It's been a bit of a roller coaster for the New Orleans Saints uniforms beat this offseason. It was previously reported that the Saints would be introducing alternate uniforms and matching new helmets on July 22 -- only for that date to be moved up to July 9 with the reveal of white-and-gold lids to go with the team's popular "Color Rush" jerseys. For a time, it looked like the Saints wouldn't be getting new uniforms after all.
But that might not be the case. On Tuesday, July 15, the Saints shared a promo video teasing something else. Cameron Jordan, who has long lobbied for the team to bring back the gold jerseys they last wore in 2002, is seen strutting into the locker room carrying a Saints-branded gold duffel bag, lit from the inside with a flashing amber light. A strobing effect obscures a shadowy figure wearing a helmet and uniform. Take these hints together and it sure looks like the team is rolling out new jerseys (and maybe another helmet) on July 22. A soft rebrand with fresh white helmets to go with the "Color Rush" uniforms and an all-new gold set would be a welcome change. The Saints are going in a new direction without any of Sean Payton's influence on the team; it's taken some time but they're finally getting out from under his shadow. Ushering in a new era with new jerseys isn't a bad idea. And it's not like the team is getting rid of their usual home and away uniforms. This just helps distance themselves from the last four years of futile football.
And bringing back the gold uniforms Jordan has always wanted could signal the end of the line for him, too. This is his last year under contract with the team and he figures to play more of a pass-rush specialist role with young guys like Chase Young and Carl Granderson taking over as starters, giving Jordan opportunities to sack a couple of quarterbacks and help his Hall of Fame resume. He leads all active players with 121.5 sacks (Von Miller is technically ahead of him with 129.5, but has not signed with a team for 2025) and ranks 22nd all-time. Giving Jordan what he's asked for could be a nice sendoff. We'll find out what the Saints have been cooking up on July 22.

Saints have unique role in mind for two-time Pro Bowl offensive lineman LeCharles Bentley
'I enjoy being able to serve the game and also be able to do so at a much higher level' Now this is cool. On Monday, the New Orleans Saints announced that former two-time Pro Bowl offensive lineman LeCharles Bentley will be returning to the team not as a coach or player, but as a "personnel and performance consultant." Drafted by the Saints in the second round out of Ohio State back in 2002, Bentley is the only offensive lineman in team history to be chosen for the Pro Bowl at two different positions, first as a right guard (in 2003) and later at center (2005). Unfortunately, a knee injury cut short what looked to be a star-studded career, but Bentley has gone on to become a successful personal trainer for some of the league's best offensive linemen. He also works with the league office in New York as an advisor on player performance and development. The new role Saints general manager Mickey Loomis has outlined for him sounds unique. "I think the biggest thing Mickey is asking me to do is just kind of view the landscape of what's happening in the building, where I can add value in the evaluation process and development of players," Bentley told team reporter John DeShazier. "I've spent a lot of time watching film, so I've kind of hit multiple areas. I've spent time in the weight room, I've spent time on the field, I've spent time upstairs being able to assess and evaluate players and I also sit in meetings. "I'm touching multiple places and for me, I really enjoy that because it's a challenge. But it also aligns with my personal skill sets. I don't want to get into coaching, or have aspirations of being a coach. But I enjoy being able to serve the game and also be able to do so at a much higher level." Other former players are still working in the organization as position coaches, like future Pro Football Hall of Fame right guard Jahri Evans. Others work in the front office and scouting department like longtime Saints tight end Josh Hill. After spending ten years with the Saints as a player, Fred McAfee has worked in player development for 17 years, and currently holds the title of vice president of player engagement. Bentley stressed that his ability to communicate with players is different than with coaches, as "it's peer-to-peer engagement" given his resume. And for Bentley, the opportunity to work with Loomis again, as well as the general manager who drafted him in Randy Mueller, is a surreal experience: "To be under their tutelage in another chapter of life is a bit surreal. I really appreciate this time because it's a different season of my life, and I'm enjoying it. So to be able to kind of kick off that next chapter back at home – where else would be a better place to do so?"

Former Falcons running back eligible for Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2026
With the conclusion of the NFL's Pro Football Hall of Fame weekend, future Canton hopefuls can now turn their attention to next year's class. Former Falcons running back Todd Gurley will be among the players with first-time eligibility in 2026. After five productive years with the Los Angeles Rams, Gurley was released following the 2019 season. The Falcons signed the former Georgia standout as a free agent in 2020. While Gurley made a name for himself with the Rams, his lone season in Atlanta was underwhelming. Knee injuries got the best of the former top-10 pick. Gurley rushed for 678 yards and nine touchdowns for the Falcons, adding 24 catches for 164 receiving yards. Atlanta got off to an 0-5 start in 2020, prompting team owner Arthur Blank to fire head coach Dan Quinn and general manager Thomas Dimitroff. This didn't help Gurley in what ended up being his final NFL season. Gurley's career may have ended quietly, but he played at an MVP level early on, and should have an outside shot at the Hall of Fame. In 2014, he won the NFL's Offensive Rookie of the Year award despite missing three games. In 2017, he rushed for 1,305 yards and 13 touchdowns, with an additional 64 catches for 788 receiving yards and six touchdown receptions. Gurley was nearly as good during his 2018 season, recording 1,831 yards from scrimmage and 21 total touchdowns.
