Yes, you read that right, despite doing close to 200 films, Jeetendra once refused to work with an actress from the B-grade industry. The actress in question is none other than Bollywood's famous actress Mumtaz, who was one of the most popular actresses of her time. Although this journey was not easy, there was a time when she worked as a background dancer and did multiple supporting roles. But after some time, she received multiple offers for lead roles. Mumtaz recently revealed in an interview that Jeetendra did not want to work with her. In 1967, filmmaker V. Shantaram starred Mumtaz as the lead actress in his film 'Boond Jo Ban Gayee Moti', and Jeetendra was paired with her. V. Shantaram clearly said to Jeetendra that 'The heroine will remain here; if you don't want to do this film, then you can leave.' Shantaram had full faith in Mumtaz's art, acting, and beauty. He had known her since childhood. Recalling this incident, Mumtaz said, 'Sorry, Jeetu, but this is true.' She further said that in those times, no big hero was ready to work with me. In such a situation, Dilip Kumar saw her work and agreed to work with Mumtaz in the movie 'Ram Aur Shyam'. Mumtaz further said that if Dilip Kumar ji had not done this, she would probably never have become an actress. After Boond Jo Ban Gayee Moti, Jeetendra and Mumtaz worked together in many films such as Jigri (1969), Maa Aur Mamta, Khilona (1970), Ek Nari Ek Brahmachari, Chahat Aur Kathputli (1971), Roop Tera Mastana (1972), and Nagin (1976).

Initially, she worked as a background dancer and then acted in supporting roles for few years. After she bagged her first lead role in Faulad (1963), the actress catapulted to fame and starred in several hit films including Khilona, Loafer, Aap Ki Kasam and more. The veteran actress recently shared an anecdote about her early career during an interview. Mumtaz revealed that she was cast as the lead actress opposite Jeetendra in the 1967 film Boond Jo Ban Gayee Moti. However, Jeetendra wasn't happy with director V Shantaram's decision to cast her the film. While speaking to Radio Nasha Offical, the actress recalled how Shantaram went against Jeetendra's decision, and asked him to leave the film if he doesn't want to work with her. Mumtaz recalled, 'He said, 'Why are you taking Mumtaz?' Shantaram said, 'I think she has got all the qualities of becoming a heroine. She is beautiful, she dances well, she is a good actress and I like her'. Jeetu was like 'No, no. Can't we cast someone else?' Shantaram told him, 'She will be the heroine. If you don't want to do it, then you can leave the film.' Mumtaz revealed that initially Shantaram's daughter Rajshree was hired to do the film, but she quit the project as she was planning to get married. However, ignoring all his objections, Shantaram went ahead and cast Mumtaz as the lead actress. While looking into the camera, Mumtaz apologised to Jeetendra for exposing this, 'I am sorry Jeetu that I am saying that, but that's what's true.' She said. In the same conversation, Mumtaz appreciated Dilip Kumar and Mehmood for guiding her in the early days of her career. She shared that no superstar was ready to work with her back then but Dilip Kumar trusted her and cast her in Ram Aur Sham. She said, 'Dilip Kumar looked at the reel and said, 'She is beautiful and she dances well. I will do the film with her.' I'm very thankful to him. When he agreed to do the film with me that's why I could become an actor. If he would have said 'no', I couldn't have become an actor.' Mumtaz added, 'When he agreed to do the film with me, nobody else refused. Everybody worked with me after that.'

Veteran actor Mumtaz has revealed that Jeetendra didn't want her to be a part of their 1967 film Boond Jo Ban Gayee Moti. Speaking with Radio Nasha recently, Mumtaz revealed that Jeetendra wanted the film's director, V Shantaram, to cast someone else opposite him. However, as per Mumtaz, Shantaram was adamant on casting her and asked Jeetendra to exit the film if it bothered him. However, she decided not to be part of the film as she was getting married. Following this, Shantaram decided to cast Mumtaz. Talking about Jeetendra's reaction to her being part of the film, Mumtaz said, 'I am sorry, Jeetu, but that's what you said. He said (to Shantaram), 'You said you would take Rajshree, why are you taking Mumtaz?'" The actor spoke about Shantaram's reaction to Jeetendra's question. She said, 'Shantaram said, 'I think she has got all the qualities of becoming a heroine. She is beautiful, she dances well, she is a good actress and I like her'. He knew her from my childhood, he knew my mother. Jeetu was like 'No, no. Why did Rajshree leave? Can't we cast someone else?' Shantaram told him, 'Heroine toh yahi rahegi. Aapko nahi karna hai toh aap jaasakte hai (She will be the heroine. If you don't want to do it, you can leave the film).' Mumtaz also apologised to Jeetendra but added "sorry Jeetu that I am saying that, but that's what's true'. Boond Jo Ban Gayee Moti is a drama film, produced and directed by V Shantaram under the Rajkamal Kalamandir banner. Apart from Jeetendra and Mumtaz, the film also starred Akashdeep and Vaishali. In a recent chat, Mumtaz spoke about said that at one point, Shantaram had to tell Jeetendra that he should drop out of the film if he wasn't willing to work with Mumtaz. In a chat with Radio Nasha Official, Mumtaz said that Shantaram's daughter Rajshree was supposed to do the film, but she left it because she was planning to get married. In her place, Shantaram decided to cast Mumtaz as he felt that she was the right choice. Mumtaz recalled, 'I am sorry Jeetu but that's what you said. He said, 'Why are you taking Mumtaz?'
