Despite knowing his prognosis, Jess, from Kampung Panjut Tuaran, faced his illness with quiet courage, undergoing surgery and radiotherapy. One of his proudest final acts was participating in the 2025 Borneo International Marathon under MAPPAC, walking the 3KM category as a symbol of strength, resilience, and determination. 'Though his race has ended, Jess crossed the finish line with courage, heart, and grace,' said the Kinabalu Running Club in tribute. Jess is remembered not only for his bravery, but for the kindness and inspiration he brought to those around him. He leaves behind a legacy of strength, love, and purpose. MAPPAC continues to champion quality care for children with life-limiting illnesses, supporting families and caregivers across Malaysia. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? The marathon will feature four categories — 42km, 21km, 10km, and 3km — with an estimated 7,859 runners from Malaysia and abroad. A total of four officers and 90 police personnel will be deployed to manage traffic and ensure the safety of all participants. The 42km route starts at Likas Sports Complex, passing through Jalan Tun Fuad Stephen, Jalan Lintas, Jalan Tuaran Bypass, and Jalan UMS, and ends back at the stadium. The 21km route covers landmarks such as Masjid Negeri, Menara Kinabalu, Jalan UMS and Bulatan Alamesra before returning to the stadium. The 10km race will see runners looping around Bulatan Istiadat and Masjid Bandaraya with a turnaround at Bulatan Pelabuhan. The 3km route, dedicated to people with disability participants, will run a short loop around Bulatan Istiadat and return to the starting point. Temporary road closures will begin at 5.30am, especially affecting areas near Bulatan Bunga Raya, JQ slip road, Bulatan Hakka, and Bulatan Masjid Bandaraya. Motorists will be redirected to alternative routes, including Jalan Coastal, Jalan Lintas, and Jalan Bukit Bendera. The public is advised to plan their journeys early and cooperate with traffic diversions to ensure a smooth and safe event. * Follow us on Instagram and join our Telegram and/or WhatsApp channel(s) for the latest news you don't want to miss. * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news?
