/R E P E A T -- National Lean Conference Comes to Winnipeg June 9-12 to Address Canada's Productivity Crisis and Supply Chain Resilience/

WINNIPEG, MB, May 20, 2025 /CNW/ - Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters (CME) is proud to announce that its flagship Embracing Excellence Lean Conference will take place June 9–12, 2025, at the RBC Convention Centre in Winnipeg, bringing together, over the course of four days, nearly 1,000 industry leaders from across the country to confront Canada's most pressing manufacturing challenges: lagging productivity, supply chain instability, and global trade uncertainty. "Canada's productivity crisis is directly impacting our competitiveness," said Otto Kemerle, CME Manitoba Advisory Board Chair and President of the International Truck Body. "Through Lean, manufacturers can take control of what they can improve. Operations, processes, and people. It's a strategic response to volatility that doesn't rely on subsidies or major capital injections." This year's program will explore how Lean methodologies can be applied to increase productivity without major capital investment, build resilient and responsive supply chains, and help Canadian manufacturers remain agile in the face of global economic shifts. It will also emphasize the importance of people and culture in sustaining long-term performance focusing on leadership, team engagement, and frontline empowerment. "Manufacturers are being squeezed by rising costs and increasing trade uncertainty," said Todd Leroy, Vice President of Manufacturing at Loewen Windows. "To stay competitive, we need to do more with what we already have. Improving productivity through Lean isn't optional; it's essential. It allows us to adapt quickly without relying on external support or massive infrastructure overhauls." This national event will offer immersive learning, practical case studies, and in-depth conversations on Lean manufacturing as a strategy to enhance competitiveness, agility, and workforce engagement. By gathering national voices in Winnipeg, the conference highlights Manitoba's strategic manufacturing and logistics role and supports regional efforts to build stronger, smarter operations that can weather uncertainty. CME STATEMENT ON SUPPORTS FOR ONTARIO MANUFACTURERS IN 2025 BUDGET

TORONTO, May 16, 2025 /CNW/ - Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters (CME) applauds the Government of Ontario for taking decisive action in its 2025 budget to support manufacturers as they face historic challenges created by U.S. tariffs. The province's bold response - through expanded financial support and strategic investment - recognizes the critical role manufacturing plays in Ontario's economy and its future. A key pre-budget ask from CME, the enhancement of the Ontario Made Manufacturing Investment Tax Credit – which raises the credit rate from 10% to 15% and expands eligibility to include non-Canadian-controlled private corporations – along with the introduction of the Ontario Together Trade Fund, represent a timely and targeted approach to help manufacturers invest. "These flexible incentives and grants will help businesses buy crucial equipment and tools when they need it most, supporting their pivot to new opportunities," said Dennis Darby, President and CEO of CME. CME also welcomes the creation of the Trade Impacted Communities Program, which will equip ecosystem partners as they seek to create supportive business conditions and safeguard the manufacturing jobs Ontarians rely on. As highlighted in CME's latest report, Keep Calm and Keep Training, workforce development remains an urgent priority for the manufacturing sector. CME commends the province for its continued commitment to building a stronger workforce, including a $1 billion boost to the Skills Development Fund for industry, and $750 million in funding for STEM programs at post-secondary institutions. "These historic commitments mark a turning point. By working together, we can build on Ontario's strong industrial foundation to usher in an Ontario Made economic revolution - one that champions homegrown innovation, drives global competitiveness, and secures long-term prosperity for all Ontarians," concluded Darby. ABOUT CANADIAN MANUFACTURERS & EXPORTERS (CME) Since 1871, CME has made a difference for Canada's manufacturing and exporting communities. Fighting for their future. Saving them money. Helping manufacturers grow. The association directly represents manufacturers large and small, across all subsectors, from automotive, aerospace and food to the materials, technology and energy that support them. Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters congratulates Prime Minister Mark Carney in forming Canada's next government

OTTAWA, ON, April 29, 2025 /CNW/ - Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters (CME) congratulates Prime Minister Mark Carney in forming Canada's next federal government and looks forward to working with all elected parliamentarians to support Canadian manufacturers in the face of U.S. tariffs. "With Canada's industrial economy under threat, now more than ever, it is important that our newly elected government takes bold and immediate action to protect and grow Canada's industrial economy," said Dennis Darby, President and CEO of CME. Canada's manufacturing sector is a pillar of our economy, contributing $213 billion to GDP, employing 1.81 million Canadians, and accounting for more than 60 per cent of merchandise exports. "U.S. trade actions are jeopardizing thousands of businesses and jobs. Canadian manufacturers will be working urgently with the government and all parliamentarians to advance practical measures to create a supportive environment that encourages investment, innovation, and job growth," Darby concluded. During the campaign, CME released its Blueprint to Strengthen Canadian Manufacturing, which outlines government actions that will be needed to address some of the structural weaknesses in the Canadian economy and to restore our country's competitiveness, investment and long-term resilience. The blueprint includes 17 measures to reinvigorate the Canadian economy by: Breaking the regulatory gridlock that is stifling our economy by reducing red tape, improving regulatory development, breaking down interprovincial trade barriers and fast-tracking project approvals. Accelerating innovation, investment and the adoption of advanced technologies by enhancing Canada's tax competitiveness, reforming federal procurement, stimulating new research and development activity and investing in trade and transportation infrastructure. Expanding and upskilling the manufacturing workforce by increasing training and development support and better aligning immigration policy with manufacturers' needs. Realizing Canada's energy potential and reduce global emissions by streamlining energy project approvals and strengthening government-industry collaboration on climate and energy policy. About Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters From the first industrial boom in Canada, CME has advocated for and represented member interests. More than 150 years strong, CME has earned an extensive and effective track record of working for and with 2,500 leading companies nationwide.
