Oregon lands top prep safety, nephew of Kobe Bryant
June 20 - Oregon landed a commitment from five-star safety Jett Washington, a nephew of the late NBA great Kobe Bryant.
Washington ranks as the No. 2 safety and No. 18 overall player in the 2026 recruiting class by 247 Sports.
The 6-foot-5, 210-pound prospect posted five interceptions and 38 tackles as a junior at Las Vegas powerhouse Bishop Gorman in 2024.
Washington chose coach Dan Lanning and the Ducks after also paying visits to Southern California and Alabama.
"I loved the way they treated me out there," Washington told ESPN. "My relationship with them has been going the right way ever since I started talking to them."
Like his famous uncle, Washington also plays basketball and helped Bishop Gorman win the Nevada Class 5A state title this season.

Cubs legend Sammy Sosa returns to Wrigley Field after 20-plus year hiatus
Legendary Cubs slugger Sammy Sosa returned to Wrigley Field for the first time in more than 20 years on Friday before Chicago's afternoon game with the Seattle Mariners. Sosa, who is set to be inducted into the Cubs' team Hall of Fame this year, arrived at the iconic North Side ballpark in a black SUV. He was greeted by owner Tom Ricketts, who embraced him in a hug as he exited the vehicle. Sosa became the face of the Cubs franchise where he played 13 seasons after coming in a trade from the crosstown White Sox in March 1992. A seven-time All-Star, Sosa hit 545 homers in 1,811 games with the Cubs and hit a franchise-record 66 in 1998 when he was named the NL's MVP. Sammy's home. Sosa, now 56, played his final game with the Cubs at Wrigley on 2 October 2004, when he homered and had two hits in an 8-6 loss to Atlanta. During his years with the Cubs, Sosa appeared to bulk up drastically and was a headliner in a generation of baseball's biggest names linked to performance-enhancing drugs. The Cubs traded him to Baltimore with cash in February 2005 for three players. Sosa appeared to acknowledge using performance-enhancing drugs in December when he released a statement saying he was sorry for mistakes, without specifying them. 'There were times I did whatever I could to recover from injuries in an effort to keep my strength up to perform over 162 games,' he said in the statement. 'I never broke any laws. But in hindsight, I made mistakes and I apologize.' On Friday morning, Sosa posed for photos with rising Cubs star Pete Crow-Armstrong outside the team's clubhouse and a video showed Sosa embracing manager Craig Counsell in his office before the game. The Cubs remained mum, however, on any ceremony or event before or during Friday's game. In Thursday's 8-7 loss to Milwaukee, Crow-Armstrong went deep to set a new team record for reaching 20 homers and 20-plus stolen stolen bases the fastest, doing it in 73 games. Sosa had the old mark of 96, set in 1994.

New Club World Cup rule introduced for first time in Fifa history in major boost to Lionel Messi
LIONEL MESSI'S bid for shock Club World Cup glory has been boosted by a rule change. Messi 's Inter Miami are joint top of Group A after his majestic winner against Porto. And for the first time in the competition's history, Fifa are adopting Uefa-style rules to sort out who goes through - if teams end up tied. The leading two sides in each of the eight four-team groups qualify for the last 16. A problem comes if two clubs are level on points for a qualifying place. Fifa used to decide it on goal difference. But this summer football's international chiefs have switched to head-to-head records. Palmeiras on four points from two matches. Portuguese giants Porto and Saudi team Al Ahly have just a point apiece. Club World Cup 2025 Guide SOME of the world's biggest clubs are heading Stateside for a MAMMOTH Club World Cup. Fifa will hope the full range of tiebreakers won't be needed to split teams if they are level on points. That's because the eighth and final option is the dreaded drawing of lots. After points and head-to-head record, goal difference between the teams in question is the third criteria. Goals scored between the two sides is next - followed by group goal difference and then group goals scored. Down at number seven is disciplinary points from yellow and red cards. A booking for a player of staff member is minus one point, two yellows for the same person is minus three, and a straight red card minus four. Eight-time Ballon d'Or winner Messi will of course aim to produce more magic to kill off the need for such tiebreakers. Fans raved he was "still the GOAT" and "from another planet" after his curling free-kick sunk Porto 2-1 on Thursday night, watched by 31,783 at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. 2
