‘The worst has already happened, so now I have everything to gain': Meagan Good on love, loss, and empowering women in ‘Forever'
"You just have to open your heart and say, 'The worst has already happened, so now I have everything to gain.' Even if I get hurt again, it'll still be worth it — to live, to experience, to love," says Meagan Good, sharing one of the poignant takeaways she hopes viewers embrace from her Lifetime movie, Terry McMillan Presents: Forever. In the film, Good portrays Carlie, a resilient police officer, cancer survivor, and single mother of two who finds herself opening up to a second chance at love when she meets Johnnie, played by Taye Diggs. Johnnie, a military veteran. He falls deeply in love with Carlie, helping her rediscover the possibilities of connection and healing. More from GoldDerby 'Eureka Day' playwright Jonathan Spector talks vaccine debates, vicious comment sections, and 'the failure of a utopia' Breakout star Owen Cooper admits 'Adolescence' was 'very out of my comfort zone' Keanu Reeves gets his wings in 'Good Fortune' teaser, Taron Egerton sees 'Smoke,' and today's other top stories For Good, portraying Carlie was both meaningful and deeply personal. "My father was LAPD for 26 years," she shares. "I had recently gone through a divorce myself. I'm in a space now where I really want to be a mother. And then, ultimately, my uncle passed away from cancer." Having recently experienced her own new chapter of love with her husband, Jonathan Majors, Good found herself drawn to Carlie's journey. "I wanted to discover it with her," she explains. "There are parts of her story that I understand so intricately. I wanted to bring it to life in a way that empowers women, makes them feel strong and hopeful, and inspires them to believe in love again. To believe in everything life has to offer in every season — and to embrace it unapologetically." Reuniting with Diggs was also a perk. "I love Taye," Good says. "Taye and I did Kevin Hill years ago. I ended up playing the baby's mom on Kevin Hill when I was 24 years old. He's such a wonderful burst of light and energy — and an incredible actor. To be able to play with him and do all this heavy stuff — it's fun to do that with someone who has a very pure, optimistic, kind of childlike heart. At the same, Taye knows how to decompress and have a little fun." After Carlie recovers from cancer and Johnnie forms a close bond with her daughters, the police officer is fatally shot during a convenience store robbery. "It was shocking!" Good exclaims about reading the script. "I burst out crying. I wasn't expecting that. I'm not even watching this, I'm reading it!" "I just thought, life can often be like that," she continues. "We try to shy away from it because we don't want to think that way — we don't want to be afraid and we don't want to worry about it, but life does often happen in ways that we just don't anticipate. But what's important is, had she not said, 'You know what? I'm just going to try this love thing again,' she wouldn't have had someone to be by her side when she was going through her cancer diagnosis and ultimately beating it. She wouldn't have had the love, which turned out to be the greatest love in her entire life, before she passed." SEE Taye Diggs on getting his groove back in 'Forever': 'This role was very therapeutic for me' Good says her father, a veteran like Johnnie, had his own shocking reaction at the film's premiere. "My dad was in Vietnam," she shares. "After Vietnam he was a police officer. And we don't talk about Vietnam often, but I understood Johnnie's experience, because my dad, with PTSD and things that my mother would tell me — it deeply affected him. The one time I asked him about Vietnam he didn't say anything. He immediately choked up — and I'd never seen my dad cry before." "So, understanding Johnnie's story, I don't know why it didn't occur to me to warn my dad that was going to happen. It surprised him and I felt really bad about that. But I just realized how important it is to tell the truth in a story and to be as honest as possible because there's healing involved in that." Good, who also serves as a co-executive producer on Forever, says she has a clear vision for the kinds of films she wants to bring into the world. Collaborating with Terry McMillan, the acclaimed author of one of her all-time favorite movies, Waiting to Exhale, was an absolute thrill for her. "It was super powerful to see as a child," she recalls. "I grew up in Santa Clarita, where we were one of one Black family until probably junior high. And seeing [Waiting to Exhale], I remember thinking, 'Oh, these are women that look like me who are in all these different phases of life, who have all these different personalities, and different versions of what strength is. They're navigating life experiences that are unique in general to women, but also to women of color.' That film was mind-blowing to me. I had never seen anything like it. It helped shape me as a woman and the way I look at the world." Good also discusses her work on Prime Video's comedy series Harlem, her passion for directing, an upcoming collaboration with Tyler Perry, and her next film titled The Empty Nester. Harley-Davidson Breakout Review; Power And Presence Galore
If you pick up a dictionary and look for the meaning of 'Breakout', you will find that it means 'a forcible escape', say from a prison. Or it can mean something which found sudden and massive success. But the Harley-Davidson Breakout that you see here, well, the name suits it because it is an escape from traditional Harley design and so, a breakout. I rode this motorcycle for a few days and it is difficult to not fall in love with it, despite its obvious flaws. Harley-Davidson Breakout: Design Alright so, one of the biggest draws of owning any Harley-Davidson motorcycle is the way it looks. And the story is the same yet different with the Breakout. Same, because the kind of presence and visual appeal that this motorcycle has is unlike anything on the road. And why is it different because, the way the motorcycle looks is a huge departure from how other Harley Softail motorcycles look. The 21-inch front wheel, raked out front end, a custom-looking LED headlight, and tear-drop shaped fuel tank make for a distinct design. In the middle, down below, you have this vast expanse of gleaming chrome and the two-into-two exhaust, which just looks so heavy metal. At the rear you see the off-set number plate and the chopped fender which shows off that massive 240 section tyre in all its glory. The other highlight is the 'Heavy Breather' air filter which sticks out, but not like a sore thumb. The Harley-Davidson Breakout looks more like a custom motorcycle than a model that would have rolled off an assembly line. I absolutely love the way it looks. Harley-Davidson Breakout: Features Now the Breakout gets a decent set of features, which include ABS and traction control along with a small negative LCD screen mounted on the handlebar, which shows all the required info, although it is a bit difficult to read under bright sun. Harley-Davidson Breakout: Ergonomics Sitting on the motorcycle is quite easy, since the seat height is a scant 665 mm. You seat low and you reach out to the handlebar, which is nice and wide. The footpegs are placed forward like it is on a cruiser. But if you were to drag it out of a parking lot, you will need solid strength because it weighs in at 310 kg. But does it disappear on the move? We are about to find out. Harley-Davidson Breakout: Engine Specifications It gets a 1,923 cc V-Twin also called the Milwaukee-Eight 117, which refers to the cubic-inch capacity. The behemoth of an engine is air-cooled, and it makes about 102 hp at 5,020 rpm along with putting out a mind-blowing 168 Nm at a relatively low 3,500 rpm. To put that into perspective, the Tata Nexon petrol, with a 1.2-litre engine makes 170 Nm at up to 4,000 rpm. Harley-Davidson Breakout: Performance Riding the Breakout literally makes you feel like the king of tarmac. The motorcycle pulls like a freight train. The sheer ferocity with which the motorcycle accelerates is something that you need to experience in order to believe it. You do feel vibrations on the handlebar and the footpegs but there is nothing that feels overly intrusive, except the loose fuel filler cap, which was sort of annoying. Also, shifting gears feels like an occasion. The metallic clang, with which the gear slots, well, to me, it feels satisfying. And if cruising at triple digit speeds is something that you like, the Breakout can do that with relative ease. Harley-Davidson Breakout: Ride & Handling Despite its sheer size and weight, it is not like you will be left with a sour taste as far as dynamics is concerned. The suspension is surprisingly decent, more so than the current crop of 650 cc motorcycles from Royal Enfield, I daresay, and yes, the motorcycle does take some time to lean, but when it does, you will start scraping your footpegs within no time. And don't expect to change directions on a dime, of course. One also has to be careful while negotiating big bumps, because I did end up scraping the underbelly a couple of times. The ground clearance is hilariously low at 115 mm. Now, if you want to go long distances on the Breakout, you will have to be mindful of the windblast which will surely play spoilsport about a couple of hours into the ride, unless your backside is not protesting already and your fingers aren't feeling tired from the pulling in the heavy-set clutch lever. Harley-Davidson Breakout: Price and Rivals VO This is the 2024 model of the Breakout and it is priced at Rs. 31 lakh (ex-showroom). While the 2025 model is listed on the company website, the price is yet to be announced. Yes, the Breakout is definitely expensive considering that you can buy the Ducati Diavel V4 for Rs. 27.2 lakh and the Triumph Rocket 3 for Rs. 22 lakh, both being significantly cheaper. Harley-Davidson Breakout: Verdict Riding the Harley-Davidson Breakout is an event. It has exceptional street presence and incredible pose value. The best part is the happy 'king of the world' feeling that it offers when you ride it. Because you know that all eyes are going to be on you. If you are a Harley owner or plan to own one, the Breakout in particular, then all the inherent flaws and that hefty price tag won't make a difference to your purchase decision. Watch Josh Freese Rip a ‘Monkey Wrench' Solo at Last Public Gig With Foo Fighters
Josh Freese, the Foo Fighters drummer brought in to fill the vacancy left by the late Taylor Hawkins, revealed Friday, May 16, that he'd been let go from the band. Freese spent about two years with the group, much of that on the road as the Foos supported their 2023 album, But Here We Are. Freese's last proper show with the Foo Fighters came at the very end of the band's 2024 'Everything or Nothing at All Tour,' which wrapped Aug. 18 at T-Mobile Park in Seattle. Per usual, the setlist was packed with plenty of hits from throughout the Foo Fighters' catalog, and there were a few moments where Freese got to show off his chops. More from Rolling Stone Foo Fighters Part With Drummer Josh Freese Ed Sheeran Previews Collaboration With Dave Grohl, John Mayer Watch Dave Grohl Get Funky With LCD Soundsystem Cover His drumming propelled the band through the breakdown of their There Is Nothing Left to Lose track, 'Breakout.' But even bigger was the furious drum solo he unleashed at the end of the Foo Fighters' performance of their 1997 classic, 'Monkey Wrench.' While the Seattle gig was Reese's last public concert with the Foo Fighters, he did take the stage with them one more time. Per the band played a private party for businessman and Anaheim Ducks owner, Henry Samueli, on Sept. 6 at the House of Blues in Anaheim (the party was referred to as 'Henrypalooza'). Unsurprisingly, there aren't a ton of videos online from the gig, but one clip finds the Foo Fighters covering a bit of Metallica's 'Enter Sandman,' while another features a snippet of the band's rendition of 'Best of You.' Freese actually would have played one more show with the Foo Fighters later that month at the Soundside Music Festival in Bridgeport, Connecticut, but the band ended up canceling their headlining set. This decision was made not long after Dave Grohl revealed that he had fathered a child outside of his marriage. In announcing his departure, Freese said the Foo Fighters had told him they were going 'in a different direction with their drummer.' The drummer said that 'No reason was given, adding: 'Regardless, I enjoyed the past two years with them, both on and off stage, and I support whatever they feel is best for the band. In my 40 years of drumming professionally, I've never been let go from a band, so while I'm not angry — just a bit shocked and disappointed.' A rep for the Foo Fighters declined to comment further. The rules and scoring system are super easy to learn, too, so there wasn't a big hurdle getting everyone on board. I highly recommend for some good, wholesome, often laugh out loud party fun! And I highly recommend the sitting techniques in the DVD as well as the meditation." — blightheavy Get it from Amazon for $29.98. 21. You keep playing until someone comes in possession of all the cards (or until you all start craving tacos and pizza so much you drive yourselves to the nearest combination Pizza Hut and Taco Bell).
