This Dilip Kumar heroine whom Jeetendra refused to work with, he asked the director to cast someone else, the actress then..., her name is... Mumtaz began her acting career at a very young age. Initially, she worked as a background dancer and then acted in supporting roles for few years. After she bagged her first lead role in Faulad (1963), the actress catapulted to fame and starred in several hit films including Khilona, Loafer, Aap Ki Kasam and more. The veteran actress recently shared an anecdote about her early career during an interview. Mumtaz revealed that she was cast as the lead actress opposite Jeetendra in the 1967 film Boond Jo Ban Gayee Moti. However, Jeetendra wasn't happy with director V Shantaram's decision to cast her the film. While speaking to Radio Nasha Offical, the actress recalled how Shantaram went against Jeetendra's decision, and asked him to leave the film if he doesn't want to work with her. Mumtaz recalled, 'He said, 'Why are you taking Mumtaz?' Shantaram said, 'I think she has got all the qualities of becoming a heroine. She is beautiful, she dances well, she is a good actress and I like her'. Jeetu was like 'No, no. Can't we cast someone else?' Shantaram told him, 'She will be the heroine. If you don't want to do it, then you can leave the film.' Mumtaz revealed that initially Shantaram's daughter Rajshree was hired to do the film, but she quit the project as she was planning to get married. However, ignoring all his objections, Shantaram went ahead and cast Mumtaz as the lead actress. While looking into the camera, Mumtaz apologised to Jeetendra for exposing this, 'I am sorry Jeetu that I am saying that, but that's what's true.' She said. In the same conversation, Mumtaz appreciated Dilip Kumar and Mehmood for guiding her in the early days of her career. She shared that no superstar was ready to work with her back then but Dilip Kumar trusted her and cast her in Ram Aur Sham. She said, 'Dilip Kumar looked at the reel and said, 'She is beautiful and she dances well. I will do the film with her.' I'm very thankful to him. When he agreed to do the film with me that's why I could become an actor. If he would have said 'no', I couldn't have become an actor.' Mumtaz added, 'When he agreed to do the film with me, nobody else refused. Everybody worked with me after that.'
