Mumbai rain: School children get stranded in a flood-like situation, Zomato agent delivers food amid waterlogging
Another day of torrential rain brought Mumbai to a halt as many parts of the city dealt with severe waterlogging. According to data shared by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the suburban Santacruz station received over 99 mm of rainfall, while the Colaba coastal observatory recorded 38 mm of rainfall between Sunday and Monday morning. As the Met Department issued an Orange alert for Mumbai till August 19, videos of the city coping with the heavy rain flooded the Internet. One of the videos shows rescuers helping school children out of their bus, which got stranded amid the flood-like situation near Kings Circle, Gandhi Market. The viral clip shows Mumbai policemen navigating through knee-deep water while carrying the kids to safety. Sharing the video, X handle @mumbaimatterz wrote, 'School Kids stranded inside School buses nr KingsCircle, Gandhi Market, being rescued by @MumbaiPolice personnel & taken to safety to Matunga Police Station.' Another user wrote, '@mybmc sad to know that our bmc cannot decide before hand whether to declare a red alert or not. If anything happens to school kids it will be @mybmc fault.' Another photo captures a Zomato delivery agent standing amid heavy rain, walking through a waterlogged area. Hailing the delivery guy, a user wrote, 'Heavy rains in Mumbai, waterlogging everywhere. We can see Zomato delivery guy walking through it all to deliver food. The dedication is incredible because of people like him, someone won't sleep hungry tonight. Hats off to our delivery heroes! @zomato.' See here: Heavy rains in Mumbai, waterlogging everywhere. We can see Zomato delivery guy walking through it all to deliver food. Flashfloods in many parts of Mumbai after consistent heavy rains 🌊⚠️ #MumbaiRains — Mumbai Rains (@rushikesh_agre_) August 18, 2025 'The heavy rainfall is being caused due to a low-pressure system that has developed over the Bay of Bengal, leading to the formation of an east-west trough extending to the Arabian Sea and severe rainfall in the Konkan coast of Maharashtra. The rainfall will continue till the middle of next week as a result of which the alerts have been extended for Mumbai,' an IMD official told The Indian Express.
