Tennessee Titans make a surprising roster move

The Tennessee Titans took advantage of their waiver wire priority and made another addition to their linebacker room, and in the process made a shocking move to make room for their new addition. The Titans claimed linebacker Brian Asamoah off waivers from the Minnesota Vikings after the former third-round pick was waived on Monday. Asamoah has been mostly a special teams performer since being drafted in 2022, seeing a total of 188 defensive snaps while racking up over 800 on special teams over 46 NFL games. Asomoah played 23 defensive snaps and six on special teams in the Vikings' preseason opener Saturday. To make room for Asamoah, the Titans made a surprising move and waived veteran inside linebacker Otis Reese IV. It's quite a fall for Reese, who opened the offseason with the inside track on the starting linebacker position next to Cody Barton. Reese, who sat out Saturday's preseason opener against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, appeared to have been jumped on the depth chart by both James Williams and Cedric Gray, and will now be subject to the waiver process. Reese is the second player the Titans re-signed at the start of the offseason to be released during training camp. Tennessee also waived Keondre Coburn, who inked a deal at the same time as Reese in March. This article originally appeared on Titans Wire: Tennessee Titans claim Brian Asamoah, waive Otis Reese IV

Former Vikings Draft Pick At Risk of Getting Cut?

Minnesota Vikings general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah is in his fourth season with the team. While he's taken a lot of heat for past decisions, KAM has learned a lot along the way. Like everyone given a chance to make decisions, as he'll admit, Mensah has been learning from his mistakes. This year's Vikings roster may be the best one he's built yet. Heck, if J.J. McCarthy pans out early on, this could be the best roster in Vikings history. Yet, that also means he'll inevitably have to make some tough calls along the way, like when trimming the 90-man roster down to 53 players. In this case, it could mean cutting or trading players that Mensah previously thought would be a perfect fit for the team. Brian Asamoah may not have a role for Minnesota Vikings According to The Athletic's local Vikings expert Alec Lewis, rookie sixth-round pick Kobe King is already ahead of Asamoah on the linebacker depth chart. As a result, Asamoah's likely looking at getting cut or traded before the regular season gets underway. 'Rookie linebacker Kobe King has taken snaps alongside Eric Wilson with the No. 2 defense. Where that leaves Brian Asamoah II, who is in the final year of his rookie contract, is a fair question.' The Athletic on Brian Asamoah Being that Asamoah has only contributed a grand total of 30 tackles across three seasons, the Vikings won't be missing much if they decide to move on. Still just 25 years old, it's possible Asamoah figures it all out in the near future. The Vikings could opt to hold onto him for another season, hoping he taps into the potential that got him drafted. Yet, he's also in the final year of his rookie contract. So if the Vikings don't expect Asamoah to be a regular contributor at any point in the upcoming season, then there's no point in holding onto him any longer. If a team is willing to offer a sixth or seventh-round pick, then that would be considered a bonus at this point. Related: Otherwise, why not stick with a younger player with upside, like King, the 201st overall pick in April's draft? As we've seen with other players like former sixth-round pick Josh Metellus, you just never know what young players will develop into with a few years of coaching.
