Five more nabbed over Butterworth slashing incident
BUTTERWORTH: Police have arrested five more men to assist in investigations into a slashing case in Jalan Raja Uda here last Friday. Acting Seberang Prai Utara police chief Superintendent C. Tharmalingam said the five suspects, in their 30s, were arrested separately in the state yesterday and taken to court for a remand order. "So far, seven men have been detained to assist in the investigation, including two suspects arrested last Friday. "Investigations are ongoing and police believe their arrest will help in solving the case. "The victim, a 41-year-old man, does not know why he was attacked and slashed with machetes by the group nor does he recognise them," he said today. Tharmalingam said police were working to identify the motive behind the incident, including tracking down the mastermind. The case is being investigated under Section 326 of the Penal Code. Those with any information on the incident should contact investigating officer Inspector Irwan Shah at 04-576 2222 (extension 2275) or go to the nearest police station. In the 7.20pm incident, the victim and a male friend was heading to a restaurant for a meal. As the victim opened his car door to go to the restaurant, he was attacked from behind by a masked suspect. The victim tried to flee, but was hit by a car driven by the suspects, causing him to fall. Three men attacked the victim with machetes. The victim sought treatment at a private clinic, then was transferred to a hospital. Police arrested two men in their 30s hours after the attack.

Cops nab five more suspects over brutal Kepala Batas machete attack
KEPALA BATAS: Five more suspects were detained in connection with the brutal attack in front of a restaurant on Jalan Raja Uda here that left a man seriously injured last Friday (May 16). North Seberang Perai acting OCPD Supt C. Tharmalingam said the suspects, all in their 30s, were arrested during Ops Cantas on May 19 and 20. "The operation was conducted by a team of police from the state contingent Criminal Investigation Department," he said. Supt Tharmalingam said the investigation into the case is still ongoing. The arrest brings the total number of suspects detained in connection with the case to seven. On May 18, police arrested two men in their 30s after a 41-year-old man was brutally attack by three masked men at about 7.20pm Friday. Supt Tharmalingam said the case has been classified under Section 326 of the Penal Code. "The police are appealing to members of the public who have any information regarding this case to contact investigating officer Insp Irwan Shah at 04-576 2222 or any nearby police station to assist with the investigation," he said.

Two men arrested over machete attack at Jalan Raja Uda
BUTTERWORTH: Police have arrested two men to assist in the investigation into a brutal attack in front of a restaurant on Jalan Raja Uda that left a man seriously injured last Friday. Seberang Perai Utara acting district police chief Superintendent C. Tharmalingam said the incident occurred around 7.20pm when a 41-year-old local man and his friend arrived at the restaurant for a meal. "As the victim was opening his car door, he was suddenly attacked from behind by a masked man. "The victim attempted to flee but he was hit by the suspects' car and attacked by three masked individuals armed with machetes," he said in a statement today. He said the victim managed to escape to a nearby private clinic, where a doctor provided initial treatment and called for an ambulance and was later taken to Seberang Jaya Hospital and is now in stable condition. "Following the incident, police arrested two men in their 30s and are tracking down another man to assist in the investigation under Section 326 of the Penal Code," he added. Yesterday, a 22-second video showing three men fleeing in a car before crashing into another vehicle at an intersection went viral. The video also shows an injured man, believed to have been attacked by the trio, at a private clinic.

Man arrested for allegedly caning 3-year-old nephew
KEPALA BATAS: Police arrested a man to assist in an investigation into an abuse case involving the man's three-year-old nephew in an incident in Pulau Mertajam, Penaga here last Friday. Seberang Perai Utara (SPU) district deputy police chief Supt C. Tharmalingam said the 34-year-old man was arrested around noon yesterday in Bertam here, following a police report made by the child's father. 'Based on the initial investigation conducted by the police, the child's father, who has divorced his wife (the child's mother), had made a video call to talk to the victim last Friday. 'The child's father, who lives and works in Kelantan, saw his former brother-in-law, who lives in the same house as his ex-wife, caning the child, and the victim was crying at that time,' Tharmalingam told Bernama today. He said a doctor's examination found bruises on the child's legs, and the man claimed he was not caning his nephew to abuse him but rather because the victim often cried. Tharmalingam added that further investigations are underway and the man has been remanded for four days from today to assist in the investigation under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001.
