I wasn't a Billie Eilish fan until her London gig completely changed my mind

It's funny how something as simple as moving the stage can completely transform an arena into an intimate venue, but Billie Eilish did just that. Two years on from being the youngest ever Glastonbury headliner, my expectations were high for the opening night of a five-night run at London's O2 Arena. After that one gig, I have gone from a sceptic to a full convert into the cult of Billie. I'm unsure why the magnitude of her stardom has passed me by for so many years, but her Hit Me Hard and Soft Tour managed to reignite my love for forgotten tracks and emotionally connected me to others, which I never paid enough attention to. That's what good live music should do. Hard and soft couldn't be a more perfect name for this tour as she opened with huge hits CHIHIRO and LUNCH, immediately getting the energy up and everyone dancing. While she has plenty of big dance hits, it was the soft core of the show that really stood out, with those undeniably incredible vocals taking centre stage. By placing said stage in the middle of the O2 — with no viewing restrictions other than the occasional floating speaker — the 23-year-old star made a 20,000-person venue feel downright cosy. Fans were within touching distance without even trying, and coupled with her selfie camera streamed onto the screens, it felt like Billie was reaching back out. It's impossible not to warm to her with her beaming smile and emotional message to the audience that this was a 'safe space' for everyone. Such a stripped-back show is not what I expected from a former Glastonbury headliner's entire tour, but it all feels effortless. Billie was made for this. While her rendition of her Barbie hit, What Was I Made For?, was a particular highlight, the standout moment was by far When The Party's Over. Created by looping vocals, Billie boldly asked the audience for complete silence for one minute. Having seen Beyoncé's mute challenge, I was apprehensive, but the crowd obliged, resulting in a haunting moment with Billie's harmonising filling the O2 arena. It's no surprise her show was a hot ticket, with ticket exchange and resale platform, Viagogo, revealing the number of searches for her shows could have filled Wembley Stadium 12 times over. To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video By far the most popular night was Thursday, July 10, with fans desperate to be the first to see their idol. Of course, Billie's popularity has been helped (as if it needed to be) by viral tracks like Bird of a Feather and her appearance on Charli XCX's Guess remix — both of which feature on the setlist. In fact, when she opened her tour and played Guess for the first time in September, it became Charli XCX's fifth highest-viewed day on Viagogo that year. That's the power of Billie. In a way, I was thankful for the lack of a Charli special guest cameo, although she is projected on screens. This was not her moment. Instead, it proved what the entire hour and a half set had emphasised from the start – a true icon needs no stunts. Yes, Billie floated on a platform a few times, but ultimately this was about the raw talent of the Lunch hitmaker and her band. More Trending I'm still emotional thinking about her rendition of What Was I Made For, sung while kneeling in front of an adoring crowd. Or her shortened version of Happier Than Ever, a song I wish had been given five extra verses rather than cut down. This is where Billie shines; she is in a league of her own among the pop girlies when it comes to sheer vocal talent. I might be so bold as to say that the star delivered the perfect gig. Visually stunning in its simplicity, pitch perfect vocals, dance numbers and a prompt finish at 10pm – I was on the tube home by quarter past (a real win in my books). In a world where more is more and big-name cameos are what make a show memorable, Billie Eilish proved that sometimes just being a strong performer is enough. Got a story? I saw Billie Eilish play in Glasgow – and I have one major question

Now, I am convinced she is the greatest living pop star. The change of heart started with a PR email that dropped into my inbox in late June headed: 'COMPLIMENTARY TICKETS TO BILLIE EILI.' Far be it from me to turn down a good time. Especially if that good time is free tickets to one of the world's biggest popstars (the fifth biggest, according to Spotify's most-streamed ranking). Having secured tickets by doing precisely nothing, I felt it my duty to dig into her back catalogue. What I was not expecting was the depth, originality, and often sheer beauty of it. I was, very quickly, hooked. Two weeks on, and I'd made it to the big time. Well, the top 15% of Billie Eilish fans in the world (again, according to Spotify). A Spotify notification let me know I had become one of Billie Eilish's top 15% fans (Image: NQ) So, safe in the knowledge that I'm a bigger fan than 85% of you, let me tell you about Billie Eilish. She is a cultural icon, who by stubbornly refusing to conform to expectations of what a female pop star should be, has redefined superstardom. Her song 'Not My Responsibility" is more a polemic against misogyny and celebrity than a musical number: 'Am I my stomach? My hips?/ The body I was born with/ Is it not what you wanted?' She can float through a ballad wracked with anguish, then pivot in a heartbeat into basslines filthier than Goldie in the '90s. She did just that – more than once – at her headline show at Glasgow's OVO Hydro on Monday, and it was just as impressive every time. READ MORE: I went to Lana Del Rey at Hampden. It was NOT worth the money With the disclaimer that I may be getting some of the song names and formatting wrong, her rendition of 'when the party's over', sung lying on her back, was one of the most tender – and frankly sensual – performances I've ever witnessed. The instant flip into 'THE DINER' saw her channel the thing that climbs out of the TV in The Ring. The dissonance was jarring, and spectacular. It is no exaggeration to say that her opening two songs – 'CHIHIRO' and 'LUNCH' – were as good as any live performance I have ever witnessed. And I've seen Radiohead. But as truly stunning as the show was, there was one big question hanging over it: is anyone in the crowd even watching? Every major moment was recorded thousands of times from thousands of different angles on thousands of different phones. Scarcely an eye in the stadium was looking at Eilish directly, not through a screen. Even the heaviest bass drops in the biggest dance numbers – where surely the point is to 'lose yourself in music' – saw the thronging crowds simply stand there, phones in the air. Some of the people recording, as with Tuesday's second sell-out show, had queued for literal days. The moment they had waited for had arrived, and they were saving it all for later. Because has something not been lost in giving up the moment in order to film it? Moments are meant to be fleeting, to be grasped, to be left alone. Moments like Billie Eilish delivered are meant to be experienced. On Monday, she gave us something raw, strange, beautiful – a performance full of contradictions, power, and vulnerability. But the tragedy is that so few were truly present for it. Billie Eilish, of all artists, deserves to be seen. And not just in social media clips. Billie Eilish played Glasgow's Ovo Hydro on July 7, 2025. She will play a second, sold-out show at the same venue on July 8.

Billie Eilish Wears String Bikini on Vacation in Barcelona

Much like Dua Lipa before her, Billie Eilish is currently living her best life on vacation. The singer has been hanging with friends in Barcelona, and was just spotted taking a nighttime dip in the water while wearing a red string bikini. FYI, the Daily Mail has the pics! Billie's Barcelona trip comes just days after she was spotted in Venice all-but confirming her relationship with Nat Wolff by kissing him on a balcony. A source told the Daily Mail shortly after that "the relationship between Nat and Billie was a long time coming. It was based on an initial friendship from years ago and a trust that turned romantic and they couldn't ignore the chemistry, with both diving in headfirst. They hang out loads, they have toured with each other, vacationed together and he's been in her music videos. Becoming a couple was the next logical step. They are both very close to their families which is one big reason why they work. They're almost the same person and have many similarities." The insider added that Billie "doesn't have the worry that Nat is out for fame, as he already has his own." Billie and Nat met back in 2023, became fast friends, and before long Nat starred in Billie's video for "CHIHIRO." He and his brother Alex then opened for Billie during the Hit Me Hard and Soft tour, relationship rumors started heating up in March, and they've been vibing ever since!

Billie Eilish and Nat Wolff's Complete Relationship Timeline

Another celebrity couple has emerged in this our year of the lord chaos, aka 2025. Looks like rumors about Billie Eilish and Nat Wolff have been proven true thanks to the couple being spotted making out in Italy. And if the photos took you by surprise, clearly a timeline is in order. Here's how these two took their vibe from friendship to romance. Nat's brother, Alex Wolff, meets Billie at an Oscar party! "Billie and me and my brother, we all have Tourette's. And I think we all have bonded over that," Alex told Variety . "Even when I saw Billie on interviews, I said, 'Oh, she's one of us.'" Billie attends Coachella with Nat and Alex, and they document the vibes on Instagram. Nat appears in Billie's video for "CHIHIRO." Nat and Alex start opening for Billie during the Hit Me Hard and Soft tour. Nat gushes about Billie to Vogue, saying "She's one of those people where almost everything she does, she does better than everyone else. She's like, 'Come see me ride my horse,' and the teacher says, 'You know, if she put all her energy into it, she could go to the Olympics.' You just have to kind of submit to the fact that she's going to be better than everyone else at everything." Billie and Nat are spotted leaving the iHeart Music Video awards. A few days later, sources speak out to Page Six, saying "They are close friends. Nothing more. Billie is affectionate with all of her friends." Deux Moi drops photos on June 8 of the pair kissing in Italy. And that brings us up to date!
