Lana Del Rey's First Blockbuster Rockets Up The Charts

As 'Bluebird' drops, Lana Del Rey sees Born to Die and Ultraviolence return to U.K. charts, with the ... More former rising on four rankings and nearing a 300-week milestone. (Photo by Jeff Kravitz/FilmMagic) There's a lot of excitement surrounding Lana Del Rey's music career at the moment as she heads toward the release of a brand new album. She's keeping fans on the edge of their seats, as she hasn't revealed an official release date for the set. In the months since she began talking about the effort, she's changed its title more than once, and currently, it doesn't even have a name. The singer-songwriter has already dropped multiple tunes from the forthcoming full-length, and fans seem to be loving everything she's offering. This week, as her latest cut 'Bluebird' arrives, interest in her catalog has surged once again. Del Rey brings multiple albums back to the charts in the United Kingdom, turning two different titles into bestsellers. As is almost always the case, Del Rey's debut full-length Born to Die remains her most successful project in the U.K. This frame, the title appears on five rankings, thanks to both strong sales and streaming — especially for a collection that's been out for well over a decade. This time around, it lifts on three of those lists, drops on just one (and only by a few spaces), and reenters the Official Vinyl Albums chart. It's a top 40 bestseller again on wax, landing at No. 39 after not appearing on the tally just last week. Born to Die also manages to ascend by more than 60 spaces on both the Official Albums Sales (No. 37) and the Official Physical Albums charts (No. 35). Last week, the U.K. rankings were packed with Record Store Day releases, which were only available to purchase physically — which helps explain why so many titles are rising this week and why many classics have returned simultaneously. The title also improves on the Official Albums Streaming ranking, rising three spots to No. 61. While it does decline by four spaces on the Official Albums chart, the fact that it's still living somewhere in the middle of the ranking of the most-consumed projects in the country — just one week away from its three hundredth stay on the tally — is amazing. Del Rey fills a pair of spots on the Official Physical Albums chart this week. Ultraviolence, Del Rey's 2014 release and second proper major studio offering, is back as a bestseller on vinyl, CD, and cassette once more. The title narrowly finds space on the list — which features 100 positions — as it reenters at No. 97. It has now spent 119 frames somewhere on this specific tally and, in the past, has climbed all the way to No. 1, something that Born to Die also managed.

Lana Del Rey's New Hit Single Helps Her Debut Album Grow

There's a lot of excitement swirling around Lana Del Rey's music right now. The Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter spent months teasing a new album, and while fans still don't know exactly when they'll be able to hear the full collection — or even what it's called — it's clear that momentum is building. Del Rey has already dropped several tunes from the upcoming project, and it looks like promotion of the full-length has started in earnest. All that attention seems to be having a very real and positive effect on the album that started it all. Del Rey appears on double-digit Billboard rankings with her new single. She only manages to find space on a few lists dedicated to albums, and just her first full-length is still present – and it's on the rise. On the Top Alternative Albums chart, Born to Die nearly cracks the top 10 once more, rising from No. 15 to No. 12. It also lifts four spaces on the Top Rock & Alternative Albums roster, climbing to No. 22. Perhaps most impressively, it edges closer to the upper half of the Billboard 200, pushing from No. 120 to No. 103. Despite its age – it's now more than a decade old – Born to Die is clearly still connecting with listeners. The title shifted another 12,100 equivalent units in the U.S. last week, according to Luminate. That sum is up almost 8% from the previous frame, a healthy jump for a project first released back in early 2012. As is typical for an older album, most of those units come from streaming activity. That said, Born to Die also managed to sell more than 2,100 copies in terms of pure purchases. The renewed interest in Born to Die (not that it's ever forgotten) is likely tied to the buzz surrounding Del Rey's brand new single 'Henry, Come On.' That recently-released cut debuts on 10 Billboard charts this week. The new tune is set to appear on her forthcoming, still-untitled full-length, and it's off to a strong start. The track reaches so many lists, in part, because it's categorized under both the alternative and rock genres. That style-blending allows it to qualify for multiple tallies, and its sales and streaming showings were strong enough to bring it to many rosters. The single even breaks onto the Hot 100, as well as both of Billboard's global rankings, in its debut frame. It manages to crack the top 10 on two sales-focused charts, opening at No. 4 on the Alternative Digital Song Sales chart and No. 5 on the Rock Digital Song Sales list.

Lana Del Rey's New Chapter Begins As Her Debut Album Becomes A Bestseller

Lana Del Rey's debut album Born to Die becomes a bestseller in America as "Henry, Come On," the lead ... More single from her forthcoming project, arrives. (Photo by Katja Ogrin/Redferns/Getty Images for ABA) For months now, Lana Del Rey has been teasing a new album. The singer-songwriter has dropped details in interviews, even mentioning possible titles — some of which have already been discarded. At various points, she's described the effort as a country project, and then altered that description, though as the timeline has stretched on, specifics have changed more than once. Now, as Del Rey finally releases the first single from the upcoming full-length, fans are getting excited, and they finally have something to listen to and enjoy while they wait to see when the set will finally be delivered. Del Rey's brand new single 'Henry, Come On' may be getting all the headlines at the moment, but its arrival has seemingly convinced fans to revisit her earliest work. Born to Die, the full-length that turned her into a star more than a decade ago, is once again one of the top-selling titles in the U.S. This week, the project returns to Billboard's Top Album Sales chart, the 50-spot ranking of the bestselling albums in the country based purely on purchases. Born to Die reenters at No. 47 on the tally. According to Luminate, the collection sold just over 2,400 copies in the latest tracking frame. That's only a small increase from the week prior, but it is enough to push the title back onto the competitive list. Del Rey's notable performance on the charts in America doesn't end with the Top Album Sales list. Born to Die can be found on three other Billboard rankings this week. It climbs slightly on two of them and only dips on one. On the Top Alternative Albums chart, Born to Die rises one rung to No. 13. Over on the Top Rock & Alternative Albums ranking, it also improves by a single spot, moving up to No. 21. At the same time, the set takes a modest step down on the Billboard 200, where it slips just one space to No. 107. Throughout the years, Born to Die has managed to hit No. 1 on both the Top Alternative Albums and the Top Rock & Alternative Albums rankings. While it's never quite ruled the Billboard 200 or the Top Album Sales chart, it has come very close on both. The album has peaked at No. 2 on each of those tallies. On Friday (April 11), Del Rey finally released the first single from her upcoming effort. Titled 'Henry, Come On,' the track arrived with plenty of fanfare, as fans of the singer-songwriter had been eagerly anticipating hearing what this new sonic direction would sound like. The acoustic ballad leans into the country sound she's been promising for some time now, but not too intensely. But just as the tune was being embraced by her followers, the singer also shared some frustrating news. Del Rey revealed that the album has once again undergone a revamp. The previous May release window is no longer in place, and a new title and date have yet to be confirmed.

Lana Del Rey's Early Album Is A Bestseller Again, A Decade Later

More than 10 years after its debut, Ultraviolence returns to the U.K. charts, reinforcing Lana Del ... More Rey's never-ending popularity. INDIO, CA - APRIL 13: Lana Del Rey performs as part of the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival at The Empire Polo Club on April 13, 2014 in Indio, California. (Photo by Tim Mosenfelder/WireImage) Lana Del Rey can almost always be found somewhere on one chart or another, typically with her debut full-length Born to Die, which has become a near-permanent fixture across several rankings in a number of nations, especially in the United Kingdom. This week, that album is still around, but it's not the only one. One of her other earlier projects, Ultraviolence, joins its predecessor and is once again a bestseller across the pond. Ultraviolence returns to a pair of purchase-based tallies in the U.K. this frame. The moody, guitar-heavy release is back on both the Official Physical Albums and Official Albums Sales charts. While it doesn't come roaring back to a high point, it sells just well enough to reenter the rankings, underlining the fact that Del Rey's fans are still buying copies more than a decade after it first dropped. This time around, Ultraviolence returns at No. 93 on the Official Physical Albums list and No. 98 on the broader Official Albums Sales ranking. Ultraviolence has enjoyed more success on one of the two charts than the other, though it's performed well on both in the past. Years ago, the set managed to climb all the way to No. 1 on the Official Physical Albums chart. It never reached that same summit on the Official Albums Sales ranking, though. At its best, it pushed as high as No. 5 on that slightly more competitive roster. Throughout the years, Ultraviolence has spent considerably more time on the Official Physical Albums chart than on the other sales-based list, as it's clear that the set is more successful when it comes to physical purchases specifically. So far, the title has now racked up 117 frames on the physical-only ranking. That's well ahead of the 89 it's managed on the Official Albums Sales list. Despite being released back in 2014, Ultraviolence doesn't stay away from the U.K. charts for very long. This latest comeback comes only about a month after the full-length last disappeared from both of these tallies. Del Rey's project has established a pattern of falling off and then bouncing back, often depending on how much competition is out there in a given frame. Lana Del Rey released Ultraviolence in June 2014 as the follow-up to her global breakthrough Born to Die. The set quickly became another major hit, especially in markets like the U.K., where it hit No. 1. The project earned strong reviews for its darker, rock sound and proved that Del Rey wasn't a one-album wonder. Singles like 'West Coast,' 'Shades of Cool,' 'Brooklyn Baby,' and the title track helped drive interest in the album, though none were huge commercial successes on their own – something that's not usual for the singer-songwriter.

Serial bank robber — who dabbles as a crime novelist — allegedly strikes again

A serial bank robber — who dabbles as a fictional crime author and has an affinity for luxury wheels — allegedly knocked off two more financial institutions near Detroit, a year after being released from prison, officials said Wednesday. Dorian Trevor Sykes, 41, was arrested Tuesday and accused of robbing the Credit Union One in Sterling Heights on March 6 and then a Chase branch in Lathrup Village on March 12, according to a criminal complaint written by police officer Matthew Willard, who is assigned to the FBI's Macomb County Gang and Violent Crime Task Force. In the March 6 incident, a man walked into the credit union, handed a teller a note and said, "This is a robbery," according to Willard. The man asked for "big bills" before fleeing in a "black crossover vehicle, possible a Mercedes sedan," with $10,169, the complaint continued. Fingerprints lifted from the credit union's front door matched that of Sykes, who drives a black Mercedes sedan, authorities said Then six days later, a man walked into the Chase location and gave a teller "a withdraw slip, which stated, 'Give me all the money ... I have a gun ... I will kill everyone in here," the complaint stated. "The robber also pointed to his right side, implying that he had a weapon," Willard added. The suspect fled with about $3,400 and surveillance cameras showed him "running behind a condominium complex and" entering "a parked white Rolls Royce SUV." Sykes had been released from prison in February last year and was under federal supervision, officials said. When he's not allegedly robbing banks, Sykes appears to spend time behind the keyboard in his side hustle as an author of crime novels. His works include 'King of Detroit,' 'The Good Life,' 'Going All Out' and 'Born to Die.' His probation officer confirmed that Sykes drove a black Mercedes sedan and cellphone records placed him near the credit union and bank at the times of those robberies, according to Willard. Sykes, who is known to frequent the MGM Grand Detroit, was nearly arrested on March 12 near that casino, officials said. Cell phone pings placed him near MGM that night but when law enforcement moved in on Sykes, he sped away in a Rolls Royce SUV and remained free until his arrest on Tuesday, police said. Sykes made his initial appearance before a judge Tuesday and asked to represent himself in court. Before his release from prison, Sykes had been serving time for two robberies he pulled Aug. 12, 2019. He hit a Citizen's Bank in Warren, getting away with $1,220, before knocking off a Comerica Bank in Oak Park and fleeing with $810. Those robberies happened "just six weeks after being released from a 17-year prison sentence for the same type of behavior" as he was "on federal supervised release when he committed those crimes," Assistant U.S. Attorney Frances Carlson wrote in a 2020 sentencing memo, asking for a 71-month sentence. "Sykes' history paints a troubling and unmistakable picture of a person who has a complete disregard for the law," according to Carlson. This article was originally published on
