Thieves steal $30k worth of vital equipment from Feeding South Florida. How to help
Feeding South Florida, a food bank that aids millions of food-insecure residents, is asking for the community's help finding vital kitchen equipment worth thousands of dollars and bringing the men responsible to justice. Around 4:30 p.m. Sunday, at least two men burglarized Feeding South Florida's Pembroke Park warehouse, running off with two mobile teaching kitchens valued at $15,000 each, the food bank said. The thieves chose the one day a week when the warehouse is closed. Evan Ross, a spokesperson for Pembroke Park Police, said authorities are in the early stages of investigating the burglary and are combing through surveillance footage, which showed two thieves taking the equipment. The food bank uses the portable teaching kitchens to perform hands-on cooking demonstrations directly to families it serves, teaching culinary skills and the importance of healthy food choices. Feeding South Florida emphasized the burglary could not come at a worse time, as there are about 2.1 million South Floridians who face food insecurities. Pembroke Park Police are asking anyone with information on the burglary to call the department at (954)- 764-4357 or call Broward CrimeStoppers at 954-493-8477.

Caught on video: Children pull off 11-second heist at Fort Lauderdale electronics store, police say
Fort Lauderdale police are investigating after they said a group of young thieves executed a swift smash-and-grab at an electronics repair store early Thursday morning, making off with thousands of dollars in stolen devices in just 11 seconds. Surveillance video from Techy Repair on Las Olas Boulevard shows three children racing into the store after one of them threw a brick through the front window around 1 a.m. The masked burglars quickly grabbed high-end electronics before fleeing. Store owner Yovany Herrera believes the kids had carefully planned the heist. A week earlier, they had visited the shop, asking about the most expensive devices while he was charging their phones. "They ask if I have iPhone 15, iPhone 16, ask for the most expensive devices and check the position of the expensive devices," Herrera said. When he asked them to leave and locked the door, surveillance video captured them trying to force their way back in as he returned their phone. Under investigation Now, police are investigating whether the young burglars were acting alone or as part of a larger crime ring. Police said an estimated $9,000 worth of electronics were taken from the store. "For me, it's tough," Herrera said. "When I see one kid, 10 years old, a little kid… this is the future for these people." Fort Lauderdale police are asking anyone with information to contact Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.

Family seeks justice in deadly hit-and-run that took 80-year-old mom, wife in Oakland Park
OAKLAND PARK - Two weeks after an 80-year-old woman was killed in a hit-and-run just a block from her home, her family is pleading for answers. Barbara Price was crossing Powerline Road north of Oakland Park Boulevard around 7:45 p.m. on Jan. 29 when a light blue Land Rover, built between 2005 and 2009, struck her and kept going. Broward Sheriff's Office investigators recovered pieces of a turn signal cover, a fog light and paint chips, but the driver remains unidentified. Her son, Joel Ragland, traveled from Chicago to care for his stepfather, Gary Price, who suffers from dementia and to make a public appeal for information. "We are all accountable. It's unfortunate they left the scene. We as a family forgive them, but you have to deal with the law now," Ragland said. Detective Michael Wiley, who is leading the investigation, said evidence suggests the driver may not have seen Price before impact. The tragedy has left Price's husband without his primary caregiver. With his mother gone, Ragland is now searching for an assisted living facility that can provide the round-the-clock care his stepfather needs. "She loved this man, fully expected to take care of him till he died," Ragland said. Authorities are asking anyone with information to contact Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
