George Clooney shows off his childhood baseball skills in NYC's Central park
Before becoming an actor George Clooney tried to pursue a professional baseball career at the age of 16 and showed off his skills in New York City 's Central Park on Thursday.
Clooney, 63, brought his Hollywood charm to the Broadway League Softball Game on dressed in a dark baseball cap, a navy polo-shirt and gray shorts.
Clooney's surprise appearance came just hours after he received his first Tony nomination for his debut Broadway role in Good Night, and Good Luck.
The actor attended trials for his hometown team Cincinnati Reds twice in 1977 but failed to win a contract after he toppled backwards while trying to escape a fast-moving ball hurtling towards his head.
In December 2023, Clooney said: 'He throws an 82 mile an hour curveball at my head. I literally fell backwards, and the ball ended up on the outside part of the plate, and everybody laughed.
'I just lacked skill. I had everything else. I had a good hat, I had a good uniform. I just lacked the ability to play the game.'

Nicole Scherzinger reveals major update on wedding to Scots rugby star and praises his 'patience'
Nicole Scherzinger, who is finishing her Broadway run, has detailed when she and Thom Evans will tie the knot Nicole Scherzinger has revealed a major wedding update as she prepares to tie the knot with Scots rugby star Thom Evans. The former lead singer of Pussycat Dolls is finishing her acclaimed run in the Broadway hit Sunset Boulevard. The musical's demanding run, which is nearly two years long, has delayed the couple's 'I do's,' but the pop sensation has now confirmed that the pair are set to say their vows in her native Hawaii "soon" after the musical wraps up. The curtain will fall for the final time at St James Theatre in New York on July 20. Fresh off her potential Tony Awards triumph for Best Actress on Sunday (June 8), Nicole praised Thom's "patience" since she has turned into a "hermit". "We're engaged to be married when I'm not working. Thank God he is so patient. "We'll get married back home in Hawaii where my family is from." She went on: "I live like a hermit, I try not to do much. I still take my meetings and do work that I have to do. "I just try to rest when I can. I'm not much of a sleeper. I've never been. But I've had to be disciplined to make sure I get six to eight hours, because my voice is my everything.. I leave my soul and my voice out there on the stage." The Don't Cha singer laughed off any insinuations that she poached the 40-year-old hunk during his time on UK reality TV, insisting: "It was on Celebrity X Factor, I'm not gross, okay. I met him on that and I saved him so he had to come back. We had actually auditioned them in the summer and we didn't meet face-to-face until the winter. "We've been together ever since." The songstress previously told Sunday Times Culture that the couple's nuptials will be conducted by her grandfather in Hawaii before a reception in Europe "The reception will be somewhere in Europe," she said. Beyond that, I haven't even thought about anything." Nicole added that following their marriage, the pair will keep their main base in Britain. "We travel a lot, and I like that," she explained. "I'm an adopted Brit." It comes after Thom admitted that he didn't think he had a chance with the songstress at first, but plucked up the courage to ask her out and the rest is history. The former Scottish international rugby union player credits his grandmother with helping him, as her motto was always 'if you don't ask, you don't get.' Nicole and Thom, who also played for Glasgow Warriors, have been together since meeting on the celebrity version of The X Factor when Nicole, 46, was a judge and Thom, 40, tried his hand at singing on the ITV reality show. The sportsman got down on one knee during a trip to Vila Nova de Gaia in Portugal in June 2023. Nicole shared a picture of the couple on a beach with her hands clasped around her mouth in shock as Thom held out a ring box. Thom had to retire from rugby at the age of 24 after suffering a serious neck injury playing for Scotland against Wales in Cardiff. Meanwhile, Nicole shot to fame as the lead singer of the Dolls in 2003, achieving massive hits, tours, and endorsements until their split in 2010. Despite some solo success, a planned 2019 reunion tour and third album were derailed by legal issues and internal disputes. Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! Singer Casey Donovan reveals that her career has 'taken a toll' on her mental and physical health
Casey Donovan has opened up about the tremendous toll her busy work schedule has had on her mind and body. The 37-year-old, who soared to fame after winning Australian Idol in 2004, said that the last six years have been so frantic for her its left a 'mark' on her mental health and physical health. Casey, who is planning a wedding with fiancée Renee Sharples, has kept up a frantic pace since 2021, including starring in the musicals 9 to 5, & Juliet, and Sister Act. 'I haven't really stopped in the last six to seven years,' she told Stellar Magazine on Saturday. 'I've just kind of jumped from show to show to show. I've done the eight shows a week. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. 'It certainly does take its toll on your body and your mental health, but I don't take this for granted. I've very grateful. 'Because I know what it is like to have everything stop, and what it is like to never stop.' Elsewhere in the chat the star appeared surprised by her continuing success. 'I never looked into the future and saw where I would be today,' Donovan tells Stellar. 'It's a really beautiful thing.' Casey, meanwhile, is not taking any time off and is currently getting set to appear in the Broadway success Kimberly Akimbo. First performed in the US in 2001, the Australian version is currently in rehearsal and will premiere in Adelaide before a season in Melbourne in July. It comes after Casey recently opened up about her upcoming wedding to fiancée Renee Sharples after announcing her engagement to her long-time partner in June last year. During an appearance on The Project, Casey gave an insight into how the planning of the nuptials is progressing. Appearing on the beleaguered Channel Ten show to promote her upcoming musical Kimberley Akimbo, it wasn't too long before Casey was pressed on details for the big day. 'We keep chatting about it and we're like: "do we have something big? Do We have something small?" she said. 'Do we just run away and do it ourselves and then throw a party? Which I haven't told Renee, I'm so sorry,' she said to her fiancée down the camera. Casey revealed that she and Renee were planning to tie the knot in June last year. It's certainly been a busy time for Casey who has recently starred in successful runs of musicals & Juliet and Sister Act. She also recently partnered with weight loss program Juniper to help to achieve her fitness goals. 'I've kind of been on, I guess, my own little journey through health and fitness in the last few months when they approached [me],' Casey told Daily Mail Australia in April. She added that, with medication already a part of her weight loss regimen, she was looking for some extra help and direction. 'I kind of I sat with it and being already that I was already on a form of medication, I was kind of at that point where I needed that extra bit of help, she said. 'It kind of came at the perfect time, because I was trying to just bumble through life with all the other things that I knew that I picked up from other weight loss programs. Just kind of fumbling my way through.'

Nicole Scherzinger reveals she's ready to say 'I do' to Thom Evans two years after he popped the question
Nicole Scherzinger has revealed she is ready to tie the knot with fiance Thom Evans after her Broadway show ends on July 20. The singer, 46, is currently starring in Andrew Lloyd Webber's Sunset Boulevard musical and was nominated for Best Leading Actress at this year's Tony Awards for her role as Norma Desmond. When asked if she would walk down the aisle soon, Nicole said: 'Yes, we will get married. We're engaged to be married when I'm not working. Thank God he is so patient. I've had to be disciplined to make sure I get six to eight hours [sleep] because my voice is my everything so I kind of live like a hermit. I don't do much, I just drink a lot of water.' Nicole first met ex-Glasgow Warriors rugby league player Thom when she was a judge on a celebrity edition of the X Factor in 2019 - and they soon hit it off. In 2022, a friend of the couple told The Daily Mail's Richard Eden that the pair would definitely be getting married, with Thom knowing Nicole was 'the one' since they met. Thom previously said: 'Within the first couple of days with Nicole it was just awesome, and it has been awesome ever since.' In 2021, Thom opened up on his relationship with Nicole, telling how he was 'massively punching above my weight!' and exclaimed: 'I've hit the jackpot'. Speaking to The Sun, Thom said: 'Nobody is asking Nicole how she got with me because I'm massively punching (above my weight). She's so easy and fun to be around. I've hit the jackpot.' 'It wasn't even in my thought process to try it on with Nicole because it would have been unprofessional and she's so lovely and stunning in every possible way. I was just like, "She's out of my league". The former Scottish international rugby union player went on to say that it was his grandmother who inspired him to 'pluck up the courage' and talk to Nicole as he recalled her motto: 'If you don't ask, you don't get'. Thom reflected that he rejected the idea of sliding into the pop star's DMs as he didn't think it was the 'done thing' and would be 'awkward', but instead felt it was right to have an old fashioned face-to-face conversation. He added that he was 'really grateful' that their relationship began 'naturally' during their 'intimate first meeting', insisting that he's 'never looked back'.
