Pedestrian on I-15 killed by semi-truck in Washington County
WASHINGTON, Utah () — A fatal crash involving a semi-truck and a pedestrian on I-15 has forced the interstate to close early Friday morning, May 23. Lt. Cameron Roden with Utah Highway Patrol said the incident happened in the southbound lanes of I-15 near mile marker 12. Details as of 8:30 a.m. are extremely limited, however, Lt. Roden confirmed with that the victim was a woman but did not release any further details about her identity. Roden said there were no other vehicles in the area, and it is currently unknown why the victim was on the highway. First responders have closed southbound I-15 at exit 12 to Main Street. There is currently no estimate for when the interstate will reopen. Drivers are advised to expect heavy delays in the area and are encouraged to use an alternate route, if possible. UDOT encouraged drivers to use the exit to use an alternate route. Drivers may also exit the interstate at Washington Parkway and use Buena Vista Boulevard as an alternate. will update this story as more information becomes available. This is a developing story. Motorcyclist dies after colliding with deer, being run over by vehicle near Hanna
HANNA, Utah () — A motorcyclist is dead after colliding with a deer near Hanna, Utah, and subsequently being run over by a vehicle that had attempted to swerve out of the way late Thursday night. The motorcyclist was traveling east on SR-35 at mile post 30. At about 11:30 p.m., the motorcyclist collided with the deer, according to Lt. Cameron Roden, Utah Highway Patrol. Immediately following the collision, another driver saw the motorcycle in the middle of the road and attempted to swerve out of the way. While doing so, the driver ran over the motorcyclist who was lying in the shoulder, police say. Police have not yet clarified whether the victim's death was caused by the collision with the deer or by the vehicle that ran them over. The individual who ran over the victim contacted police after the incident and remained on scene. This is a developing story. ABC4 will update this post as new information becomes available. Four lanes blocked by crash on I-15 in Salt Lake City
SALT LAKE CITY () — A crash near the 600 North exit on I-15 in Salt Lake City has blocked off all four lanes, leaving only the HOV express lane open for traffic early Monday morning. Lt. Cameron Roden with the Utah Highway Patrol told a trailer rolled near milepost 308 and hit the back of a semitruck. The semi truck was able to be moved out of traffic to the right, but the trailer is blocking several lanes. As Utah Highway Patrol investigates and clears the scene, all four lanes on I-15 have been blocked off, while the HOV lane remains open. No injuries have been reported. The crash has caused significant delays on northbound traffic. The UDOT Traffic Monitor website indicates I-15 is experiencing heavy slowing from North Temple Street to 2100 South. The traffic is also impacting eastbound I-80 in the area of the I-15 interchange and the 600 South exit. Commuters are encouraged to use an alternate route, such as I-215, until the crash can be cleared and normal traffic flow resumes. There is no estimate for when the lanes will fully reopen. Utah couple flown to hospital after semi-truck crashes through Wellington home
WELLINGTON, Utah () — A Utah couple was flown to a hospital after a semi-truck carrying a tanker full of crude oil crashed through their home on Monday morning. Lt. Cameron Roden, Utah Highway Patrol, confirmed with that the incident happened just after 6 a.m. on May 12. The commercial semi had left the roadway, crashing through six cars that were parked at a nearby auto repair shop. The semi-truck continued its path, plowing through a utility pole, a fire hydrant, fencing and an open field before crashing and coming to a stop in a home occupied by an elderly couple and a 12-year-old boy. The elderly couple, who have not been identified, were reportedly taken to a local area hospital but were flown to another hospital for further care. The extent of the injuries is currently unclear. The 12-year-old, who was asleep in the front room, was uninjured but taken to the hospital as a precaution, according to Lt. Roden. The two occupants of the semi-truck were also taken to the hospital. Lt. Roden said one occupant suffered serious injuries while the other suffered low-to-moderate injuries. Images and a video shared with ABC4 by a viewer show the crude oil tanker extending from the home with power lines draped over it. It is currently unclear what caused the semi-truck to leave the roadway and crash into the home. Utah Highway Patrol is on scene investigating and clearing the crash. Crews with Rocky Mountain Power are also on scene working to restore power to the area. According to the , nine customers in the area were impacted by power loss following the crash. The power company estimates power to be fully restored by Monday afternoon. Over 30 kids ‘safe' after bus catches fire, becomes fully engulfed in flames near Moab
MOAB, Utah (ABC4) — A tour bus full of children became fully engulfed in flames near Moab due to a mechanical issue Friday morning, according to Utah Highway Patrol. No injuries have been reported in the incident. The tour bus, which was travelling from the Denver area, was filled with around 36 children that were on a camping trip, according to Lt. Cameron Roden, UHP. The incident occurred shortly after 9:30 a.m. on SR-191. The driver reportedly noticed that the bus was experiencing a mechanical issue and pulled over to the side of the road. The driver then had all the children onboard evacuate the bus. Shortly after, the bus caught fire and became fully engulfed. The tour bus was a total loss, according to Roden. The Grand County School District has sent a bus to transport the kids to a local junior high school. The tour bus company has reportedly sent another bus to pick them up from the school and take them back to the Denver area. SR-191 was shut down after the incident but has since reopened. No injuries have been reported. No further information is available at this time.
