Fathers in the Park honors vital role played by dads
Snow Hinton Park in Tuscaloosa played host June 7 to a free event that celebrated the vital role of fathers. Fathers in the Park, organized by Tuscaloosa's One Place, offered games, good, kids' activities and giveaways. The goal of the event is to foster connection and togetherness between fathers and their children, according to the event's organizers. Fathers in the Park is part of TOP's Changing Habits and Making Parents Stronger (CHAMPS) program, which helps non-custodial parents build healthy relationships and strengthen family bonds. One highlight of this year's event was the auction of an original piece of artwork created by Jarvis Jackson. Jackson, the father of six, created the artwork to reflect his journey as a father. Tuscaloosa's One Place is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization has been serving local families through after school programs, parenting and healthy relationship education, career development, teen intervention programs and community referrals since 1999. "This is very good thing for future of our players": Hockey India secretary signs MoU with Amity University Online
By Shaurya Dutt Noida (Uttar Pradesh) [India], May 21 (ANI): Hockey India (HI) general secretary Bhola Nath Singh expressed his happiness after the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Amity University Online (AUO) and Hockey India. The MoU aims to provide better educational opportunities for hockey players at the international, national, and state levels. Speaking about the MoU, Bhola Nath told ANI, 'This is a very good thing for the future of our players. Those who are good at sports now have a very good opportunity in their studies as they can study online because of practice, camp, because they don't have time, because they couldn't study in college or school, or they couldn't go to college. They can study online directly from Amity University and get their degrees.' He added, 'I am telling you one thing that there are many players who cannot get promotions due to their studies. You must be seeing that the level at which they should get their promotion, they cannot get it. So now the players don't have to think about it.' Bhola Nath also thanked Amity University chairman Ajit Chauhan for this initiative, saying, 'They can study online directly from here and get their degrees. Now they won't have any problem with that. So now our players will play openly, and they will play well. When they get time, they study online. A very big day has started for them today at Amity University. For this, I would like to thank Amity University chairman Ajit Chauhan and his entire team on behalf of India.' This partnership supports the overall growth of sportspersons by allowing them to continue their education without affecting their sports careers, according to a Hockey India press release. Under this agreement, Amity University Online will offer a special scholarship program designed for athletes. This program understands the difficulties players face in balancing sports and studies and aims to support them in achieving both. Along with up to 100 per cent scholarships through the CHAMPS initiative (Celebrating Heroes with Amity Merit Program Scholarships), Amity University Online also offers free access to a three-month Certificate Course in Sports Psychology to help improve players' mental strength and performance. The MoU was signed by Bhola Nath Singh, Secretary General of Hockey India, and Ajit Chauhan, Chairman of Amity University Online. The signing was witnessed by Sekar J Manoharan, Treasurer of Hockey India, and senior officials from Amity University in Noida. The event also marked the formal enrollment of Indian Women's Hockey Team Captain Salima Tete and defender Jyoti into Amity University Online's Sociology and MBA Marketing programs, respectively. UN Selects Egypt as 1st Country to Implement CHAMPS Initiative for Child Protection
The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) has chosen Egypt as the first country in the world to implement the CHAMPS initiative, a global effort aimed at enhancing prevention systems for children up to the age of 18. This decision not only highlights Egypt's key role in this critical area but also underscores the nation's commitment to fulfilling its international responsibilities in the fight against drug abuse and illicit trafficking. The 'CHAMPS' initiative focuses on bolstering children's resilience from birth through adolescence, working to protect them from drug use and mitigating the various risk factors they may face during different stages of development. Maya Morsy, Minister of Social Solidarity and Chairperson of the Fund for Combating and Treating Addiction and Substance Abuse, delivered a recorded speech at the 68th session of the International Narcotics Control Board, being held at the United Nations Office in Vienna. Morsy emphasized the critical importance of this gathering, which represents a unified effort to safeguard the future of children in a safe and healthy environment. She described the 'CHAMPS' initiative as a 'preventive beacon,' highlighting its innovative, evidence-based approach to protecting children and adolescents, and offering a brighter, healthier future. Minister Morsy further highlighted the significance of Egypt becoming the first nation to officially join the 'CHAMPS' initiative under UN auspices in October 2024. The announcement, made in the presence of the Deputy Prime Minister for Human Development, the Minister of Health and Population, the UN Under-Secretary-General, and the Minister of Social Solidarity, exemplifies Egypt's strong political commitment to the goals of this global initiative. In alignment with Egypt's international and humanitarian responsibilities in combating drug abuse, Morsy outlined the National Strategy for Drug Control (2024–2028), a comprehensive initiative launched under the leadership of President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi. The strategy aims to foster a healthier society by equipping individuals with the necessary skills and knowledge to face the challenges of drug use, particularly among vulnerable populations. Egypt's approach extends beyond prevention and into a broader framework that addresses and mitigates the social and health consequences of drug abuse, including violence and crime. The initiative is being carried out in collaboration with government entities, civil society organizations, and international partners. Minister Morsy also announced that preparations are underway to implement the 'CHAMPS' initiative in newly developed residential areas ('slum replacement communities') in Greater Cairo, marking a pilot intervention within Egypt's comprehensive urban development strategy. Through this initiative, Egypt is investing in human capital to ensure these communities' long-term sustainability and the prosperity of their children. Since September 2020, the Fund for Combating and Treating Addiction and Substance Abuse has been working on drug prevention programs in these new residential areas, in line with the directives of President Al-Sisi. Through the 'CHAMPS' initiative, Egypt will continue to enhance its national prevention efforts with the active involvement of all relevant stakeholders. Morsy reaffirmed Egypt's ongoing commitment to providing comprehensive, free treatment services for all individuals affected by substance use disorders, in full adherence to international standards.
