Before becoming an actor George Clooney tried to pursue a professional baseball career at the age of 16 and showed off his skills in New York City 's Central Park on Thursday. Clooney, 63, brought his Hollywood charm to the Broadway League Softball Game on dressed in a dark baseball cap, a navy polo-shirt and gray shorts. Clooney's surprise appearance came just hours after he received his first Tony nomination for his debut Broadway role in Good Night, and Good Luck. The actor attended trials for his hometown team Cincinnati Reds twice in 1977 but failed to win a contract after he toppled backwards while trying to escape a fast-moving ball hurtling towards his head. In December 2023, Clooney said: 'He throws an 82 mile an hour curveball at my head. I literally fell backwards, and the ball ended up on the outside part of the plate, and everybody laughed. 'I just lacked skill. I had everything else. I had a good hat, I had a good uniform. I just lacked the ability to play the game.'
