Arkansas baseball defeats Tennessee to win 2025 Fayetteville Super Regional
Arkansas baseball defeats Tennessee to win 2025 Fayetteville Super Regional No. 3 national seed Arkansas (48-13) defeated No. 14 national seed Tennessee (46-19), 11-4, Sunday in the Fayetteville Regional of the 2025 NCAA Tournament at Baum-Walker Stadium in Fayetteville, Arkansas. With the victory, the Razorbacks advance to the College World Series for the first time since 2022, and ended Tennessee's season. Arkansas scored first after Charles Davalan hit a two-run home run in the third inning. The Vols also scored in the third inning. Cannon Peebles scored after Gavin Kilen grounded into a double play. The Razorbacks scored five runs in the fourth inning and would add three more runs in the seventh inning. Arkansas also scored one run in the ninth inning. Peebles and Kilen both went 1-for-3. In his final game for the Vols, senior center fielder Hunter Ensley went 1-for-3 and scored one run, while Andrew Fischer went 1-for-3. He also recorded one walk and reached base in all of Tennessee's 65 games this season. Liam Doyle (10-4) started for the Vols. He pitched 3.2 innings and allowed five runs, five hits and two walks. Doyle recorded six strikeouts, while totaling 73 pitches, including 43 strikes. Brayden Krenzel appeared in relief in the fourth inning. AJ Russell replaced Kenzel. He pitched 2.1 innings, allowing one run, one hit and one walk. He recorded two strikeouts, while totaling 37 pitches, including 22 strikes. Nate Snead, Brandon Arvidson, Dylan Loy and Tanner Franklin also appeared in relief for the Vols. Jay Abernathy hit a two-run home run for Tennessee in the ninth inning. Bargo blasts two, Vols win Game 1 vs. Arkansas
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (WATE) — Dalton Bargo barreled two home runs to help lead the Vols past Arkansas in game one of the three-game set 10-7. Bargo's first dinger of the game came in the second inning. The lefty went opposite field for his 13th home run of the season. Three Vol Baseball players named semifinalists for the Dick Howser Trophy The Vols went back-to-back in the seventh. Bargo's second blast gave the Vols breathing room. The junior pulled the off-speed pitch over the wall in left-center for a two-run shot. Bargo racked up three RBIs on the night. Right after Bargo's second homer, Dean Curley launched his 12th home run of the season into the left field seats. Many Marin drove in two runs in the fourth inning on an infield single. He's up to 16 RBI on the year. Gavin Kilen singled home a run in the fourth. Tennessee football season opener to be broadcast on 6 News Arkansas trimmed the lead to 7-6 in the eighth inning, but Cannon Peebles crushed a two-run shot to left field for his 11th home run of the season. Tennessee tacked on another run when Kilen singled and Jay Abernathy scored on a throwing error to make it 10-6. Tony Vitello started Marcus Phillips. The Sioux Falls, South Dakota, native completed 4.1 innings, giving up seven hits and three earned runs. Phillips picked up three strikeouts. Dylan Loy took over for Phillips. He saw one batter and struck him out. A.J. Russell took over for Loy. Russell completed two innings with three punchouts. He picked up his first win of the season. Russell loaded the bases, and Vitello turned to Tanner Franklin to get out of the jam. Franklin escaped the trouble with a flyout to left. Nate Snead struggled, giving up four earned runs in two innings of work. UP NEXT: Tennessee will look to win the series against Arkansas on Friday. Pair of Peebles home runs powers No. 2 Tennessee past Kentucky
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — Cannon Peebles hit two home runs in a game for the first time in the Orange & White to help second-ranked Tennessee top Kentucky 8-2. Peebles blasted a three-run shot in the sixth inning and then followed it up with a solo homer in the eighth. The junior is up to seven home runs and 23 RBI on the season. Tennessee trailed 2-0 after the top of the first. Liam Doyle gave up a two-run dinger to Devin Burkes. Vols defensive back Christian Charles enters transfer portal The Vols quickly took back the lead in the bottom of the frame. Dalton Bargo brought home his 28th RBI on the season on a groundout. Reese Chapman plated two more on a single up the middle. Dean Curley added some insurance fifth with a solo home run to centerfield. He's up to 11 on the year. Doyle pieced together another solid outing. The junior had nine strikeouts in seven innings to increasing his season total to 104 punchouts, the most in the nation. Nugent's three-run blast helps No. 4 Lady Vols secure series win over Auburn Tanner Franklin came on to relieve Doyle. He closed out the last two innings with two strikeouts and only one hit surrendered. Doyle improved his record to 7-1 on the season after picking up the win.
