Foreign Investment Clearances From Border Nations Fast-Tracked: Govt Official

Last Updated: The number of pending foreign direct investment (FDI) proposals from countries sharing a land border with India under the provisions of Press Note 3 is currently low. The government has simplified the process for FDI approvals from neighbouring countries, including China, by speeding up decision-making and holding regular inter-ministerial committee meetings to ensure approvals are granted within a timeline, an official said. The number of pending foreign direct investment (FDI) proposals from countries sharing a land border with India under the provisions of Press Note 3 is currently low. Under Press Note 3 of 2020, the government has made its prior approval mandatory for foreign investments from countries that share a land border with India. These countries are China, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Bhutan, Nepal, Myanmar and Afghanistan. As per that decision, FDI proposals from these countries need government approval for investments in India in any sector. 'The government has streamlined a lot the procedures for clearance of applications coming under Press Note 3 of 2020. The time taken to decide on these applications has also come down significantly. Meetings of the inter-ministerial committee are happening regularly to ensure that within the laid down timelines, these applicants are decided upon," the official told PTI. Review of these meetings happens regularly at the cabinet secretary level also, the official, who did not wish to be named, said. At present, there is an inter-ministerial committee headed by the Home Secretary to consider applications under that press note. Industry experts have urged the government to ease Press Note 3 rules, as foreign firms with even tiny Chinese shareholding still need approval under this route. The Economic Survey 2024-25 had made a strong case for seeking foreign direct investments (FDI) from Beijing to boost local manufacturing and tap the export market. As the US and Europe are shifting their immediate sourcing away from China, it is more effective to have Chinese companies invest in India and then export the products to these markets rather than importing from the neighbouring country, the survey had said. At present, the bulk of the FDI coming into India falls under the automatic approval route. China stands at 23rd position with only 0.34 per cent share (USD 2.5 billion) in total FDI equity inflow reported in India from April 2000 to March 2025. ‘I Just Want...': What Food Pharmer Told Nithin Kamath Over Offer To Help ‘Broke' Influencer

Last Updated: Revant Himatsingka thanked Zerodha co-founder Nithin Kamath for believing in him and extending help during a difficult time. At a time when health influencers have been trending online, an individual came forward with a unique blend of humour and truth, creating ripples with his take on the food industry. Also known as Food Phamer, Revant Himatsingka's journey from a high-paying job to becoming a social media informant wasn't an easy one. After losing almost everything over quitting a Rs 2 crore LPA job to fight the practice of misleading food marketing in India, Revant got help from the most unexpected source. It was none other than Zerodha co-founder Nithin Kamath. Back in 2023, Revant left his high-paying US job to return to India and decided to expose the deceptive practices with his witty style. However, the decision came with some after-effects—legal notices, zero income and burnout. Taking to his X handle, Revant shared a long post, detailing the particular phase of his life and how the Zerodha co-founder came to his aid. 'When I was nearly broke, battling lawsuits, and questioning everything—Nithin Kamath offered to help me out. I had quit my job in the US, wasn't doing food brand deals, and I had 8 legal notices. That's when I met @Nithin0dha at an event in December 2023," he wrote. 'I asked him, 'How much equity would you want if you help me?" He smiled and said, 'None. I don't want anything. I just want to support you." I was stunned. I wasn't a close friend. In fact, I had never met him before," Revant shared a part of their conversation. Noting that they weren't close friends, Revant believed it was just the belief that he was doing the right thing. 'In a world obsessed with ROI, here was someone who reminded me that true wealth is in character. I ended up not taking the money, as I want to try to create a sustainable source of income rather than relying on donations or contributions," he wrote towards the end, further expressing gratitude for Kamath's support and inspiration. Social media users quickly took to the comment section and shared their heartwarming reactions. Many appeared impressed with Kamath's supportive gesture. As of now, while FoodPharmer continues to lead his battle against misleading food marketing, he has not forgotten to appreciate a small gesture that gave him a renewed sense of purpose. Sooraj Pancholi was put in the same jail cell as Ajmal Kasab: 'They kept me in the anda cell, treated my terribly'

Sooraj Pancholi underwent a tough time when the police had arrested him in Jiah Khan's death case. While the investivation was on, he went through a tough time. The actor was acquitted in the case in 2023 due to lack of evidence. Special Judge AS Sayyad noted that she was a victim of her own emotions and that Jiah had suicidal tendencies. Meanwhile, Sooraj made a comeback to the movies in the recently released 'Kesari Veer'. In a recent interview, Pancholi opened up on his jail experience and what he went through. He said on Hindi Rush podcast, "It's all hazy. I was just a 21-year-old boy at the time. I was sent to Arthur Road Jail, and put in the 'anda cell' (solitary confinement). I was in the same cell where they had put Kasab. They treated me like I'd done a bomb blast.' At this time, Sooraj was seemingly asked to stop talking by his representatives. Looking at them off-camera, he said, 'Let me talk, it's the fact… It is what it is.' He revealed that he was put in Ajmal Kasab 's cell. "They put me where they put Kasab. I didn't even have a pillow; I'd sleep on newspapers. They treated me terribly, like I'd committed some horrible crime. I'm not exaggerating. It was only after four or five years that I understood what I'd been through. It felt like a dream when it was happening. The CBI investigation happened… They kept me in the 'anda cell'. It was difficult," he said. When Sooraj was acquitted by the court in the case, he took to social media and wrote, "The Truth always wins!' However, Jiah's mother continued to blame him for her daughter's death. She had told CNN News 18, "This is a case of murder. The abetment to suicide case has gone but the murder case is still there. I will not give up hope.. I will keep fighting. I will approach the High Court, Supreme Court, whatever is required to get justice for my daughter.' ‘They locked me up in Ajmal Kasab's jail cell': Sooraj Pancholi opens up about incarceration despite protests from his PR

Actor Sooraj Pancholi, who was charged with abetting the suicide of his former partner, actor Jiah Khan, opened up about the 20-odd days that he spent in Arthur Road Jail. According to Sooraj, he was put in solitary confinement, in the cell that was once occupied by 26/11 convict Ajmal Kasab. He said that nobody realises that he was acquitted after several years, and that he's still dealing with the aftermath of the case. During this time, Sooraj has tried, several times, to mount his acting career. His latest film, Kesari Veer, tanked at the box office. In an appearance on the Hindi Rush podcast, Sooraj was asked if he would be comfortable talking about jail, and he said, 'It's all hazy. I was just a 21-year-old boy at the time. I was sent to Arthur Road Jail, and put in the 'anda cell' (solitary confinement). I was in the same cell where they had put Kasab. They treated me like I'd done a bomb blast.'
