Evil mom tortured kids to pretend they were sick —almost killing one by draining his blood: ‘Nothing short of horrifying'

A 'heinous' Minnesota mom tortured her three kids to make them look seriously sick and get money for their care — almost killing her 9-year-old son by draining his blood to pretend he was dying of a mystery illness. Jordan Nicole Borders, 34, put her kids through five years of abuse that was 'nothing short of horrifying,' Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison said as the mom was sentenced to 39 years in prison. 'Borders' crimes are some of the most heinous and agonizing I have seen.' Doctors became suspicious in 2022 when Borders' young son had 'dangerously low levels of hemoglobin' in his blood with no obvious explanation — and they realized her other kids had mysterious illnesses, too, for which the mom was collecting tens of thousands to help pay for treatment. Her 8-year-old daughter wore an unprescribed hearing aid, causing a boil on the back of her ear, while her 11-year-old son wore a cast for more than two years while supposedly suffering from brittle bone disease. Jorden Nicole Borders, 34, would take her son's own blood so he appeared sick. Crow Wing County Jail When interviewed, the kids told cops that their mom had been withdrawing blood with a syringe from the 9-year-old boy, who said it left him 'sick-sleepy.' The mom chatted with people online about needing help with end-of-life care for the boy. The children told investigators that their mom, from Crosslake, would make them vomit at doctors' appointments to appear sick. She would also beat them with charging cords, belts and spoons and threaten to withhold food and even kill them. If they disobeyed, she made them stand outside, naked. Throughout, Borders received Medicaid assistance as well as gifts and money from non-profit foundations for her children's fake illnesses. 'The medical issues in the children were created by her,' prosecutor Dominika Kins said at the sentencing hearing Thursday, according to the Brainerd Dispatch. 'She abused her position of authority,' said Kins. 'And she stripped [her children] of an actual childhood.' Borders was earlier convicted of attempted murder as well as child torture and theft by representation. 'The facts we proved in court are nothing short of horrifying,' said Ellison, the state attorney general. 'It strains the imagination and breaks my heart into pieces to think about the torture and anguish — physical, mental, and emotional — that Borders inflicted on her own children. I ask every Minnesotan to join me in praying for these children's healing.' The 9-year-old boy was placed in protective custody in May of 2022, according to the Dispatch. The other two children were removed from the home in July. Borders' parental rights to the three children have been terminated. Borders' own mom told the court in an impact statement that she'd been kept from seeing her grandkids, and felt relieved that she could finally see them.

Mom abuses her kids, fakes their diagnoses to get Medicaid money, MN cops say

A mother accused of abusing her children for more than five years exploited them to get Medicaid money, Minnesota authorities say. The 34-year-old Crosslake woman, who in June was found guilty on 11 charges, was sentenced Aug. 7 to 468 months in prison, Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison said in a news release. Ellison said the mother 'physically, verbally and emotionally abused her three children,' who were 11, 9 and 8 when their mom was arrested in 2022. 'She abused her position of authority,' prosecuting attorney Dominika Kins said in court, according to the Brainerd Dispatch. 'And she stripped them of an actual childhood.' According to a criminal complaint, the mom received more than $35,000 from the state of Minnesota for medical care for her 9-year-old, who was being treated for dropping hemoglobin levels. But an investigation revealed the numbers had deteriorated because his mom was withdrawing blood from him using a syringe and picc line, according to the court documents. She would then make the other two kids dump the blood in a toilet. She also faked diagnoses for her other two children, including making her 11-year-old wear a cast for more than two years, authorities said. 'Another child stated that (their mom) would instruct the child to vomit at the doctor even though he didn't need to, and to cough as if he had asthma, at which time asthma medication was prescribed,' the attorney general said. The mother was accused of having violent outbursts against her children, according to investigators, who said she choked each of them when their rooms weren't clean. 'When Defendant would do this to (the 8-year-old), she could barely breathe and felt like she was about to pass out,' authorities said. '(The child) said her head would start hurting, starts to race, she wouldn't be able to walk right, her vision was blurry, her breathing was 'not so good' and she coughed a lot after.' The children said their mom would often beat them with a spoon, charging cord or a belt, sometimes making them bleed, according to the court documents. Investigators said she would withhold food from her children and made death threats. 'I was never safe,' the 11-year-old child told authorities, according to the court records. The mother was found guilty in June of attempted murder, three counts of child torture, three counts of stalking and four counts of theft by false representation, the attorney general said. He referred to her alleged actions as among the most 'heinous and agonizing' crimes he has seen as the attorney general. 'The facts we proved in court are nothing short of horrifying,' Ellison said in June. 'It strains the imagination and breaks my heart into pieces to think about the torture and anguish — physical, mental, and emotional — that (she) inflicted on her own children.' Crosslake is about a 145-mile drive northwest from Minneapolis.

Driver named Patches Magickbeans high on mushrooms in crash that nearly killed construction worker: cops

A Wisconsin man named Patches Magickbeans seriously injured a worker when he crashed his van into a piece of construction equipment while allegedly high on magic mushrooms, cops said. Patches Magickbeans, 34, of Wisconsin, was 'swerving and weaving' on Highway 61 in Silver Creek, Minn. around 3:50 p.m. on June 19 when his van hit a curb and several traffic cones before barreling into a scissor lift which was being used by a pair of construction workers fixing a light. Patches Magickbeans was charged with two counts of criminal vehicular operation and one count of controlled substance crime in the 2nd degree. Obtained by The NY Post The vehicle then smashed into the wall of the Lafayette Tunnel and rolled several times before coming to a stop, court documents state. Advertisement Benjamin Kidd, 27, one of the workers atop the scissor lift during the crash, was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. He remains in critical condition, local outlet Northern News Now reported. Another worker using the lift, Bradley Kostiuk, 37, told cops he heard the sound of Magickbeans' van hitting the cones just in time to see the vehicle racing toward them. He quickly grabbed the lift's rail system to pull himself up and managed to hang on to the light fixture for dear life until police helped him down. Cops at the scene said Magickbeans appeared to be intoxicated after the crash, and that he was babbling incoherently and possibly hallucinating, grasping at objects in the air that were not actually there. Advertisement Court documents said his eyes were 'blown' and noted he 'became combative with rescue workers' attempting to get him out of the van. They later found psilocybin mushrooms in his car, which Magickbeans initially claimed he had foraged but later changed his story and admitted they were magic mushrooms. He allegedly said he 'had a small one the day before along with an edible,' though he insisted his blood test would come back negative for drugs. Magickbeans describes himself on Instagram as 'womb wisdom keeper.' Patches Magickbeans / Instagram Results of a blood test are still pending, the outlet said. He's being held at Lake County Jail on $75,000 bail, with his next court appearance scheduled for August. Magickbeans' Instagram page, where he describes himself as 'womb wisdom keeper,' features an image of him on the cover of the Brainerd Dispatch newspaper last July under the headline 'corn juggler' — a caption describing him as a 'fruit vendor' who juggles ears of corn from his roadside stand to 'catch attention of motorists on the roadway.'
