This Dilip Kumar heroine whom Jeetendra refused to work with, he asked the director to cast someone else, the actress then..., her name is... Mumtaz began her acting career at a very young age. Initially, she worked as a background dancer and then acted in supporting roles for few years. After she bagged her first lead role in Faulad (1963), the actress catapulted to fame and starred in several hit films including Khilona, Loafer, Aap Ki Kasam and more. The veteran actress recently shared an anecdote about her early career during an interview. Mumtaz revealed that she was cast as the lead actress opposite Jeetendra in the 1967 film Boond Jo Ban Gayee Moti. However, Jeetendra wasn't happy with director V Shantaram's decision to cast her the film. While speaking to Radio Nasha Offical, the actress recalled how Shantaram went against Jeetendra's decision, and asked him to leave the film if he doesn't want to work with her. Mumtaz recalled, 'He said, 'Why are you taking Mumtaz?' Shantaram said, 'I think she has got all the qualities of becoming a heroine. She is beautiful, she dances well, she is a good actress and I like her'. Jeetu was like 'No, no. Can't we cast someone else?' Shantaram told him, 'She will be the heroine. If you don't want to do it, then you can leave the film.' Mumtaz revealed that initially Shantaram's daughter Rajshree was hired to do the film, but she quit the project as she was planning to get married. However, ignoring all his objections, Shantaram went ahead and cast Mumtaz as the lead actress. While looking into the camera, Mumtaz apologised to Jeetendra for exposing this, 'I am sorry Jeetu that I am saying that, but that's what's true.' She said. In the same conversation, Mumtaz appreciated Dilip Kumar and Mehmood for guiding her in the early days of her career. She shared that no superstar was ready to work with her back then but Dilip Kumar trusted her and cast her in Ram Aur Sham. She said, 'Dilip Kumar looked at the reel and said, 'She is beautiful and she dances well. I will do the film with her.' I'm very thankful to him. When he agreed to do the film with me that's why I could become an actor. If he would have said 'no', I couldn't have become an actor.' Mumtaz added, 'When he agreed to do the film with me, nobody else refused. Everybody worked with me after that.'

Mumtaz breaks down recalling her final meeting with Shammi Kapoor: ‘Agle janam mein milenge'
Actor Mumtaz and Shammi Kapoor worked together in the film Brahmachari. The two made headlines at the time due to their rumoured relationship. Now, in an interview with Radio Nasha, Mumtaz has revealed that Shammi once proposed to her and opened up about their final meeting before his death. (Also Read: Mumtaz will make a Bollywood comeback under one condition: 'Buddhi ka role to karne wali nahi hoon') Talking about how their romance blossomed, Mumtaz revealed that Shammi had proposed to her. However, as his father was strict, he asked her to quit films—something she wasn't ready to do as she wanted to continue working. Mumtaz broke down in tears while recalling her last meeting with Shammi Kapoor. She said, 'He was very ill. It was his last birthday. I was invited by his wife. She said, 'It's his wish that you attend the party.' I was shopping in Bandra at the time and I said I would definitely come. I went there with Asha Patel. He was sitting on a chair, and he was still drinking. From afar, I asked him, 'Why are you still drinking when you're not well?' And that's when I realised he wouldn't live for long. Then I said, 'Okay, enjoy yourself.' He wanted to be happy.' She added, 'I didn't say much to him. I sat beside him for a while and told him to take care of himself. It was very sad to see him dying. Agar kehte hain agle janam mein milte hain toh milenge (If it's said people meet in another life, then perhaps we will). If it's true, I don't know. But he was a wonderful person. He was a little fussy, but such a handsome man. If he had wanted, he could have had many women, but he was very choosy. I think he was incredibly good looking.' Shammi Kapoor was admitted to Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai on 7 August 2011, suffering from chronic kidney failure. He was placed on a ventilator for several days, but sadly passed away on 14 August 2011, at the age of 79. Mumtaz made her acting debut at the age of 11 with the film Lajwanti in 1958. She went on to act in films like Faulad (1963) and Daku Mangal Singh, but these roles led to her being typecast in the industry as a 'stunt heroine', stalling her early career. Despite the setbacks, she rose to become one of the leading actresses in Hindi cinema with hits such as Bandhan, Aadmi Aur Insaan, Sachaa Jhutha, Khilona, and Hare Rama Hare Krishna, among others.

In a candid chat with Radio Nasha, the actor looked back on his early struggles, shelved projects, and how one critic mocked his looks and talent. Suniel shared that before Balwaan, two of his initial projects, Faulad and Aarzoo, were shelved due to production issues. Operation Sindoor Amid flare-up hours after thaw, officials say things will settle down with time Ceasefire on, but pressure stays: Key decisions by India against Pak that still stand 'Will work with India & Pakistan to seek solution on Kashmir': Trump 'I had finished almost 60–65 days of shooting for Aarzoo, and the film was nearly complete. But a fallout between the director and producer shelved it,' he recalled. Recalling the criticism, Suniel said, 'When Balwaan got released, it was a blockbuster. However, ek bahut bade critic ne likha ki yeh bahut kharab actor hai—doesn't know acting, doesn't know how to walk, his body is stiff. Isko apni dukaan mein idli-vada bechna chahiye.' Sooraj Pancholi, Akanksha & Suniel Shetty Shine Bright For 'Kesari Veer' The remark might have been intended as an insult, but Suniel took it in stride. 'He thought he was mocking me, but that idli-vada business was my backbone. It educated my sisters and me—probably far better than those who didn't have that kind of upbringing,' he shared. 'I used to clean tables, serve at the counter, and stand in the kitchen. So what? I was Suniel Shetty then, and I'm Suniel Shetty now.' Directed by Deepak Anand and produced by Raju Mavani, Balwaan gave Suniel a powerful debut, with a supporting cast that included Divya Bharti, Tinu Anand , and Danny Denzongpa. Suniel Shetty recalls being called ‘bad actor' after debut film Balwaan's success: ‘Critic told me to sell idli-vada'
Bollywood actor Suniel Shetty made his debut in the 1992 film Balwaan alongside Divya Bharti, and the film proved a box-office success. However, in a recent interview with Radio Nasha, Suniel recalled how a critic slammed his looks and acting, and suggested he should sell idlis and vadas at his restaurant. (Also Read: 'Agli chutti Kashmir mein hi hogi': Defiant Suniel Shetty asks people to be fearless after Pahalgam terror attack) Suniel revealed that his very first two projects, Faulad and Aarzoo, never saw the light of day. He explained that, coming from a non-film background, when a second Faulad was announced, director David Dhawan grew concerned that, as a newcomer, Suniel's career might suffer, so the project was quietly dropped. Suniel had already completed some 60–65 days of shooting on Aarzoo—the film was almost finished—when a dispute between the producer and the director led to its shelving. Despite these early setbacks, rumours of his strong action skills began to circulate, earning him new offers. He then recalled how, despite Balwaan's success, one critic wrote negatively about him and said, 'When Balwaan got released, it was a blockbuster. However, ek bhut bade critic ne, shayad ek lauta critic tha voh. Usne kaha ki iski film toh chali gayi lekin yeh bahut kharab actor hai (A very big critic, probably the only one at that time, he wrote that even though his film has worked, he is a very bad actor), he doesn't know acting, doesn't know how to walk, his body is so stiff, isko aapni dukaan mein idli vada bechna chahiye (He should sell idli-vada at his restaurant)." Suniel explained, 'He thought he was insulting me, but that idli-vada was my livelihood. It educated my sisters and me, probably way better than those whose fathers didn't sell idli-vada or run a South Indian business. He thought he was making fun of me, but if I am still surviving in the industry after 35 years, it's because of the idli-vada restaurant and my hospitality business. I used to do everything—I cleaned tables, served at the counter, stood in the kitchen. How does that matter? I was Suniel Shetty then, and I am Suniel Shetty now.' Directed by Deepak Anand and produced by Raju Mavani, Balwaan was an action film featuring Suniel Shetty in his debut role, with Divya Bharti, Tinu Anand, and Danny Denzongpa in pivotal parts. The film was declared a hit and gained Suniel recognition in the industry. Suniel was most recently seen in Nadaaniyan, which featured Ibrahim Ali Khan and Khushi Kapoor. He will next appear in Kesari Veer, co-starring Sooraj Pancholi (marking his comeback), Vivek Oberoi, and Akansha Sharma. Directed by Prince Dhiman, the film is scheduled to release in cinemas on 23 May. He also has Welcome to the Jungle in the pipeline, which features Akshay Kumar, Paresh Rawal, Sanjay Dutt, Lara Dutta, Raveena Tandon, Disha Patani, Jacqueline Fernandez, and others in key roles.

Shashi Kapoor refused to work with me because he thought of me as ‘Dara Singh ki heroine': Mumtaz
Veteran actor Mumtaz, known for her roles in films like Brahmachari (1968), Apradh (1972) and Roop Tera Mastana (1972), has often talked about the supposed dark side of Bollywood. She has shared anecdotes about her failed relationships, lobbying in the industry, and even her rivalries. In a recent interview, she talked about her relationship and experience with the Kapoor family, including Shammi Kapoor, Raj Kapoor and Shashi Kapoor. In a conversation with Vickey Lalwani on his podcast, Mumtaz talked about how people in the industry typecast her, and, in some cases, refused to work with her. 'Everybody refused to work with me and called me 'Dara Singh ki heroine'. When Shashi refused to work with me in Sachaa Jhutha, the producer asked him to leave the project, as he had worked with me before in the Dara Singh film Faulad. Then Kaka (Rajesh Khanna) stepped in and did the film with me.' Mumtaz has previously talked about working with Dara Singh in several movies and how that impacted her career. Talking about Shashi's change of heart, which led to them working together in Chor Machaaye Shor (1974), she said, 'Why only Shashi bechara? The whole industry had refused to work with me, and they all did it anyway. I don't want to name them, but they know who they are.' In the same interview she also talked about almost marrying actor Shammi Kapoor, and Raj Kapoor refused to let it happen. She called Shammi 'a very good-looking man' and admitted that she always liked him and wanted to marry him. 'Raj Kapoor was very strict in those days. There was a rule till he was alive that ghar ki bahu kaam nahi karegi. It was as straightforward as that,' added the actor. She also mentioned that she lost a role in Mera Naam Joker because of his reservations about the clothes she would be required to wear in the film.
