Ten minutes with Johnny McEvoy
THE singer Johnny McEvoy has just celebrated his 80th birthday. He has marked the milestone with a new album entitled Both Sides — 14 songs and six audio stories recorded and read by the singer. This week he took time our to talk to the Irish Post... Johnny McEvoy has released a new album What are you up to? I'm writing poems, short stories, songs and I'm still touring. Which piece of music always sends a shiver down your spine? There is one piece that does it: Beethoven's Emperor Concerto. It was featured in a 1975 Australian movie called Picnic At Hanging Rock which is actually one of my favourite movies. Which musician or singer has most influenced you? There are two: Hank Williams influenced me a lot in my early years followed by the best of them all in my opinion, Liam Clancy. I believe he was the best singer and storyteller, the while being also very theatrical. What's on your smartphone playlist at the minute? I don't have one. What are your favourite lyrics? Any of Dylan's songs: Desolation Row I believe is his finest. But I could name dozens of other songs from various artists. The Planter's Daughter is an intriguing song that you wrote. What's the story behind it? It's a song I wrote about my wife. It tells the story of how we met, trying to find a decent chat up line, and after many failed attempts she eventually agreed to meet me for a coffee. We were together for 50 years. I'll always love the planter's daughter. What are your Irish roots? My family roots are in Galway, but I was born in Banagher, Co. Offaly. The family left there when I was 6, and have lived in Dublin and surrounding areas since. What is your favourite place in Ireland? A place I would find moving in an historical and atmospheric way would be the Feather Beds in the Dublin mountains. I always find it very calming and it just sits there unchanged in silence looking down over Dublin. What would you say has been your proudest moment on stage over you many decades of singing? Any night can be your proudest night, but the next night can be a disaster. I wouldn't change a thing. McEvoy's new album Both Sides What has been your favourite venue? The Gaiety Theatre in Dublin, when I walk into the Gaiety even now 60 years after I first performed there the smell alone brings back a thousand memories. Have you a book that has been a major influence on you? Sean O'Casey's autobiography. Which living person do you most admire? Any man or woman who deals with addiction and comes out on top. Which trait in others do you most admire? I would admire loyalty most. What would be your motto? Everything begins and ends at exactly the right time and place, would be something I live by. What's the best advice you've ever been given? Do your job and do it to the best of your was from my dad. In terms of inanimate objects, what is your most precious possession? A portrait of Michael Collins that was given to me by my wife the day we got married. What's best thing about where you live? The sea. And the worst? The DART. What do you believe in? I'm growing to believe in myself. What do you consider the greatest work of art? For me Michelangelo's David. Who is the greatest love of your life? Odette, my wife, was the love of my life.

Justin Bieber's ex Chantel Jeffries sizzles in a swimsuit at Stagecoach as fans call her 'cowgirl cool'
Chantel Jeffries has shared a portfolio of photos to Instagram from her vacation in Indio, California. The DJ looked stunning in an orange bikini as she added a cowgirl hat while taking selfies in the desert. The beauty said the event was her 'last rodeo' as she shared photos from the packed festival over the weekend. The 2025 Stagecoach Festival, a country music festival, took place at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California, from April 25th to 27th. Headliners included Zach Bryan, Jelly Roll, and Luke Combs. Lana Del Rey and Sturgill Simpson also performed. The festival is livestreamed on Amazon Music's Twitch channel and Prime Video. Jeffries, whose full birth name is Chantel Taleen Jeffries, is a 32-year-old from Coronado, California. Fans went wild for the photos as they called her 'hotter than hot'; 'cowgirl cool'; and added, 'Chantel you are Stagecoach Spectacular.' Chantel has never looked better. The ex of Justin Bieber talked in 2023 about how she keeps her slender figure. The DJ previously told about staying fit and the diet that she strictly follows. The beauty explained, 'It's become a lifestyle,' while adding that she eats, 'pretty healthy but it's not really dieting.' 'I have problems with a lot of different foods and when I eat them I don't feel so good so I try to stick to exactly what I'm supposed to eat so that I don't feel sick and then I just stay in shape because everything's pretty healthy.' The Both Sides hitmaker continued, 'I try to stay away from sugar as much as possible.' 'I don't eat dairy or gluten because I'm allergic, so I just think during the holidays, being active and going for walks and stuff like that because you're eating so much.' 'Whenever I'm home, every time I finish a large meal I like to go for a nice walk. It's good to digest your food and clear your head anyways,' the model continued. The media personality currently boasts almost 5million followers on Instagram, and often shares stylish snaps to her fans. Chantel also stepped into the music industry when she dropped her debut single titled, Wait, back in 2018. That same year, she released other hits such as Both Sides. While talking to Billboard back in 2018, she opened up about how the internet had helped influence her career in music. 'I think the Internet has influenced my career so heavily because before we had the whole world at our fingertips, you were only exposed to things from people that were around you or the town you were in, or things like that.' Jeffries later added, 'I was exposed to a lot of different types of music living all around the US growing up, and my parents were into a lot of different types of music be it gospel or country.' 'But with the Internet and social media, I was able to explore that and be able to find people that were up-and-coming and listen to their stuff.'

Joni Mitchell streams surge after Amanda Seyfried's viral ‘California' cover on Jimmy Fallon
Amanda Seyfried 's viral cover of 'California' by Joni Mitchell has sparked a huge surge in streams for the revered singer-songwriter. Seyfried appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon earlier this month, where she revealed that she taught herself how to play the dulcimer during the pandemic. To demonstrate, she delivered a note-perfect rendition of the 1971 song from Mitchell's album Blue, much of which was composed on the dulcimer. 'What are you talking about?' a stunned Fallon exclaimed, while the audience gave Seyfried a rapturous round of applause. The performance quickly went viral and even led to speculation that Seyfried was throwing her name into the ring to play Mitchell in Cameron Crowe 's forthcoming biopic. The actor insisted that it was not an audition as she said she was 'very much aged out' of playing a young Mitchell. Still, her rendition clearly hit all the right notes, as Billboard r eports, via entertainment data platform Luminate, that streams of 'California' surged by 794 per cent – from 100,000 streams to just over one million – after the late-night clip aired. The surge was aided in part by the clip doing the rounds on TikTok, which has previously aided artists including Fleetwood Mac and Kate Bush in finding new generations of fans. Almost Famous director Crowe announced that he was working with Mitchell on a film based on her life and career back in 2023. It has not yet been revealed who will portray the legendary artist as a young woman. Meryl Streep is reported set to play the 'Big Yellow Taxi' singer in her later years. 'I'm super-excited. We're going to start it by the end of this year and hopefully have it done for Christmas next year,' Crowe told Ultimate Classic Rock in December 2024. 'It's Joni's life, not through anybody else's prism. It's through her prism. It's the characters who impacted her life that you know and a lot that you don't know. And the music is so cinematic,' he added. The yet-to-be titled biopic is currently being lined up for a 2025 Christmas release date. Seyfried's performance arrived after Mitchell made a rare public appearance in January to help raise funds towards rebuilding efforts in California, following the devastating wildfires that destroyed thousands of homes and businesses. The singer, 81, sang 'Both Sides, Now' from her 1969 album Clouds at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles on 30 January.
