WATCH: Ohio State football captains phone their parents to break the news
The Ohio State football team announced its four captains for the 2025 season, and it is quite the honor because they were chosen by the players themselves. It was no doubt some exciting news, but it didn't stop there. After the news dropped, each of the four players was able to call their parents and break the news before Buckeye Nation found out. The Ohio State creative team shared each of those four phone calls, and it's the type of content that will make you think about the pride you have for your own sons or daughters. Watch as Austin Sierevold, Caleb Downs, Brandon Inniss, and Sonny Styles take turns breaking the news to their parents that they are one of four captains for Ohio State during the 2025 season. If this doesn't make you swell up with pride and have a little tear in your eye, I don't know what planet you are from. These for captains will lead the team out on the field when the season starts on Aug. 30 vs. No. 1 Texas Longhorns. WATCH: Ohio State defensive coordinator Matt Patricia gets mic'd up at practice
It's a year of a lot of new faces for the Ohio State football team in 2025. Not only did the program lose 15 players to the NFL, but it'll also be ushering in a new offensive and defensive coordinator. On the defensive side of the ball, the guy responsible for the culture there will now be former New England Patriots defensive coordinator and Detroit Lions head coach Matt Patricia. Most of Buckeye Nation has yet to really get to know Patricia other than a few sound bites and comments made during some of the media opportunities, so there's plenty to still learn. To help you get to know one of the new guys on the block, the Ohio State football creative team mic'd him up so you can get a feel for his personality and how he interacts with the players. He has drawn rave reviews so far this year from the coaching staff and players alike, and maybe you too can see why by watching and listening below. Receiving high praise before the season is one thing, and a great start, but it'll mean nothing if the defense doesn't perform in 2025. Something tells me the Buckeyes will be just fine.

Ohio State football coach Ryan Day discusses his purpose for coaching
Coaching is more than X's and O's, especially in big-time college football. You don't have to tell Ohio State football head coach Ryan Day that, he's been in the job now entering his seventh year, and has seen a lot of changes, been criticized mightily, and come out the other side as a College Football Playoff national champion. Along the way, he's put in place programs on and off the field to help his players, especially as an advocate for mental illness and embracing social justice causes. It's a lot, and there are a lot of sacrifices that come along with the job that can grind on anyone. So, with all of that in mind, why would anyone get into coaching, aside from the multi-million dollar paycheck that can happen to the elite? According to Day, while appearing on the Bobby Carpenter show, it's not about him, but the kids in the program. "Where do you find your purpose? And to me, and our staff, it has to be pouring into young people," Day said ... "We're helping young people reach their dreams and goals. We're standing on the stage (after winning the national championship), it had nothing to do with me, it had to do with everybody else, because it took everybody ... it took former players, it took everybody that was flying across the country. It took everybody at home that were sending good vibes through the TV -- it was everybody that helped in recruiting -- everybody involved because it comes down to helping these young people reach their dreams and goals, and that's why you get into coaching." It's hard to argue with that, and one of the things I respect the most about Day is how he took the high road on all the criticism and vitriol he received from fans and the media over the last few years. Now that he's brought home the ultimate prize -- something many said he'd never do -- maybe those things he does off the field will get even more attention. It's instances like these where Buckeye Nation should be thankful for who it has running the program right now. More former Ohio State basketball players have message for Buckeye Nation at 'Vet Camp'
If you've been paying attention over the last couple of days, you probably know that the Ohio State basketball program is currently in the middle of its "Vet Camp," where former OSU players come back to be around the current roster to provide some teaching and fellowship. It's just another part of being in the Buckeye family and something that current head coach Jake Diebler is also embracing to assist in building the program back to where it belongs. On Monday, we heard from the likes of D'Angelo Russell and Greg Oden, who took to social media to express their excitement for the upcoming season and thankfulness for being back in Columbus as an extension of the team. Advertisement There are more guys that continue to find their way back to the banks of the Olentangy this week, and we heard from more of them on Tuesday thanks to the Ohio State Hoops "X" account. Hear from all-time fan favorite Aaron Craft, along with Keyshawn Woods, William Buford, Scoonie Penn, and Keita Bates-Diop as they talk to Buckeye Nation about their excitement for what's to come this season. It's an important year for the Ohio State basketball program and head coach Jake Diebler. The team has to put together a bounce-back, momentum-building season to start to get the program back where it should be as one of the Big Ten's best, and more. Let's hope the former players' excitement and optimism carry over to the 2025-2026 season.
