MANSFIELD, Pa. (WETM) — Commonwealth University-Mansfield (CU-Mansfield) held its Spring 2025 Commencement on Saturday, recognizing both undergraduates and graduates for all they have accomplished during their time at Mansfield. On Saturday, May 17, CU-Mansfield hosted two separate graduation commencement ceremonies in the Straughn Auditorium, located on its campus. Both ceremonies honored academic achievement, with different degrees being claimed by the undergraduate and graduate classes of 2025. Corning Community College holds its 66th commencement Starting at 1 p.m., graduates from the College of Health, Science & Technology, the Zeigler College of Business, and all associate and master's programs smiled as they were handed their diplomas. Later at 4 p.m., undergraduates from the College of Arts, Humanities, Education, & Social Sciences took their turns walking across the stage. Each graduate got six tickets to bring family and friends, CU-Mansfield said, and doors opened an hour before each ceremony kicked off. For people who could not make it there in person, a livestream option was also available. For the year 2025, CU-Mansfield welcomed Denise L. Dieter, a Magisterial District Judge from Lycoming County, to speak at commencement, who addressed the graduates with remarks celebrating their accomplishments and bright futures. Pa. (WETM) – Commonwealth University President Dr. Bashar W. Hanna has announced that he will be stepping down from his position at the university at the end of July and assuming a new position with the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education (PASSHE). On Tuesday, April 29, the university released a statement disclosing that Hanna will step down from his position as president of the university on July 31, 2025, to take on a new role as vice chancellor for strategic initiatives for PASSHE. No confidence shown from faculty, coaches toward Commonwealth University president after vote In his announcement, Hanna highlighted his time serving as the first president of Commonwealth University, which was established in 2022 following the integration of Bloomsburg, Mansfield and Lock Haven universities. 'Serving as your president has been the greatest honor of my professional life,' Hanna said. 'Together, we have laid a strong foundation for Commonwealth University's future, and I look forward to seeing CU continue to thrive.' In the release from the university, it was noted that Hanna led the integration of the three universities into Commonwealth University, making it the most affordable State System institution, improving graduation rates, narrowing equity gaps and securing record-breaking philanthropic support. In addition, the university as a whole hit a major milestone by raising $88 million toward its ongoing multi-year $100 million comprehensive campaign goal. CU-Mansfield online fundraiser raises over $80K to support students

MANSFIELD, Pa. (WETM) – Commonwealth University-Mansfield's 'Mounties All In' online giving campaign saw success once again by raising over $80,000 to support its students. From Thursday, April 10, at 10 a.m. through Friday, April 11, at 10 a.m., members of the Mansfield community from near and far gathered to raise money to support student success on the CU-Mansfield campus. Early College, Big Future: Athens student balances high school and college at the same time The online campaign raised just over $80,000, which was raised by more than 450 donors. Donors to the campaign included alumni, students, faculty, staff and more. All proceeds raised from the campaign were dedicated to supporting different scholarships, opportunities and programs at the Mansfield campus. Those contributing to the campaign had the opportunity to choose what program their donation was designated to, with over half of the campaign contributions going to Mountaineer Athletics. CU-Mansfield to see $4M renovations to sports stadium 'Each year, I'm blown away by the generosity of our Mansfield community,' said Kate Billmeyer, director of philanthropy at the Mansfield University Mountaineer Foundation. 'To see our donor count and fundraising total grow year after year speaks volumes about how deeply people care about our students and programs. Whether they gave to athletics, the arts, scholarships or academics – our donors are directly impacting lives, and we couldn't be more grateful.'
