"The HD video provides a crisp, wide view of my doorstep, allowing me to clearly see who's there, day or night. The two-way audio is a standout feature, enabling clear communication with visitors whether I'm home or out. I've been particularly impressed with its reliability and how well it integrates with the Blink app. For anyone wanting an effective and affordable way to keep an eye on their property, the Blink Video Doorbell is an excellent choice."

The new Blink Video Doorbell is one of the simplest and most affordable models around

Blink has just announced the second-generation Blink Video Doorbell (a follow-up to one of the best video doorbells around) and it's sticking to what the brand does best: affordable, easy-to-use home security. It's priced under US$60 / £50, making it potentially one of the most budget-friendly ways to keep an eye on your front door without faffing around with wires or complicated installs. The new doorbell runs on three AA lithium batteries and uses the Blink Sync Module Core, giving you up to two years of battery life. That means once it's up and running, you can pretty much forget about it. Its upgraded 150° head-to-toe field of view gives you a clear 1:1 perspective – so you can see everything from a guest's face to the parcel they just dropped off. Night vision is built in, too, so you're not left squinting at blurry blobs after dark. New to this version is person detection, which uses on-device computer vision to spot actual humans and filter out things like passing pets or rustling branches. You'll need a Blink subscription for that feature, but for those who want smarter alerts, it's a handy upgrade. You can pair the doorbell with Alexa devices for real-time alerts and two-way talk, and it comes in both black and white finishes. It'll start shipping mid-August and is available to pre-order now for just $59.99 in the US and £49.99 in the UK. If you're looking to build out a bigger home security setup, Blink has a full range of affordable gear. That includes the Blink Outdoor 4 for garden and driveway coverage, the Blink Mini 2 for plug-in monitoring inside or out, and the Blink Mini Pan-Tilt if you want 360-degree room views. All of them are very affordable and all work seamlessly with the Blink app. It's not flashy, but the new Blink Video Doorbell nails the basics – and at this price, that's exactly what a lot of people want. The discounted bundle also includes the Blink Mini 2, a second-generation plug-in smart security camera that "helps you stay connected to what's happening in your home, right from your smartphone." Alternatively, B&Q stocks the Yale Doorbell White Hybrid Video doorbell for £98, while Argos has the TP-Link Tapo D210 2K Video Doorbell Battery (chime included) for £44.99. Ring also offers the Battery Video Doorbell for £99.99. The Blink bundle has an overall rating of 4 stars online, with many shoppers praising the easy set-up and camera quality. One person said: "Works extremely well. This is a great option as a first door bell camera. You can set it to lower motion activity. Talk to visitors, when your not home. "Great for ignoring undesirable people at the door. Older people may need help, setting it up. Connects to Wi-Fi easily. It stores captures without SD card but best to get 1. Clear vision at night. Well worth the money." A second wrote: "Easy to set up. Good price compared to others works as it should easy to set up very happy with it." A third added: "Excellent quality video with Blink Doorbell Camera - 5 stars. I recently installed the Blink Doorbell Camera, and I am thrilled with its outstanding video quality and overall performance. "This device has become an invaluable addition to my home security system, providing a reliable and crystal-clear view of any activity at my front door." However, some shoppers found issues with the Blink Doorbell Camera bundle. One person said: "Bought a few of these on good recommendations but soon fell out of love with them. Very easy to set up but just would not respond fast enough. "I was getting a knock on the door which I answered then a notification on my phone from Blink 5 - 10 minutes afterwards. A more in depth search found this a common problem and after getting fed up having to reset the doorbell switched to Eufy and instant response to a caller now." A second wrote: "I've only had this six months and pictures blured and camera running to fast, but they don't offer replacement just product support which is rubbish." Despite this, many continued to praise the product. One shopper said: "Very happy with this product, an addition to my outdoor camera system." Another added: " Easy installation. Just installed it. This was quite easy to set up and install. I also bought an angle bracket to ensure it covers my path which is at an angle. Connected it to Alexa also quite easy. Nice picture."
