No security incidents during 46th Asean Summit, says Bukit Aman

KUALA LUMPUR: The 46th Asean Summit and Related Meetings, held from May 22 until May 27 in the capital, concluded smoothly without any security incidents. Bukit Aman Internal Security and Public Order deputy director (operations) Deputy Comm MV Sri Kumar said the smooth security arrangements for all heads of state, delegations, and staff were made possible through the close cooperation of all parties, particularly the Foreign Ministry and other relevant agencies. 'The movement of heads of state and delegations to and from the conference venue went according to plan. Security arrangements for all parties throughout the summit were also well-executed,' he said when contacted Wednesday (May 28). He added that the phased road closures around hotels accommodating the delegations and the conference venue were implemented smoothly, with strong cooperation from the public. Media previously reported that nearly 6,200 PDRM officers and personnel were deployed during the summit period to ensure comprehensive security coverage. The phased road closures, which began on May 23, involved six highways and 25 main roads across the Klang Valley to facilitate the safe and efficient movement of delegations. The 46th Asean Summit was held under Malaysia's 2025 chairmanship, themed "Inclusion and Sustainability". - Bernama

Dry run ahead of summit

KUALA LUMPUR: A long convoy of vehicles was the subject of public attention as it made its way to the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre. The convoy literally stopped traffic as it headed towards the city centre. These cars were part of a security simulation exercise carried out by the police in preparation for the 46th Asean Summit and Related Summits which Malaysia, as Asean Chair, is hosting. The simulation, involving the convoy of vehicles of the delegation and country leaders, was conducted based on the actual movement schedule. Bukit Aman Internal Security and Public Order (operations) deputy director Deputy Comm MV Sri Kumar said in addition to route control, personnel are also tasked with monitoring movement and overseeing security preparations. "This includes the use of metal detectors and facial recognition technology,' he said during the exercise. More than 6,200 officers and personnel have been assigned for duty throughout the summit. DCP Sri Kumar urged the public to cooperate fully with authorities. "We are only implementing phased road closures for a week to ensure the smooth running and safety of the event,' he said. He also advised the public to avoid unnecessary travel, particularly in and around the capital during this period. The 46th Asean Summit will begin with senior officials' meetings tomorrow, followed by ministerial-level meetings on May 25, while the leaders' summit will commence on May 26. In conjunction with the summit, six highways and 25 major roads in the capital will be closed or diverted in stages to facilitate smooth traffic flow and ensure the security of the event.
