SKIT's revival opens new doors for tech students in Srikalahasti
Srikalahasti: The long-awaited revival of the Srikalahasteeswara Institute of Technology (SKIT) has finally been completed, fulfilling the election promise made by Srikalahasti MLA Bojjala Sudhir Reddy. His dedicated efforts led to SKIT's merger with Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU) Anantapur, and the stage is now set for the admissions process from this academic year itself. SKIT, established in 1997 by the Srikalahasteeswara Swamy Vari Devasthanam with support from former minister Bojjala Gopalakrishna Reddy, was one of the popular choices for engineering aspirants. However, due to declining admissions and financial difficulties subsequently, the Endowments Department suspended new enrollments in 2020, leading to the institution's closure. Prior to that, Gopalakrishna Reddy had proposed a merger with JNTU, which was approved by the State Cabinet in 2018. However, the plan stalled after a change in the State government. When the NDA government came to power, MLA Sudhir Reddy revived the proposal with support from Minister for Human Resources Development Nara Lokesh, and his efforts have now borne fruit. As a result, official orders have been issued for SKIT's merger with JNTU Anantapur, and the college will now participate in the second phase of the ongoing EAMCET counselling. Beginning this academic year, B Tech admissions will be available in Computer Science Engineering (CSE), Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE), Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE), Computer Science Engineering in Data Science (CSD), and CSE with Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (CSM). Each course will offer 66 seats under the convenor quota, with a course fee of Rs 70,000. The Institute set up in 55 acres, has crores of properties under its procession besides valuable infrastructure in labs and library. SKIT was the only technical college under the Endowments Department's jurisdiction in the State, and with the merger, its operations will be fully managed by JNTU Anantapur, bringing new hope and confidence to prospective students.

TUDA allocates Rs 5 cr for drainage upgrades in Srikalahasti
Srikalahasti: Towardsenhancing civic infrastructure and directly engaging with the public, the Tirupati Urban Development Authority (TUDA) launched its community-centric initiative, 'A Day with TUDA Chairman', in Srikalahasti on Friday. TUDA Chairman C Divakar Reddy, accompanied by Srikalahasti MLA Bojjala Sudhir Reddy and a team of municipal officials, toured key localities to review urban challenges and fast-track pending civic works. A highlight of the outreach was the Chairman's announcement of Rs 5 crore earmarked for the comprehensive development of the town's drainage system. 'Drainage and sanitation are among the most pressing concerns here. This fund will be the first step in addressing them on priority,' Divakar Reddy said, assuring residents that TUDA would remain actively involved in infrastructure and beautification projects across the constituency. The inspection began at the AP Seeds Colony, where officials identified an underutilised park space for revitalisation. Plans were also floated to set up a new food court under the brand 'Swarnamukhi Eats,' aimed at boosting public convenience and local entrepreneurship. In an unusual but symbolic gesture of on-ground commitment, the Chairman and the MLA navigated the town on motorcycles, covering several areas plagued by drainage blockages and water scarcity. The team also paid a visit to the Srikalahasti Area Hospital. Infrastructure gaps at the facility were noted, with proposals discussed to upgrade amenities and strengthen the hospital's operational capacity. MLA Sudhir Reddy, addressing the media during the tour, highlighted a blended approach to development. 'We will combine TUDA resources and MLA development funds to ensure Srikalahasti gets a facelift from cleanliness to modern civic facilities,' he said. He also issued a stern warning on the use of plastic covers in the town, stating that penalties would be imposed for violations as part of the anti-plastic drive. Residents, while appreciative of the initiative, urged the authorities to ensure follow-through on promises made during such visits. The outreach programme is expected to continue across other parts of the Tirupati district in the coming weeks, signalling a more grassroots-driven approach to urban governance. TUDA secretary Dr Sreekanth Babu, SE Krishna Reddy, CPO Devi Kumari, Horticulturist Malathi, Land Acquisition officer Sujana and others participated.

All eyes on Srikalahasti Devasthanam chairman post
Tirupati: The appointment of the chairman for the Srikalahasti Devasthanam Trust Board, which has been lying vacant since March 2024, has emerged as a flashpoint of political competition within the ruling NDA alliance, as key leaders intensify efforts to secure control over the influential temple body. Despite assuming office in June 2024, the NDA coalition has left the temple post unfilled for over a year, even as several nominated positions across the state were swiftly occupied. With mounting pressure from alliance partners and local party units, sources say the government is now poised to finalise the appointment, possibly in the next couple of days. TDP leader Rangineni Chenchaiah Naidu of Yerpedu mandal has emerged as the frontrunner, backed firmly by Srikalahasti MLA Bojjala Sudhir Reddy. A former Market Committee chairman and longstanding TDP loyalist, Chenchaiah is also closely associated with the Bojjala political family. During the YSRCP government, he reportedly faced political harassment, including multiple police cases. While the BJP and Jana Sena initially sought to stake a claim, their prospects appear to have waned. BJP state secretary Kola Anand, who once held the same post under the Congress government led by Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, is said to be lobbying for the position either for himself or a close relative. However, the BJP's case reportedly lacks momentum in the current equation. Jana Sena's bid effectively collapsed following the arrest of former constituency in-charge K Vinutha and her husband in a murder case. Although Vinutha had proposed a nominee from her family earlier, her expulsion from the party closed all avenues in this regard. Intra-party competition within TDP has also surfaced. Senior leaders Reddyvari Gurava Reddy and Dasharadhachari have directly conveyed their interest to the party high command. Former MLA S C V Naidu has reportedly been lobbying for the candidature of S Praveen, son of ex-legislator Satravada Muniramaiah. Amid competing claims, the NDA leadership is believed to have conducted an IVRS-based public and cadre opinion survey in the Srikalahasti constituency to assess local sentiment and narrow down options. The feedback from this exercise is expected to be a key factor in the final decision and it is widely speculated that the party high command will tilt in favour of MLA's recommendation paving the way for Chenchaiah Naidu. Obviously, it was under his watch, the temple is said to have witnessed greater administrative order after a period of instability in recent years. The political weight of the post is underscored by the significance of the temple itself. As one of the six Category-C temples in the State, Srikalahasti sees a daily footfall of thousands and generates over Rs 1 crore in daily revenues. The chairman wields considerable influence over appointments, contracts, and temple development works, making the role a powerful position in both religious and political terms.
