India achieved unthinkable in telecom, says Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar in Brazil

Brasilia : The BRICS Communication Ministers' meeting was hailed as "quite successful" by TDP leader and Union Minister of State for Communication, PemmasChandra Sekhar, who highlighted India's remarkable achievements in telecom infrastructure compared to other member countries. Speaking about the event, he said, "I have listened to ten other countries about how they have been doing with their telecom infrastructure. I am proud to say India has achieved something unthinkable. We have connected more than 95% of India. We have high-quality fibre to almost every village. We have more than 80% with 5G connections. We have explained to the world all the best practices we have done, all the satellite-based reforms we have done, and the preventive actions we have taken for the telecom fraud. So all in all, it's quite successful and we are one of the countries that have done much more than many other countries..." Sekhar's remarks underscored India's significant progress in telecom infrastructure showcased during the meeting held in Brasilia. Meanwhile, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has left for Brazil to participate in the 11th BRICS Parliamentary Forum , also scheduled in Brasilia, reflecting India's active engagement in BRICS multilateral platforms across sectors including communication and parliamentary diplomacy. Birla will represent India at the forum from June 3 to June 5. The event will focus on discussions around the role of BRICS parliaments in global governance. During the forum, Birla is set to address key topics, including Responsible and Inclusive Artificial Intelligence (AI), among other significant issues. He will also engage in bilateral talks with presiding officers from BRICS countries. In the current geopolitical context, Speaker Birla's visit holds strategic importance for India. The Indian delegation accompanying Birla includes the Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, Members of Parliament, and other officials. The delegation will also comprise Harivansh, Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha; Surendra Singh Nagar, Member of Parliament; Vijay Baghel, Member of Parliament; Vivek Thakur, Member of Parliament; Shabari Byreddy, Member of Parliament; Utpal Kumar Singh, Secretary General, Lok Sabha; and P.C. Mody, Secretary General, Rajya Sabha. According to a press release, the overall theme of the Eleventh BRICS Parliamentary Forum is 'The Role of BRICS Parliaments in Building a More Inclusive and Sustainable Global Governance.' The Lok Sabha Speaker will address the forums on 'Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation for Responsible and Inclusive Artificial Intelligence' and 'BRICS Parliaments United for the Reform of the Multilateral Peace and Security Architecture.' The delegation will also participate in the proceedings during the Plenary Sessions on sub-themes including 'BRICS Parliamentary Action in Search of New Paths for Economic Development'; 'Towards Stronger and More Durable BRICS Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation'; 'BRICS Inter-Parliamentary Alliance for Global Health'; and 'BRICS Inter-Parliamentary Dialogue on Climate and Sustainability.' A Joint Statement will be adopted at the end of the Summit. The Speaker, Lok Sabha, may also hold bilateral meetings with Presiding Officers of participating Parliaments on the sidelines of this Forum.

The U.S.-India Strategic Partnership Forum (USISPF) has awarded Kumar Mangalam Birla, Chairman, Aditya Birla Group, with the Global Leadership Award at its eighth annual Leadership Summit in Washington, D.C. He was honoured along with Arvind Krishna, Chairman, CEO and President, IBM and Toshiaki Higashihara, Executive Chairman, Hitachi. Mr. Birla received the honour for his leadership as Chairman of Aditya Birla Group, which is the largest Indian investor in the United States. The company has invested over $15 billion in the U.S. to date, with operations across 15 States and creating over 5,400 jobs, the Aditya Birla Group said. 'This recognition is a testament to Aditya Birla Group's deep commitment to the U.S., and belief in the potential to further deepen the U.S.-India partnership. We are proud to have started our journey in the U.S. over 18 years ago, and to place big bets here,' Mr. Birla said in a statement. Brasilia [Brazil], June 3 (ANI): Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and the Indian delegation on Tuesday arrived in Lisbon, where he held talks with Jose Pedro Aguiar-Branco, President of the Assembleia da Republica of Portugal on strengthening bilateral ties between both countries. Birla also met with the Minister for Home Affairs, Climate Change and Environment of Tuvalu, Maina Talia who strongly condemned the terrorist attacks in Jammu and Kashmir. 'Had a productive meeting with H.E. Mr. Jose Pedro Aguiar-Branco, President of the Assembleia da Republica of Portugal, in Lisbon today. Highlighted the imperative of strengthening our bilateral ties in light of evolving global challenges. We also identified significant potential for collaboration in critical sectors such as renewable energy, digital technology, and defence manufacturing. Shared insights on how India is leveraging technology, including AI, for transparent, efficient, and people-centric legislative processes. Extended an invitation to Portuguese legislators and officials to benefit from Lok Sabha Secretariat programmes for capacity building. Firmly reiterated India's 'Zero Tolerance' stance on terrorism and called upon all nations to unite in this crucial fight,' Birla stated in a post on X. Birla said that time has now come for the global community to act against institutions who support such acts of terror. 'Met Dr. Maina Talia, Hon'ble Minister for Home Affairs, Climate Change & Environment of Tuvalu in Lisbon today. Discussed our excellent bilateral relations, including India's ongoing development partnership projects in Tuvalu. Tuvalu expressed strong condemnation of terrorist attacks in Jammu & Kashmir. Time has come for the global community to act decisively against all individuals and organisations, both state and non-state, that support and promote such acts of terror,' Birla said. Birla arrived in Lisbon on Monday where he said he looked forward to strengthening India-Portugal ties. 'Arrived in Lisbon, Portugal, en route to Brasilia. Our nations share a deep commitment to values of democracy and the rule of law, benefiting our citizens and promoting a better world. Looking forward to meeting H.E. Jose Pedro Aguiar-Branco, President of the Assembleia da Republica, and strengthening India-Portugal parliamentary ties,' he said. Birla met Tuvalu's Minister of Home, Climate, Culture and other departments, Maina Talia. Many important topics were discussed in detail between the two countries in the bilateral talks. Tuvalu strongly condemned Pahalgam terror attack, says India's action is justified. Tuvalu was among the first countries to condemn Pahalgam terror attack, and Birla gave detailed information about India's Operation Sindoor, an official statement said. Birla reiterated PM Modi's strong message, that trade and relations with terrorist supporting countries will end. He added that the world community needs to stand together on one platform against terrorism. Increasing mutual diplomatic and strategic cooperation was discussed in the bilateral talks. Both countries are also considering setting up an Indian Embassy in Tuvalu, the statement added. Birla also talked about expanding cooperation under FIPIC (Forum for India-Pacific Islands Cooperation) with Tuvalu. Offers education, training and digital support to Tuvalu youth through parliamentary body PRIDE. He said that Tuvalu has become a special partner country for India since the launch of FIPIC. (ANI)

New Delhi [India], June 3 (ANI): Kumar Mangalam Birla, Chairperson of the Aditya Birla Group, on Tuesday expressed optimism regarding more investments in the United States. Speaking with ANI, on the sidelines of the US-India strategic partnership forum, Birla said, 'We have a cumulative investment of about 15 billion dollars here in the US. We are by far the largest investor from India in the US. Ours has been a very good experience. We've been here for about 16 years, and we look to invest further going forward'.Birla also highlighted Novelis' (the wholly owned US unit of Aditya Birla Group company Hindalco Industries) investment in a greenfield low-carbon aluminium recycling and rolling plant in Bay Minette, Alabama, USA. The aim of this project is to support the strong demand for aluminium beverage packaging and automotive talking to ANI, he also mentioned, 'We have an ongoing greenfield project in Alabama, which is an investment of 4 billion dollars. That is the largest greenfield project we have ever invested anywhere in the world.' Following US Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick's speech, Birla said that Lutnick was 'very positive' about the India-US equation and the future of the two Secretary of Commerce, Howard Lutnick, expressed optimism about a potential trade deal between the United States and India, highlighting the strong relationship between the two countries. In a video clip posted on X from the event, Lutnick said, 'I spoke at the U.S.-India Strategic Partnership Forum Annual Leadership Summit tonight. We have a great relationship between our countries. I'm optimistic for a trade deal soon that will benefit both nations.'A few days back, the United States announced the expansion of its security partnerships with India through robust military exercises while emphasising the amplification of its cooperation within the QUAD and other multilateral frameworks.
