Review: Black Mirror back to its best in season 7
* Warning: There are spoilers in this article if you have not seen Black Mirror season seven * Black Mirror returns to its brilliant best in season seven with themes such as the dangers of AI, irresponsible billionaires and forbidden romance prevalent. The genius of Charlie Brooker's storytelling is that so many episodes of Black Mirror feel all too real in the modern world, and things like the healthcare story in episode one 'Common People', seem eerily possible. Advertisement Rashida Jones and Chris O'Dowd star as a couple who are faced with a devastating medical diagnosis. Without the means for the best care available, they turn to a high-tech subscription service that initially works miracles, but turns out to have a sinister edge. 'Bête Noire' is a fast-paced episode that feels like a pyschological thriller. Maria (Siena Kelly) appears to have a very full life, and works in her dream job. However, an old classmate ( Rosy McEwen) suddenly arrives in her workplace and has her questioning her sanity, and reality. Advertisement Episode three, ' Hotel Reverie', was our favourite from season seven. It has more than a few similarities with San Junipero, one of the best Black Mirror offerings to date, and expect a few easter eggs. Issa Rae plays Brandy Friday, a high profile Hollywood star who has become frustrated with her career. She can hardly believe her luck when she is invited to star in a remake of her favourite vintage film. Advertisement It is being reproduced by a cutting edge technology company, and Brandy soon realises it won't be like any film she has worked on before. Transported into an AI-designed universe, her co-stars are AIs. A replication of Ingrid Bergman (Emma Corrin) is more human than it initially seems, with big consequences. 'Plaything' features a character we've previously seen, eccentric video game developer Colin Ritman (Will Poulter). Advertisement One of his new creations is more rooted in reality than behind the screen, and it drives Cameron Walker (Peter Capaldi) crazy.. or does it? 'Eulogy' is a closs second to Hotel Reverie in our ranking, and Phillip (Paul Giamatti) plays a man haunted by his memories. When he is asked to look back on the love of his life with a virtual assistant, Phillip gets far more than he bargained for. Giamatti's performance is powerful. 'USS Callister: Into Infinity' is a sequel episode. It is well saved as the sixth episode and might as well be a film of its own. The effects and story are visually stunning. It boasts an ensemble cast including Cristin Millioti (who plays Nanette Cole), Jimmi Simpson (as James Walton), and Jesse Plemons (as Roberty Daly). Brooker's dystopian anthology series has provided again, and viewers will be hoping for a season eight.

The Mandela Effect: Why everyone's talking about it
The buzz around the Mandela Effect refuses to die down. Thanks to an episode in Black Mirror's latest season, Bête Noire, which is more than just a revenge drama with a sci-fi twist. The episode talks about the Mandela Effect – strange, shared false memories that leave you questioning reality. What Is the Mandela Effect? Back in 2009, paranormal researcher Fiona Broome was shocked to find Nelson Mandela had lived until 2013, while she remembered him dying in the '80s. She wasn't alone, many had the exact same memory. That's when she coined the term Mandela Effect – when a large group of people remember something that never actually happened. Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Liverpool UK Cruises Might Exceed Expectations | UK Cruises From Liverpool Learn More Undo 120551910 Why do so many people remember wrong? Some experts say it's just how memory works – it's not perfect, it fills in blanks and can be shaped by what others remember. But others have more mind-bending theories. What if it's: A parallel universe leaking into ours? A shift in timelines? Or yes, a full-blown glitch in the Matrix? Because honestly, how else do you explain this stuff? Classic Mandela effect moments Experienced these yourself? 'Play it again, Sam' was never used in the film Casablanca, even though people attribute the dialogue to the film It is Looney Tunes, and not Looney Toons Darth Vader said, 'No, I am your father' – not 'Luke, I am your father' in Star Wars (Episode V) Pikachu's tail doesn't have a black tip. His ears do Sherlock Holmes never said, 'Elementary, my dear Watson.' It was just 'Elementary' Is it just us? Or reality that's shifting? The Mandela Effect makes us ask a pretty deep question: When thousands remember something that never happened... is it a failure of memory – or proof that our reality isn't as solid as we think? Either way, it's enough to make you double-check everything you thought you knew. Confused versus onto something In Bête Noire, the main character Maria is convinced her favourite fried chicken place was called Barnie's Chicken. But everyone else insists it's always been Bernie's. Her whole world starts to unravel after that – because if she's wrong about something so clear in her mind, what else might be off? That's the most unsettling part of the Mandela Effect.

Andor's Ben Bailey Smith secretly wore Star Wars socks under costume
Andor's Ben Bailey Smith has recalled sneaking on a pair of Star Wars socks underneath his costume. The actor, who most recently appeared on our screens in the Black Mirror season 7 episode 'Bête Noire', played Lieutenant Supervisor Blevin across five episodes of the Rogue One: A Star Wars Story prequel series back in 2022. Competing on Sunday, 20 April's Celebrity Catchphrase, he told host Stephen Mulhern all about fanboying over a galaxy far, far away on set. "The first movie I ever watched as a kid was Return of the Jedi - I mean in the cinema, 1983, when I was five years old and it blew me away and I became obsessed with Star Wars ever since then," explained Smith, who was joined by Steps singer Claire Richards and Emmerdale's Lisa Riley on the panel. "What was it like when you walked onto the set?" Mulhern went on to ask. "I'll be honest with you, I don't know if you've seen any of the photos but I'm in that sort of '70s-style getup, [Galactic] Empire, looking like a real nasty piece of work with the big black boots," he shared. Read more: Andor star Diego Luna 'ready' to say goodbye to 'beautiful' Disney+ show How Andor season 2 fits into the Star Wars timeline Will Obi-Wan Kenobi season 2 happen? "And unbeknownst to anyone in costume I had like these Star Wars socks - I had Dark Side socks on under my boots and I was waiting just at the side of the set, I was humming 'The Imperial March' like, let's do this!" Composed by the legendary John Williams, 'The Imperial March' first featured in Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back and became synonymous with archvillain Vader. After a three-year break - partly due to Hollywood's writer and actor strikes in 2023 - Andor's second and final season is scheduled to premiere on streaming platform Disney+ with its first three episodes on Tuesday, 22 April. It'll then release three more episodes each week until Tuesday, May 13. This absorbing sci-fi series stars Diego Luna, Stellan Skarsgård, Adria Arjona, and Genevieve O'Reilly. Andor season 1 is available to stream on Disney+, while season 2 premieres Tuesday, 22 April.

"Black Mirror" Season 7's Bête Noire Is Messing With Fans' Heads Like Never Before
This article contains spoilers for the Black Mirror episode "Bête Noire." Since it premiered on Channel 4 more than a decade ago, Black Mirror has become known as a TV show that really gets under viewers' skin. But with its new season, the dystopian drama is messing with viewers' heads in a way like never before. The second episode of the Netflix show's seventh season is titled "Bête Noire", and centres around a woman who feels she is being gaslit by a new colleague, who it later emerges is someone she bullied at school. Slowly, the central character's life begins to unravel as her new colleague continues to make her second-guess herself – by editing CCTV footage of them together, making tweaks to their email exchanges and even changing the name of a chicken shop she was once a patron of. But as more fans have been sharing their feelings about the show on social media, it's become apparent that Black Mirror is using this episode to have some fun at viewers' expense too. You see, there are two different versions of the episode that have been randomly distributed to Netflix users, with some seeing the name written on Maria's boyfriend's hat as 'Barnie's', and others 'Bernie's'. Two versions of the scene when Maria argues with her colleagues about the shop were also filmed. One outcome sees Maria pointing out the shop couldn't be called 'Barnie's' because that spelling wouldn't make sense, while in the other, she argues that it has to be called 'Barnie's' because chickens 'live in a barn' (although her co-worker quickly points out that's not strictly true, either). So my friend and I were watching the new Black Mirror episode 'Bête Noire' and we noticed that there was a stark difference between our episodes… even the viewers are getting gaslit at 16:40! #BlackMirrorS7 — Vastolorde | AKIO 🫡💖🇺🇸 (@actualakio) April 10, 2025 My gf and I are watching the black mirror episode Bete Noir on teleparty and we are watching two different versions of the same episode…in my episode Maria is adamant the chicken shop is Bernie's, in hers she's adamant it's Barnie's….the caps are switched in both too… — dirac (@quinnswm) April 13, 2025 black mirror filming two versions of the bernie's/barnie's scene and distributing them randomly is next level diabolical — Ł å ū r å (@sp00kybinch) April 13, 2025 Count your days @netflix it's Barnie's not Bernie's ! I saw what you did there. It's Barnie's because 'chickens live in a Barn' 'well actually they live in a coop.' — G is ☕️✨ (@GottiStylez) April 12, 2025 Wait until you find out they shot two different versions of the episode. Some people watched a reality where Barnies is the name of the restaurant on the hat originally and for others it was Bernies. They created a real life Mandela effect 💀💀💀 — Oxtail Pricing Specialist (@simsimmaaz) April 12, 2025 Apparently if you watch Bete Noire episode, there are 2 versions of Barnie's/Bernie's. If you watch on Netflix, Maria believes it's Bernie's when everyone else says it's Barnie's. If you watch the torrent version, the whole thing is the other way round. Holy hell. — J. (@thefluffybutt) April 11, 2025 so the hat in the beginning of the episode had barnie's on it then the google search later in the episode was bernie's but apparently some people have it the other way around?????? am i being gaslit??? netflix u sneaky bitch — kayla ✨ (@heykluh) April 13, 2025 Black Mirror has become known for its use of in-universe Easter eggs, of which there are plenty in Bête Noire. The food company Ditta – where Maria and Verity work – is first mentioned in the preceding season seven episode Common People during one of Rashida Jones character's 'ads'. It's also been pointed out that 'Barnie's' itself is a Black Mirror reference, calling back to the infamous season three episode "Shut Up And Dance". The answer to the Black Mirror Bête Noire question is 'BARNIES' as seen in season 3 'shut up and dance' #BlackMirror — Andrew McBride (@andrewmcb) April 13, 2025 Just scrolling up on tiktok for some Black Mirror related videos, and came across a video about 'Shut Up and Dance' episode, and someone in the comment section pointed out that Kenny is literally wearing a Barnies hat, a reference on the latest episode of black mirror🙉 whut?? — Gello (⊃。•́‿•̀。)⊃ (@MYARTSOULAB) April 14, 2025 Barnies tbm é a empresa onde o Kenny de Shut Up And Dance (3x03) trabalha — Muito Black Mirror (@mtblackmirror) April 14, 2025
