special equipment. Once successfully freed, the 31-year-old local man was handed over to the Bintulu Hospital ambulance unit for further medical treatment. After completing clean-up work at the scene, the team concluded the operation at around 12.53am before returning to the station. — The Borneo Post

Bintulu police chief Supt Nixon Joshua Ali said as of yesterday, eight men and one woman in their 20s and 40s were detained and remanded to assist in the investigation. 'Investigations revealed that there are 11 more suspects still at large believed to be involved in the incident. Police will not compromise and remain committed to tracking down all the suspects,' he said in a statement last night. The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder. Nixon reminded the public not to spread false information or speculate about the case, urging them to direct relevant information to the investigating officer, ASP Mohammad Hashim Kasman, at 014-6817837 or to the Bintulu District Police Operations Room at 086-318304. A brawl was reported outside the entertainment outlet at 1am, where the 28-year-old local man was found bleeding.
