Oregon secures Kobe Bryant's 5-star nephew commitment

The post Oregon secures Kobe Bryant's 5-star nephew commitment appeared first on ClutchPoints. Oregon football is adding its own 'Mamba Mentality' to Eugene for the 2026 class. The Ducks landed the five-star nephew of the late NBA legend Kobe Bryant. Advertisement Oregon received a massive verbal commitment from Jett Washington Thursday — one of the nation's most coveted prospects. Washington narrowed his list down to Oregon, Alabama and USC nearly 24 hours before his decision. He became the latest high-profile recruit from national prep powerhouse Bishop Gorman High in Las Vegas. Washington gives the Ducks and head coach Dan Lanning a towering 6-foot-5 defensive back moving forward. He's the older son of Sharia Washington, one of Bryant's older sisters. Many colleges took a liking to Washington's game on the college football recruiting trail. Hence why 33 different universities offered the state of Nevada's top overall prospect. But he hands Lanning and the Big Ten champs a massive recruiting win. How did Oregon win over Kobe Bryant's nephew? Ben Lonergan/The Register-Guard / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images National recruiting analyst for 247Sports Blair Angulo got the chance to chat with Washington after his verbal commitment. How did Lanning and the Ducks win over the safety and linebacker? Turns out Washington cultivated his partnership with Oregon during one of its biggest wins of the 2024 regular season. Advertisement 'I've built a great relationship with them,' Washington told 247Sports. 'I went up there for the Ohio State game last season, and it's a place I could see myself at. My relationship with the coaches has been big.' Washington then articulated the scenery he experienced at Autzen Stadium. 'When you're there, you feel the energy,' Washington said. 'It's everywhere inside that building and just being around coach Dan Lanning, he's a defensive head coach and always involved in the defense, so you know you're going to get development.' Angulo adds Washington will be in a 'versatile role' in Eugene and not limited to safety. Advertisement 'There are talks of him being able to play boundary safety, hold over-the-top responsibilities, but he's also got a chance to be a major contributor in and around the box,' Angulo wrote. Oregon has ignited its June recruiting period. Four-star defensive lineman Cam Pritchett chose the Ducks over Tennessee and Clemson on June 2. Another four-star boosted the class 12 days later in wide receiver Messiah Hampton — New York's top prospect. The Ducks may not be through with landing five-stars. Quarterback Ryder Lyons makes his commitment June 24 with Oregon in the running. Kobe Bryant's 5-Star Nephew Makes Major Career Decision

Kobe Bryant's 5-Star Nephew Makes Major Career Decision originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Jett Washington, Kobe Bryant's nephew and a five-star Class of 2026 safety, has narrowed his choices down to three programs. The USC Trojans are included in that trio. Advertisement 'NEWS: Five-Star Safety Jett Washington is down to Alabama, Oregon, & USC, he tells me for @on3recruits,' On3's Hayes Fawcett wrote Tuesday on X. 'The 6'4 205 S from Las Vegas, NV is ranked as a Top 30 Recruit in the '26 Class (per On3 Industry).' Washington was named MaxPreps' Nevada Player of the Year last season. He totaled 38 tackles, five interceptions, two pass breakups, and a forced fumble for Bishop Gorman, a perennial prep football power in Sin City. He's Nevada's top-ranked recruit in his class, an accolade that makes sense after hearing about his elite abilities. Lincoln Riley has surely taken notice. Southern California Trojans head coach Lincoln Riley.© Kirby Lee-Imagn Images 'A physical specimen with rare size and rare range that could be positioned over the top, in the box or in the slot,' 247Sports director of scouting Andrew Ivins said in a scouting report last month. 'Should be viewed as a potential defensive chameleon that can prevent touchdowns in a single or two-high look while also matching-up with large slot and in-line weapons when needed. Advertisement 'Looks like the next can't-miss talent to come out of Bishop Gorman with his game tape and athletic markers. Sunday upside in an era where position lines continue to blur on defense.' 247Sports' composite rankings list Washington as the No. 4 safety in his class, behind Bralan Womack, Jireh Edwards, and Blaine Bradford. Bradford is an Ohio State pledge. Hawaii-born 2026 QB Eugenio commits to ‘Bows football

With just 11 weeks remaining until the start of the 2025 University of Hawai'i football season, the 2026 recruiting class is beginning to take shape. Leading the early wave of commits is Hawai'i-born quarterback Maika Eugenio, who announced his pledge to the Rainbow Warriors over the weekend following an official visit to Mānoa. Eugenio, a standout at national prep powerhouse Bishop Gorman High School in Las Vegas, is part of a growing pipeline from Gorman to UH. Among those paving the way is former Gorman quarterbacks coach Chad Kapanui, a Roosevelt graduate and former Warrior who now serves on Hawai'i's staff. 'For me, it feels great to be going back home with my family,' Eugenio said. 'I used to live in Hawai'i for about 12 years, and I went to Kamehameha since kindergarten. Just being able to come back, maybe go to college with some of my friends, and play in front of my family, it's a great opportunity and I'm excited.' Eugenio, said the relationships he's built with key members of the UH program, particularly Kapanui and assistant coach Chris Brown, played a pivotal role in his decision. 'Both Coach Kapanui and Coach Brown were key, key roles in my decision,' Eugenio said. 'The relationship I built with Coach Kapanui at Gorman was big, and being able to go back home and continue that relationship was definitely strong. My dad actually used to coach him when he was at Roosevelt, my dad (Matt) was the defensive coordinator at the time. So it's just kind of great that he's coaching me now. It's crazy.' Eugenio added that the presence of fellow Bishop Gorman alumni on the current UH roster helped solidify his choice. 'Coach Brown and all the other Gorman players played a big part too,' he said. 'Just being able to be back with them and further my relationship with them is definitely big.' Eugenio wasn't the only commitment UH landed over the weekend. Gorman teammate Isaiah Nickels, a versatile two-way skill player, and Saint Louis defensive back Jahren Altura also announced their commitments to the Rainbow Warriors. The trio gives head coach Timmy Chang and his staff an early boost as they look to build momentum heading into the 2025 season. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
