This Dilip Kumar heroine whom Jeetendra refused to work with, he asked the director to cast someone else, the actress then..., her name is...
Mumtaz began her acting career at a very young age. Initially, she worked as a background dancer and then acted in supporting roles for few years. After she bagged her first lead role in Faulad (1963), the actress catapulted to fame and starred in several hit films including Khilona, Loafer, Aap Ki Kasam and more. The veteran actress recently shared an anecdote about her early career during an interview.
Mumtaz revealed that she was cast as the lead actress opposite Jeetendra in the 1967 film Boond Jo Ban Gayee Moti. However, Jeetendra wasn't happy with director V Shantaram's decision to cast her the film. While speaking to Radio Nasha Offical, the actress recalled how Shantaram went against Jeetendra's decision, and asked him to leave the film if he doesn't want to work with her.
Mumtaz recalled, 'He said, 'Why are you taking Mumtaz?' Shantaram said, 'I think she has got all the qualities of becoming a heroine. She is beautiful, she dances well, she is a good actress and I like her'. Jeetu was like 'No, no. Can't we cast someone else?' Shantaram told him, 'She will be the heroine. If you don't want to do it, then you can leave the film.'
Mumtaz revealed that initially Shantaram's daughter Rajshree was hired to do the film, but she quit the project as she was planning to get married. However, ignoring all his objections, Shantaram went ahead and cast Mumtaz as the lead actress. While looking into the camera, Mumtaz apologised to Jeetendra for exposing this, 'I am sorry Jeetu that I am saying that, but that's what's true.' She said.
In the same conversation, Mumtaz appreciated Dilip Kumar and Mehmood for guiding her in the early days of her career. She shared that no superstar was ready to work with her back then but Dilip Kumar trusted her and cast her in Ram Aur Sham.
She said, 'Dilip Kumar looked at the reel and said, 'She is beautiful and she dances well. I will do the film with her.' I'm very thankful to him. When he agreed to do the film with me that's why I could become an actor. If he would have said 'no', I couldn't have become an actor.' Mumtaz added, 'When he agreed to do the film with me, nobody else refused. Everybody worked with me after that.'

When Dara Singh blamed Bollywood for snatching Mumtaz from him, after the duo broke up as she became a star
Dara Singh stepped into Bollywood with his debut film 'Sangdil' in 1952 and went on to showcase his versatility in movies like 'Main Maa Punjab Dee', 'Guru Gobind Singh', 'Qahar', 'Zulmi', 'Hudd Kar Di', 'Kal Ho Naa Ho' and many others. Known primarily as a wrestler, Dara was also gentle at heart, and at one point, he fell for actress Mumtaz . However, the romance and their relationship didn't last long, here's why. Their paths crossed when the makers of Dara's second film, 'Faulad', were looking for a leading lady. Although his debut had fared well, none of the top actresses agreed to star opposite him. At the time, Mumtaz was taking on small roles in films and accepted the offer. 'Faulad' hit the theatres in 1963, marking the first on-screen pairing of Dara and Mumtaz. During its making, whispers about their off-screen closeness began circulating. The two often spent time together on set, quickly becoming a favourite topic of gossip columns. Back then, Mumtaz had not yet made a name for herself and was largely known for minor appearances. But after 'Faulad' released, her popularity surged, and she began landing a slew of film offers. Her packed schedule left little time for Dara, and the growing distance eventually led to their separation. The split deeply affected Dara, who later remarked, 'Bollywood snatched Mumtaz from me.' Dara Singh had first gotten married just when he was 14. It was an arranged one to Bachno Kaur in 1937. A decade later, they parted ways, and later in 1961, he married Surjit Kaur. Together, they had three sons and three daughters. On the other hand, after Mumtaz became a star, she was in a relationship with Shammi Kapoor but it was still the beginning of her career. The duo had met on the sets of 'Brahmachari'. The actress has confessed in several interviews that Shammi had proposed to her but she rejected his proposal because the women in the Kapoor family were not allowed to act that time. She wouldn't be allowed to work after marriage and hence she chose her career over marrying him. The actress later got married to businessman Mayur Madhvani.

This actor once challenged stardom of Rajesh Khanna, Dharmendra, Amitabh Bachchan with this blockbuster, which earned Rs 9 crore, movie was…, he is…
There was a time in the 1980s when the biggest names in Bollywood ruled the box office—icons whose films were almost guaranteed to be blockbusters. Among them was one actor, often underestimated, who suddenly rose to prominence with a film that surprised everyone. With its dramatic flair and emotional punch, this movie didn't just win over audiences—it also overshadowed films by the reigning superstars of that era. Who was this actor? That actor was Jeetendra, and the film was Tohfa (1984). Featuring a mix of drama, sacrifice, and family emotions, this film became a runaway hit and turned into a cultural phenomenon. Directed by K. Raghavendra Rao, the film starred Jeetendra alongside Sridevi and Jaya Prada, forming a powerful trio that brought intensity and depth to the story. Jeetendra, known for his unique dance style and expressive acting, delivered a performance that clicked with both the masses and critics. What was the storyline? The storyline of Tohfa revolved around two sisters, played by Sridevi and Jaya Prada, who fall in love with the same man—Jeetendra's character. The emotional conflict that follows, as one sister sacrifices her love for the happiness of the other, forms the heart of the story. It was this mix of love, pain, and sacrifice that resonated deeply with the audience. The film's dialogues and tear-jerking moments, paired with melodious songs like 'Tohfa Tera' and 'Ek Ankh Marun To,' added to its appeal. How did Jeetendra challenge other stalwarts of cinema? Released during a period when Rajesh Khanna, Dharmendra, and Amitabh Bachchan were delivering major films, Tohfa surprisingly outperformed many of their releases at the box office. It was a rare moment when Jeetendra, often seen in a different league, managed to eclipse the impact of Bollywood's biggest names. The film collected around Rs 9 crore, an impressive feat for its modest Rs 2 crore budget. The supporting cast of Tohfa, played a crucial role in enhancing the emotional and dramatic appeal of the film. Alongside lead stars, the film featured talented actors like Shakti Kapoor, who brought a mix of menace and humor in his role as Lalitha's brother. Late Kader Khan added his signature comic flair, making key scenes more engaging, while Asrani contributed light-hearted moments with his impeccable timing.
