Kim K's make-up artist just launched a mascara – and I was one of the first people to try it
EYE SPY Kim K's make-up artist just launched a mascara – and I was one of the first people to try it Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) I'D put money on the fact that mascara is the most popular make-up product. It's definitely the easiest to apply, and makes an immediate difference to your face, so even if you're not into make-up, you can't get it wrong. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up I've had many new mascaras, all promising to be the best one ever, cross my desk already this year with price points ranging from a few pounds to over £50 - and a quick search of throws back over 400 results for "mascara", so it's no wonder finding The One feels like a minefield. I know this is a huge claim - but I think Kim Kardashian's famed make-up artist Mario Dedivanovic's debut mascara might just be the perfect all-rounder. 6 Makeup By Mario Master Mascara took three years to develop Credit: Makeup By Mario Before I tell you why, let me first list all my requirements, so you can understand how picky I am. I've got sensitive eyes that always seem to be itchy, so I need a lightweight formula that doesn't make the problem worse. Because of said itching, it also can't flake - there's nothing worse than looking in the mirror and seeing black specs all over your face. I've got very oily skin, so it needs to be smudge-proof - but because of said sensitive eyes, I try to avoid waterproof formulas, which can take a heavy-duty cleanser to remove. 6 Tara's lashes without mascara Credit: Tara Ledden As for my lashes, they're long (a win!) but fair and very straight - so the brush needs to be able to get into the inner corner of my eye to pick up every hair and lift my lashes, while the formula has to hold them in place once it's on and not clump lashes together or look thick towards the ends. I told you - I'm a really tough customer when it comes to mascara. Miraculously, Makeup By Mario Master Mascara, £28 manages to tick pretty much all the right boxes. A few years ago, I attended a Mario Dedivanovic make-up masterclass where he divulged his foolproof four-step mascara routine. Curl lashes, wipe excess off mascara brush, apply to lashes, then comb lashes through to separate. But the clever design of Makeup By Mario's Master Mascara delivers the same results in one step. 6 Makeup By Mario's cone-shaped wand is great for short lashes Credit: Makeup By Mario Makeup By Mario Master Mascara, £28 It has a cone-shaped tapered wand that I knew I was going to love as soon as I saw it. The slimline design means I can get up close and personal with the base of my lashes without transferring the product on to my eyelid, but it's not too complicated that I need perfect lighting and a magnifying mirror to work out which way to use it. Plus, the head of the wand has fibre bristles, which I prefer, as they help distribute product more evenly. The bristles are super-thin and spiral around the wand, so they comb through every lash - picking up ones I didn't even realise I had - adding volume, and seamlessly carry product from root to tip while also preventing lashes sticking together so they look wispy rather than spider-like. 6 Master Mascara's before and after photos are seriously impressive Credit: Makeup By Mario It has a shorter wand than most on the market, which allows more control as you can get closer to your face. I'm usually wedded to my lash curler, but I've stopped using it completely since trying Master Mascara, as the tubing formula means you can lift your lashes with the wand alone by holding it in place for a few seconds while the formula sets to maintain the curl. Hours after applying, I can feel my lashes touching my brow bone when I look up, so I can vouch for how well it stops them falling flat. 6 Tara's eyelashes after using Makeup by Mario Master Mascara Credit: Tara Ledden The first time I used it, I was worried the formula might be too wet and thus prone to smudging, but it dries down quickly on lashes putting my fears to rest. I even wore it when I went to cheer on my friends running the London Marathon - if you've seen any videos on TikTok, you'll know how emotional it can get, but there was no sign of panda eyes at the finish line. Yet still, because of the pro-vitamin B5 and caster oil-packed formula, my lashes don't feel at all crispy. It's not something I do often, but in the name of research, I even reapplied the mascara after a full day's work to see what would happen. It didn't flake or get clumpy, only upped the volume for a more dramatic look. 6 Master Mascara doesn't flake or smudge, even on oily skin Credit: Makeup By Mario Makeup By Mario Master Mascara, £28 I love how you can tailor the application and achieve countless different looks - from minimalist, lengthened lashes to OTT false-lash effect volume, it's the most versatile formula I've used in a long time!

Chanel's new perfume was eight years in the making – and I tried it first
Chanel is one of the biggest perfume houses on the planet. With more than 40 women's fragrances under its belt, Chanel's prestigious aromas are a masterclass in sophisticated and elegant scenting. After eight years in the shadows, the brand has finally extended its fragrance line with the UK launch of an addition to the chance collection. Introducing: chance eau splendide (£109, While Chanel has dipped its toes into fruity fragrances before with chance eau tendre's grape-quince accord and No. 1 de Chanel's red-berry notes, eau splendide will be the brand's first raspberry perfume. Chanel markets the fragrance as a combination of raspberry zing with rose, violet, iris and geranium, albeit grounded in cedar-musk warmth. Chanel says this bright and delicate fruity-floral draws influence from the words of Coco Chanel: 'Luck is my soul.' Like most fragrance marketing, that's a little vague. It doesn't offer much insight into whether or not this scent lives up to the hype, so I had to get my hands on the fragrance for myself. After an early preview of the perfume, here are my honest thoughts on Chanel's first perfume in nearly a decade. How I tested After speaking with Chanel representatives at a preview of the brand's 'Chance Street' pop-up, I compared the eau splendide marketing with the results of a full day's real-world testing. Following the brand's advice, I spritzed the eau de parfum inside my clothing and onto the base and nape of the neck, applying it around 9am and paying attention to its staying power as the day wore on. I noted any changes as the fragrance settled and reflected on any differences between the scents on paper and how they actually smelled on my skin. Here's how I got on. Why you can trust IndyBest reviews As well as being The Independent 's resident Marc Jacobs perfume expert, I'm currently in the process of reviewing more than 20 popular eaux de parfum and eaux de toilette for an upcoming IndyBest guide. As for Chanel, I've spoken to the brand's fragrance expert at Harrods' salon de parfums boutique and have written about its other beauty best-sellers, including the les beiges bronzing cream. Now, after years of wearing Chanel's chance eau fraîche EDP, I took an early look at the all-new eau splendide iteration.

HANNAH BETTS: These are the best anti-ageing SPFs to give women over 50 amazing skin, from just £8.65
If you've been enjoying some rays of glorious sunshine this Easter, you know what I'm going to say: 'Sisters, SPF 50 now!' Ideally, you will have been deploying this during winter anyway. The sun emits harmful rays all year, even on cloudy and rainy days, even through windows. Dermatologists consider year-round SPF vital for everyone. And it's particularly important at moments of hormonal flux – hello, midlife – which can make skin neurotically sensitive to damage. Still, the stats are lamentable. Only 22 per cent of Britons apply SPF daily, and a third of those are using less than the (minimum) factor 30. A bit of SPF in your moisturiser or foundation is not enough - we don't spread it sufficiently thickly. One in seven never apply sunscreen, and just over half only bother when it's glaringly sunny. We oldsters are the worst: 60 per cent of those aged 45-54 only using SPF when the sun is blazing. Small wonder that - while melanoma skin cancer rates have dropped among the young - for those in our fifties the rate is up by as much as 102 per cent. There is no point throwing money at complexion restoring, if you're not taking the one essential measure to prevent premature ageing. The good news: SPF tech and textures are now so brilliant that the right sunscreen will not only shield your skin, but make it look fantastic. Here's my pick of the crop. 1. My SPF all-rounder hero Heliocare 360° A-R Emulsion SPF50+ £32.99 Shop Heliocare 360° A-R Emulsion SPF50+ (£32.99, was my pash of summer 2024, and I am yet to discover anything to supplant it. Heliocare has just become the first SPF to be included in Boots's new Specialist Skin section, dedicated to dermatologically-backed solutions. Accordingly, it provides very high-level, full-spectrum protection (blue light from screens included – yes, we have to fret about that too), plus supercharged antioxidant benefits. But, I adore it because it makes my complexion look dreamy, imparting a lustrous gleam. Sensitive-skin friendly, it minimises redness, making a beautiful, stay-all-day make-up base. The business. 2. My SPF salve for dry skin Thank You Farmer Sun Project Water Cream SPF50 £22 Shop Dry skin in the sun can happen – and make you even more susceptible to damage. Thank You Farmer Sun Project Water Cream SPF50 (£22, is a godsend, formulated with hydrators and oil for dewy resilience. Yet, it's not in the least heavy, feeling like the loveliest day cream. Dryness, be damned. 3. My perfect SPF for oily skin Supergoop's Protec(Tint) Daily Skin Tint SPF 50 £40 Shop US favourite Supergoop's Protec(Tint) Daily Skin Tint SPF 50 (£32, arrived on our shores this March, and is already the daily obsession of my oily-skinned tester. Non-greasy, sweatproof, in 14 flexible shades, it offers protection-plus-pigment in a matte, second-skin finish, defence against blue light, radiation and pollution. Belt-and-braces brilliance. 4. The SPF make-up primer I swear by Mecca Cosmetica To Save Face SPF50+ Brightening Sun Serum £38 Shop For women who demand their make-up be both exquisite and long-stay, Oz's Mecca Cosmetica is the answer. Mecca Cosmetica To Save Face SPF50+ Brightening Sun Serum (£38,) is incredible: a shield enhanced by 3 per cent niacinamide to smooth lines and hydrate, while light-reflecting pearls melt into the skin for a radiant glow. Stunning skin guaranteed. 5. My favourite mineral SPF Tatcha The Silk Sunscreen SPF 50 £65 Shop There are two types of sunscreen: mineral and chemical. Mineral formulas are made from natural ingredients forming a physical barrier reflecting rays away from the skin. Chemical formulas absorb into your skin, then reflect UV light back. Some users worry about this chemical content, preferring mineral blocks. Traditionally, these were pasty and greasy affairs. No longer! My favourite of these new-broom, beautifully-textured mineral screens is Tatcha The Silk Sunscreen SPF 50 (£65,). It's weightless, hydrating, and – yes – sensationally silky. 6. My luxury SPF hot take Sisley Sunleÿa Anti-Ageing Suncare SPF50+ Sometimes one is ready to splurge on sunscreen-as-skincare. I'm currently rather partial to the Sisley Sunleÿa Anti-Ageing Suncare SPF50+ (a seriously hefty £228 for 50ml) making me feel like a soignée Parisian, who learnt skincare on her mother's knee. Forget the dense and mask-like SPFs of old. This simply feels like a fancy, feather-light face cream. Then you remember that you are stalwartly sun-shielded. 7. My brilliant budget SPF Garnier Ambre Solaire Anti-Age Super UV Protection Cream SPF50 As with posher options, Garnier's excellent Ambre Solaire Anti-Age Super UV Protection Cream SPF50 (now £8.65) also boasts skincare benefits such as hyaluronic acid and niacinamide, reducing the appearance of wrinkles by up to 22 per cent. Then top up every couple of hours with Garnier Ambre Solaire Over Makeup Super UV Protection Mist SPF50 (£12.99). Job done. My Spring spritzes Glossier You Fleur Eau de Parfum Your skin in a spring breeze – warm, soothed, blossom-scented, cashmere soft. Now £32 Shop Givenchy Tapageur Eau de Parfum An uplifting floral with green mandarin, orange blossom, iris, black tea & sandalwood. £145 Shop Maison Margiela Spring Set A trio of spring flings: Beach Walk, Bubble Bath & When The Rain Stops eau de toilettes. £60 for 10ml x 3 Shop And Other Stories Paper Blossom Bright, breezy with an initial blackcurrant element, yielding to green violet, pear & pomelo. From £18 Shop Race You To It From the makers of UK's best-selling swish bronzer, Benefit Hoola Matte Powder Bronzer (from £17), comes the all-new Benefit Hoola Wave Bronzing Balm (£33, Buttery, gliding, weightless, it sets for waterproof, sweat- and smudge-proof 12-hour wear. Full of omega fatty acids for a modern, nourished, fresh-from-the-beach gleam. Benefit Hoola Wave Bronzing Balm £33 Shop Cosmetic Craving I've never been an eye-product devotee, yet I keep coming back to Perricone MD High Potency Growth Factor Firming & Lifting Eye Serum ( £64, In general, serums are preferable to creams around an ageing eye because heavy textures can cause puffiness. More specifically, this wonder really does boast visible lifting, firming and de-puffing effects. After one application, my eye area looked fresher, more open, and less lined come morning, thanks to Dr Perricone's polyamine (cell-growth stimulating) tech. Reviewers agree, the consensus being: impressive, this works, even on heavier crow's feet. Currently on offer at sephora, I strongly recommend investing.
