Eric Bieniemy, Chris Hudson named to 2026 College Football Hall of Fame ballot
Eric Bieniemy, Chris Hudson named to 2026 College Football Hall of Fame ballot Many Colorado football fans hope Deion Sanders is ushering in a new golden age of Colorado football. Still, before the current era under Coach Prime began, there were the Colorado teams of the early 1990s. On Monday, the golden era of CU football was honored with Eric Bieniemy and Chris Hudson being named to the 2026 College Football Hall of Fame ballot. Bieniemy, Colorado's all-time leading rusher, was the driving force behind the Buffaloes' 1990 national championship. That season, he earned a unanimous first-team All-American and finished third in the Heisman Trophy voting. Bieniemy still owns eight school records and was a two-time All-Big Eight selection. Chris Hudson, a cornerstone piece of Colorado's defense in the early 1990s, was a consensus first-team All-American in 1994 and won the Jim Thorpe Award as the nation's top defensive back. Hudson finished his college career with 141 tackles, 15 interceptions (two returned for touchdowns) and 20 pass breakups. Their nominations continue a proud tradition for Colorado, which has seen recent inductees such as Deon Figures (2025), Rashaan Salaam (2022) and Michael Westbrook (2020). The 2026 Hall of Fame class will be officially inducted during the 68th NFF Annual Awards Dinner in December. Follow Charlie Strella on X, Threads and Instagram. Colorado football secures commitment from former UCLA offensive lineman
Colorado football secures commitment from former UCLA offensive lineman Just two days after bringing in Walker Andersen on a visit and extending an offer, Colorado landed a commitment from the promising young player on Saturday. A former UCLA Bruin and native of the Los Angeles area, Andersen is a 6-foot-8 versatile offensive lineman. While Andersen is primarily a guard, he can move out to tackle if necessary, using his 82-inch wingspan to control defensive linemen at the line of scrimmage. Andersen didn't appear in a game for the Bruins last season, using up his redshirt season, so he'll head to Boulder with four years of eligibility remaining. Not a projected starter this season, but judging by his commitment announcement, Andersen appears devoted to improving his game. Before receiving his offer from the Buffaloes, Andersen received only one offer from another FBS school, the former FCS program the Missouri State Bears, with all his other offers being from FCS schools. He was unrated by 247 Sports coming out of high school and in the transfer portal. Andersen is the fourth addition to the Buffaloes' offensive line room in the spring transfer portal window. Colorado added Andre Roye Jr. from Maryland, Larry Johnson III from Tennessee and Xavier Hill from Memphis, reaffirming head coach Deion Sanders' commitment to building up the Buffaloes' offensive line. Shedeur Sanders not emerging as Browns' QB1, per report
Colorado fans have been laser-focused on the rise of Shedeur Sanders, the face of the Buffaloes' revival. But as the former Buff gears up for his NFL debut in Cleveland, it's not his name topping the depth chart—yet. Instead, it's Kenny Pickett, the 26-year-old quarterback with something to prove, who's taking the early lead in Cleveland's high-stakes QB battle. Advertisement According to long-time Browns insider Mary Kay Cabot of Pickett enters organized team activities as the 'frontrunner to win the starting job at the outset.' She added, 'He'll take the initial first-team reps in OTAs and probably the mandatory minicamp, and it seems like it's his job to try to keep for now.' Pickett's 2024 season with the Philadelphia Eagles was limited but steady. He completed 59.5% of his passes in five appearances, tossing for 291 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception. While those numbers don't scream superstar, they represent stability—something the Browns have sorely lacked under center. Deshaun Watson's time in Cleveland appears to be nearing its end after inconsistent performances and ongoing durability concerns. Joe Flacco, while a veteran presence, is likely a backup plan. And though both Shedeur Sanders and Dillon Gabriel offer potential, Cabot's report confirms the coaching staff isn't rushing either rookie into the spotlight—yet. Head coach Kevin Stefanski made it clear this offseason is about finding the long-term answer at quarterback. That leaves the door wide open for a midseason shakeup—especially if Pickett stumbles. Advertisement For Buffs fans watching from Boulder, the takeaway is simple: Shedeur may not be QB1 just yet, but this competition is just heating up. And if Pickett can't hold the lead, No. 2 might be a short stop on Sanders' path to the top. Colorado football offers 2026 4-star quarterback, current Michigan State commit
Colorado football offers 2026 4-star quarterback, current Michigan State commit While Colorado is in the midst of a quarterback battle for the 2025 season, Deion Sanders is making a play to secure the future of the Buffaloes' quarterback depth in 2026. The Buffaloes offered 4-star quarterback Kayd Coffman, who is committed to Michigan State. In his junior season, Coffman took his high school, East Kentwood (Mich.), to a playoff appearance while completing 56% of his passes. The Grand Rapids native is known for a strong arm and making accurate long throws off balance, throwing for 12 touchdowns and 1,600 yards last season. Coffman isn't the most athletic quarterback but can still use his legs when needed. Coffman has offers from Cincinnati and Iowa State, fellow Big 12 schools. However, according to 247Sports, Colorado is the only school that has sent an offer since his commitment to Michigan State on Feb. 7. If the Buffaloes can't flip Coffman away from his hometown school, the future of their quarterback room remains in good hands. Colorado brought in 5-star phenom Julian Lewis last offseason, and the young quarterback showed flashes of his immense potential in the spring game. Colorado CB Colton Hood transferring to Tennessee
May 2 - Former Colorado cornerback Colton Hood announced on Friday that he is transferring to Tennessee. Hood had been expected to take over for Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter in the Buffaloes' secondary. He had 24 tackles and two interceptions in 13 games in his lone season playing for coach Deion Sanders in 2024. Hood, a native of Georgia, played his freshman season at Auburn, appearing in four games in 2023. Hood told Friday that he liked the "culture and history" at Tennessee and the "genuineness" of Volunteers head coach Josh Heupel. "They basically said I can come in and play and be a big factor of what they got going on immediately," Hood said. "So I think that's big, too." He also said he is excited to play closer to home and test his skills against Southeastern Conference opponents. "That's really big because I was just at Colorado, which is really far, really, really far from home," Hood said. "So being able to come closer to home is big for myself. "It is appealing going against the best. I pride myself on competitiveness, so that is very appealing." Coming off a 10-3 season, Tennessee kicks off the 2025 campaign against Syracuse on Aug. 30 in Atlanta.
