Jaguar Land Rover(JLR) has updated itsDefenderline-up for the 2026 model year, announcing upgrades to the design and technology found across its 90, 110, 130 andOCTAmodels that make the Defender 'more distinctive and ready for adventure than ever.' From new finishes to new features, the entire 2026 Defender family has seen subtle changes including newly designed headlights and fog lights, and flush-fitting rear lights that have received a smoked lens treatment – and, according to JLR , there is 'signature detailing' throughout. Further upgrades to the cars' exteriors include 'optimized' surfaces on the front and rear bumpers, and both the bonnet inserts and side vents have received a new textured pattern that the brand claims creates 'a strong and adventurous look.' All 2026 models will also come with the new Defender-branded wheel caps in 'Gloss Black' – as well as a grille-bar in the same color – as standard. The color palette across the Defender range has also been refreshed and JLR has introduced two new colors, 'Woolstone Green' and 'Borasco Grey,' that compliment both the existing fleet and the other aesthetic changes the brand has implemented. Buyers can choose to splash one of these new hues across the main exterior of their chosen car, or reserve for detailing. Inside, the cars now feature a larger 13.1-inch touchscreen and an ergonomically repositioned dash-mounted gear shifter. While the changes are subtle, the brand claims its new display 'provides even more intuitive control for infotainment' and says that its 'latest centre console design allows clients to make the most of the space on offer.' The 2026 model year Defender is also being offered with Adaptive Off-Road Cruise Control for the first time, which JLR is making available as an optional feature, saying that it 'automatically adjusts the speed to maintain the desired level of comfort over undulating surfaces, for unruffled off-road driving.' This technology lets the driver lock in a preferred comfort level while negotiating off-road, which in turn allows them to focus purely on steering, and it adjusts the speed automatically to maintain the driver's preferred selection when moving over undulating surfaces. The brand has even introduced a feature known as 'Driver Attention Monitor,' which uses a driver-facing camera to monitor the gaze of whoever is behind the wheel and provides 'audio-visual alerts to help ensure they are paying attention to the road ahead' – if this puts you off, JLR says it can be 'adjusted, enabled or disabled.' Model-specific updates include an optional integrated air compressor that can be had with the Defender 130, allowing users to easily adjust tire pressures while out and about. Additionally, the Defender OCTA's is getting a new 'Textured Graphite' finish on the outside, which the brand says gives it an 'even more rugged appearance.' Land Rover has announced that its Defender 4x4 lineup will get a facelift, sporting upgraded finishes, design, and technology enhancements across the 90, 110 and 130 body designs - including the Defender OCTA. The Defender's tough exterior receives optimised surfaces for its new front and rear bumpers - whether finished in Silicon Silver or Carpathian Grey Satin on most models - and a new textured pattern for its bonnet inserts and side vents. All models get new Gloss Black Defender-branded wheel centre caps. Redesigned headlights provide a distinctive new signature when lit, while its flush-fitting taillights now have a dark tinted finish. A gloss black grille-bar complemented by a dark oval badge now comes as standard. In addition, the lineup will get a refreshed palette of exterior colours and finishes, including Woolstone Green and Borasco Grey. Inside, a new 13.1-inch touchscreen for the infotainment system brings all of the Defender's technology highlights to its front-row occupants via a larger display. A sliding section hides small items out of sight in a closed cubby while maintaining access to the deeper stowage area beneath. Available as part of the Signature Suite upgrade, removable side pockets further enhance convenience, with cable routing to keep items charged without wires trailing around the cabin. Alternatively, clients can opt for the centre "jump" seat for practical three-abreast seating across the front on most models. The Defender is now available with optional Adaptive Off-Road Cruise Control for the first time, allowing the driver to set a desired comfort level when negotiating rough terrain. As for the Defender OCTA, heralded as the extreme performance hero of the unstoppable Defender family, it now has a revised colour palette: In addition to existing Charente Grey and Petra Copper colours, clients can also choose from Borasco Grey and all-new Sargasso Blue. In addition to the existing Matte Protective Film available on all Defender OCTA exteriors, clients will also be able to choose a Patagonia White Matte Wrap finish from late 2025. Chopped Carbon Fibre exterior and interior accents can now be specified on the Defender OCTA as an option, along with further personalisation options including Matte Protective Film, four interior colourways, and a choice of wheel and tyre combinations including 20-inch forged alloy wheels. An optional Defender accessory pack, titled the Urban Pack, allows clients to personalise their vehicle. New individual accessories include black variations of the Cross Bars and Front Undershield, while the rear scuff plate is now also offered in a dark finish, in addition to its existing bright finish. Introduction of new tech and exterior changes hasn't come with any price increases following the initial line-up refresh in January this year. Having refreshed its line-up back in January, JLR South Africa has introduced yet more upgrades to the Defender range, this time externally and inside than mechanically. New outside Applicable to all three bodystyles, 90, 110 and 130, the exterior revisions consists of 22-inch diamond turned dark grey alloy wheels, a tinted finish for the restyled taillight clusters, a dark oval badge on the grille, new headlights and a gloss black finish for the grille bars across all variants. OCTA bespoke Besides the regular Defender range, the hardcore OCTA has not been omitted from the changes despite having only made its world debut in July last year. Image: JLR Centring on its exterior as it benefits from the same interior and tech updates as its siblings, the OCTA gets textured graphite trim, Phosphor Bronze outer edging on the Defender bonnet script, bumpers and side vents, optional carbon fibre accents and four colours for the 20-inch forged alloy wheels. The final change is a revised choice of colours with only Charente Grey and Petra Copper being carried over. Nothing new up front Up front, the unchanged engine line-up consists of the 3.0-litre Ingenium straight-six turbodiesel in the D250 and D350, the mild-hybrid Ingenium 3.0-litre straight-six turbo in the P400, and the 2.0-litre Ingenium four-cylinder turbo-petrol paired to an electric motor and battery pack in the plug-in hybrid P400e. For the former pair, outputs remain at 183kW/570Nm and 257kW/600Nm while the P400, without the electric hardware factored in, develops 294kW/550Nm. Image: JLR In combined form, the plug-in hybrid P400e outputs 297kW/640Nm and, according to JLR, will travel emissions-free for 59 km. At the range's summit, the venerable AJ-V8 5.0-litre supercharged V8 soldieries on with outputs of 386kW/626Nm in the simply titled Defender V8. As before, all engines are mated to the ZF-sourced eight-speed automatic transmission. Price Price-wise, no changes have been made since the January updates. Land Rover has treated its popular Defender range to a measured refresh. Cautious to not mess with what has proved a winning recipe for the British brand, it's an understandably subtle affair, with exterior revisions limited to a few modest updates. The business end of this macho off-roader differentiates itself from the outgoing model with a pair of redesigned headlamps featuring distinctive new light signatures, an optimised bumper that can be finished in Silicon Silver or Carpathian Grey Satin, a gloss black grille-bar and a new textured pattern for the bonnet inserts and side vents. Elsewhere customers can look forward to flush-fitting tail lights with a new dark tinted finish, gloss black Defender-branded wheel centre caps, the option of new 22" seven-spoke Diamond Turned Dark Grey alloy wheels, updated rear bumper and the option of new exterior hues including Borasco Grey metallic and Woolstone Green. The flagship OCTA colour palette extends to Sargasso Blue, Borasco Grey and Patagonia White Matte, while chopped carbon fibre exterior/interior accents can now be specified as an option. The cabin has been spruced up with the fitment of a new 13.1" touchscreen infotainment system, repositioned dash-mounted gear shifter and a revised centre console featuring a new sliding section in which to hide personal items out of sight in a closed cubby. Available as part of the Signature Suite upgrade, removable side pockets further enhance convenience, with cable routing to keep items charged without wires trailing around the cabin. Alternatively, clients can opt for the centre jump seat for practical three-abreast seating across the front on most models. For those venturing off-road, Defender is now available with optional Adaptive Off-Road Cruise Control for the first time. This technology is an evolution of the firm's All Terrain Progress Control and allows the driver to set a desired pace when negotiating rough terrain, so they can concentrate on steering the vehicle — improving composure off-road while reducing driver effort. The system automatically adjusts the speed to maintain the desired level of comfort over undulating surfaces for unruffled off-road performance. A new Driver Attention Monitor features a driver-facing camera to provide added reassurance and safety in all conditions. By monitoring the driver's gaze, the system provides audiovisual alerts to help ensure they are paying attention to the road ahead. Land Rover said it can be adjusted, enabled or disabled using the driver assistance menu. Optional Defender accessory packs allow clients to personalise their vehicle and include the Explorer Pack, Adventure Pack and Urban Pack. New individual accessories include black variations of the Expedition Roof Rack, Cross Bars and Front Undershield, while the rear scuff plate is now also offered in a dark finish, in addition to the existing bright finish. Getting in and out of Defender is easier than ever, thanks to deployable or fixed sidesteps, while the OCTA's adventure capabilities are further enhanced with a specially integrated 4,500kg-rated winch with a chopped carbon fibre cover. Defender 130 is now available with an integrated air compressor option — perfect for topping up tyre pressures after driving with reduced pressures on soft sand. In addition, matte black bonnet decals have been updated with new Defender script across 90, 110 and 130 body designs.

Chopped Carbon Fibre exterior and interior accents can now be specified as an option, along with four interior colourways and a choice of wheel and tyre combinations, including 20-inch forged alloy wheels. Behind a chopped carbon fibre cover, there's a specially-integrated 4,500kg-rated winch. The Defender range is priced from R1 801 100.
