Lille sign free agent Arnaud Bodart as back-up goalkeeper
Lille OSC have announced the signing of former Standard Liege goalkeeper Arnaud Bodart (27). Bodart was a free agent after spending the second half of the last Ligue 2 campaign at FC Metz, which have been promoted to Ligue 1 after defeating Reims in the promotion play-offs. Bodart has signed a two-year deal with Bruno Genesio's Les Dogues. Lille were in the market for an understudy to France international Lucas Chevalier – who has leapfrogged Rennes' Brice Samba in the hierarchy of France goalies – considering Vito Mannone left the club upon the expiry of his contract. Bodart, who has already been called up to play for Belgium's national team, will wear the No. 1 jersey with the Ligue 1 side. GFFN | Bastien Cheval

Olivier Giroud linked with surprise move to Lille
Ligue 1 giants Lille OSC are considering a summer move for former French striker Olivier Giroud, according to L'Equipe. Les Dogues are looking for a replacement for Jonathan David, who has left the club as a free agent. Advertisement They have identified Los Angeles FC's Giroud as a dream target. The French giants have initiated talks with the 38-year-old over a potential return to his homeland after nearly 12 years since his spell at Montpellier. Following a three-year stint at AC Milan, during which he played a key role in the 2021/22 Serie A triumph, Giroud completed his switch to Major League Soccer last year. However, the legendary Arsenal star has struggled to make his mark in the United States, managing only three goals and two assists in 18 games for LAFC. Lille could struggle to sign Giroud, whose deal with LAFC runs until December with an option for another year. His €3 million wages are also beyond the French club's threshold. Advertisement They have a big task of filling the void of David, who has made a tremendous impact at the club over the years. The Canadian has maintained a remarkable scoring rate with each season and finding a player of his calibre wouldn't be easy. Ideally, Lille should focus on young talents who can be part of long-term plans rather than stop-gap signings like Giroud. Lille have been playing an exciting brand of football under manager Bruno Genesio, with a huge talent pool. Les Dogues also hold a reputation for spotting the best talents and bringing them to the spotlight. They should stick to the strategy in this transfer window to sustain their success on the pitch. Lille have recently signed Norwegian prodigy Marius Broholm on a five-year deal from Rosenberg. More reinforcements are expected as Lille prepare for the Europa League next season.

Lille president confirms Bruno Genesio's position
Lille OSC fans can rest easy knowing their popular manager will return next season. Club president Olivier Létang confirmed that Bruno Genesio would remain in his post, telling L'Équipe, 'Bruno is under contract. We're very happy. He will be our coach next season.' Lille ended the 2024-25 Ligue 1 campaign fifth in the table, one place below where they wound up finishing in the previous campaign but claiming one more point this time around. Even though he's under contract with Les Dogues until 2026, it wasn't a certainty that he'd return for the 2025-26 season. Advertisement Génésio helped them reach the last 16 of the UEFA Champions League, but his side missed a chance at the quarter-finals. They squandered an early one-goal advantage in the second leg against Borussia Dortmund in a 2-1 defeat, losing that tie 3-2 on aggregate. Their top goal scorer, Jonathan David (25), along with Angel Gomes (24), Samuel Umtiti (31), and Rémy Cabella (35), will be among those leaving in the summer. While they will be in the UEFA Europa League next season, Lille finished outside a Champions League qualification place on goal difference to OGC Nice. The 58-year-old replaced Paulo Fonseca as Lille's manager in June 2024 signing a two-year contract. Prior to his appointment, he'd been out of coaching for over six months after being sacked by Stade Rennais in November 2023. GFFN | Joel Lefevre

Benjamin André opens door to Lille exit
It was always going to be a summer of change at Lille OSC. However, there could be even more departures than initially thought. Benjamin André (34), the club captain, has now opened the door to a potential summer exit. Many players have run down their contracts at Lille. Jonathan David will be the most high-profile departure, but the likes of Angel Gomes, Rémy Cabella, and Samuel Umtiti will also leave on free transfers. Edon Zhegrova, who wanted to leave LOSC last summer before being convinced to stay, will also be allowed to leave the club this time around. There is also the question of the managerial situation. As reported by L'Équipe on Saturday night, Bruno Genesio could leave the club amid frustration with the internal workings of the club and the management of contract situations. André's contract situation is also a topic. His current deal expires at the end of next season, however, he could yet depart this summer, too. 'Of course, we'll sit down and talk, because there is the age, the risk of being at the end of a cycle at a moment in time. Lots of players that have been here to a while are leaving, it feels like a page is turning. We'll sit down and see what don't parties want to do,' began André, the subject of interest from Qatar last summer. During his mixed zone interview, he added, 'I want to play, to have fun. I train as if I were 20 years old and I will always do that, no matter what happens.' GFFN | Luke Entwistle

Bruno Genesio could leave Lille
It has been a season of highs and lows at Lille OSC. There were the results in the UEFA Champions League 'League Phase', notably the win against Real Madrid, that was a particular high point. However, there were lows too, such as the defeat to Borussia Dortmund, which saw them exit from the competition. It is also a season that ends without qualification for next season's Champions League. Despite a win on the final day of the season, OGC Nice's victory over Stade Brestois means that LOSC only finished fifth. They will therefore play in the Europa League next season. Advertisement Whether Bruno Genesio will be on the sidelines is another question entirely, with L'Équipe casting doubt over his future. The former Stade Rennais manager arrived last summer, replacing Paulo Fonseca. L'Équipe understands that he doesn't have an 'ideal' professional relationship with president Olivier Létang. There is also frustration about the transfer window dealings and the management of contract situations. Chuba Akpom was the only arrival in January, whilst Jonathan David, Angel Gomes, Rémy Cabella, and Samuel Umtiti will all leave on free transfers. Unconsulted in the recruitment process, Genesio could exit Lille before the start of the next campaign. In order to remain, there needs to a clarification of the internal workings of the club.
