Saints' new uniforms: New Orleans reaches to 2002 for "Gameday Golds"

The major difference with the 2025 version is that the new "Gameday Golds" will utilize the alternate black helmet the team began occasionally wearing in 2022. Shop Saints "Gameday Golds" jersey The Saints, along with every other team, will be permitted to wear alternate and/or throwback uniforms a combined total of four times this season. Between their throwbacks, Color Rush and classic sets, the Saints wore eight different uniform combinations during the 2024 season. New Orleans, which hasn't reached postseason since quarterback Drew Brees retired after the 2020 season, opens at home against the Arizona Cardinals on September 7. New Orleans Saints reveal their new jerseys: 'What's gold is new again'

Cameron Jordan's wish was granted. On Tuesday, the New Orleans Saints introduced the new gold jerseys their all-time sacks leader has spent years asking for. You can see them right here or in the video embedded below. It isn't a bad look at all; the shade of gold they chose matches the controversial black-and-gold helmets the Saints have worn sporadically in recent years. So now the "Color Rush" jerseys have their own corresponding white helmet, while the black lids get a clean new jersey to go with them. We'll have to tip our hats to the Saints for this one. Altogether, this new look resembles something you'd see from a college program like the Colorado Buffaloes or the UCF Knights, which isn't a bad thing. Both of those schools use the same colors as the Saints and have uniforms that are popular with their fanbases. Going to them for inspiration makes sense. After years of the Saints wearing mismatched shades of gold, khaki, and beige, it's nice to finally see some cohesiveness in design. Look good, feel good, play good. Hopefully it leads to more wins. The Saints went 0-4 in their black helmets, which were stuck with the white "Color Rush" uniforms and didn't do anyone any favors. Going back to the drawing board was a good decision. We'll keep an eye out for news of when the team will be taking these new kits into a game in 2025. This could be Jordan's last year as a pro, so it's cool to see him finally get his wish.

CBS Sports' All-Quarter Century Team snubs Saints leaders Cameron Jordan, Demario Davis

Shortly after being left out of the CBS Sports All-Quarter Century Offensive Team, the New Orleans Saints' defensive legends met the same fate. CBS Sports' Bryan DeArdo recently released the defensive side of the NFL All-Quarter Century Team, going over the best individual defenders of the past 25 years, and the Saints had just one player even mentioned. New Orleans legend Cameron Jordan was included in the "honorable mentions" section, which was the least that they could do to honor the future first-ball Hall of Famer. The defensive ends that made the team above him as either starters or reserves were J.J. Watt, Jason Taylor, Myles Garrett, Michael Strahan and Richard Seymour. Currently preparing for his 15th NFL season, Jordan has 121.5 career sacks with 716 total tackles, 65 passes broken up, 233 quarterback hits and 15 forced fumbles. That has earned him eight Pro Bowl nods and a single All-Pro. While he may not have had the same accolades as some of the others, he was fighting uphill in some weaker defenses during his career. Without an iconic postseason run or Super Bowl win, it would be hard to slot him in over the others on the list. It would have been nice to see Demario Davis included in the group of players at linebacker, but it's also not too shocking to see him left out. He has been historically underrated and it is a very tough group to crack. The inside linebackers that got mentioned were Ray Lewis, Derrick Brooks, Bobby Wagner, Brian Urlacher, Like Kuechly, Patrick Willis and Zach Thomas.

Surprise: Saints tease new uniforms reveal sure to please Cameron Jordan

As previously reported, Saints schedule the reveal for July 22 First, the white next? 🤔#Saints | @CaesarsEnt It's been a bit of a roller coaster for the New Orleans Saints uniforms beat this offseason. It was previously reported that the Saints would be introducing alternate uniforms and matching new helmets on July 22 -- only for that date to be moved up to July 9 with the reveal of white-and-gold lids to go with the team's popular "Color Rush" jerseys. For a time, it looked like the Saints wouldn't be getting new uniforms after all. But that might not be the case. On Tuesday, July 15, the Saints shared a promo video teasing something else. Cameron Jordan, who has long lobbied for the team to bring back the gold jerseys they last wore in 2002, is seen strutting into the locker room carrying a Saints-branded gold duffel bag, lit from the inside with a flashing amber light. A strobing effect obscures a shadowy figure wearing a helmet and uniform. Take these hints together and it sure looks like the team is rolling out new jerseys (and maybe another helmet) on July 22. See for yourself: A soft rebrand with fresh white helmets to go with the "Color Rush" uniforms and an all-new gold set would be a welcome change. The Saints are going in a new direction without any of Sean Payton's influence on the team; it's taken some time but they're finally getting out from under his shadow. Ushering in a new era with new jerseys isn't a bad idea. And it's not like the team is getting rid of their usual home and away uniforms. This just helps distance themselves from the last four years of futile football. And bringing back the gold uniforms Jordan has always wanted could signal the end of the line for him, too. This is his last year under contract with the team and he figures to play more of a pass-rush specialist role with young guys like Chase Young and Carl Granderson taking over as starters, giving Jordan opportunities to sack a couple of quarterbacks and help his Hall of Fame resume. He leads all active players with 121.5 sacks (Von Miller is technically ahead of him with 129.5, but has not signed with a team for 2025) and ranks 22nd all-time. Giving Jordan what he's asked for could be a nice sendoff. We'll find out what the Saints have been cooking up on July 22.

Cameron Jordan shares his take on the 'dumbest' rule in the NFL

Jordan gives his opinion on the NFL's most ridiculous penalty One of the NFL's most criticized penalties is when a player gets flagged for ''excessive celebration'' or taunting. It's a 15-yard infraction that often squashes the momentum of a team. Most frustrating is the fact that the penalty is often left to the discretion of a referee, leaving it more open to the criticism of what actually is "excessive" celebration. Count New Orleans Saints star defensive end Cameron Jordan among the many that dislikes the entire rule. At NFL Fanatics Fest in New York last weekend, Jordan was asked what he thought was the dumbest rule in the NFL. ''I think it's the excessive celebration," Jordan said. "I get a sack on a quarterback? Give me five seconds, put the spotlight on me.'' The general celebration rule has been relaxed by the league over the last few years, at least for offensive players. But Jordan believes that defensive players should be allowed to celebrate big plays as much as those on the offensive end can celebrate touchdowns. He also doesn't agree with the perceived crackdown on "taunting" penalties over the last few seasons. ''Let us celebrate. It's okay to taunt. Bring back taunting," Jordan added. He has created plenty of big plays over his 14-year career worth celebrating. He has 121.5 career sacks, second among all active players and the 26th most in NFL history. Additionally, Jordan has 160 tackles for loss, 15 forced fumbles, and 3 career interceptions with one resulting in a defensive touchdown. While an emotional player that loves to have fun on the field, Jordan has been penalized only once in his career for unsportsmanlike conduct. It was during the fourth quarter of a 2017 victory over the Detroit Lions. Jordan had just returned an interception for a touchdown late in the fourth quarter that put the Saints ahead by a score of 52-38 when he was flagged for his celebration. Through his 14 standout NFL seasons, Jordan has only been penalized a total of 34 other times for other infractions.
