‘Captain America: Brave New World' Arrives On Streaming This Week

Anthony Mackie and Harrison Ford's Marvel movie adventure Captain America: Brave New World is new on digital streaming this week. Captain America: Brave New World opened in theaters on Feb. 14. The logline for the latest Marvel Cinematic Universe chapter reads, 'In Captain America: Brave New World, Sam (Mackie) finds himself in the middle of an international incident after meeting with newly elected U.S. President Thaddeus Ross (Ford). He must discover the reason behind a nefarious global plot before the true mastermind has the entire world seeing red.' Disney recently announced that Captain America: Brave New World will released on digital streaming via premium video on demand on Tuesday, April 15. Captain America: Brave New World will be available on a variety of digital platforms, including AppleTV, Fandango at Home and Prime Video for $29.99 for purchase and $24.99 for a 48-hour rental. In addition to Mackie and Ford, Captain America: Brave New World also stars Danny Ramirez, Shira Haas, Carl Lumbly and Xosha Roquemore, Giancarlo Esposito, Liv Tyler and Tim Blake Nelson. Captain America: Brave New World — which is the fourth Captain America film in the MCU — is directed by Julius Onah (The Cloverfield Paradox). Chris Evans starred as Steve Rogers/Cap in the title role first three Captain America films before he handed the shield over to Mackie's Sam Wilson/Falcon at the end of Avengers: Endgame. Harrison Ford assumes the role of Thaddeus 'Thunderbolt' Ross following the death of Oscar-winning actor William Hurt, who played the character in five MCU films before he died in March of 2022 at age 71. Ford, 82, of course, has starred in the iconic Star Wars and Indiana Jones franchises and played such legendary characters as Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan and Rick Deckard in the Blade Runner movies. In an interview with ABC's Good Morning America prior to the release of Captain America: Brave New World in theaters, Ford said he reveled in the opportunity to play in the MCU because it marks a first for him. "It's a Marvel movie for God's sake. And it's got all of that smash and grab, running, jumping and falling down stuff," Ford told GMA. "Being in a Marvel film is a privilege. It's an introduction to a whole new genre." Plus, Ford added that he was excited that the role of Ross came with an added wrinkle, telling GMA, "He's complicated — he turns into a Hulk on rare occasions." Captain America Brave New World has made nearly $199.7 million in North American theaters and $213.5 million internationally for a worldwide box office tally of $413.2 million against a $180 million production budget before prints and advertising costs, The Numbers reported. Additionally, Captain America Brave New World received a 48% 'rotten' rating from Rotten Tomatoes critics based on 334 reviews, and a 79% 'fresh' score on RT's Popcornmeter based on 10,000-plus verified user ratings. Captain America Brave New World arrives on PVOD on Tuesday.

Captain America: Brave New World called 'a blast' and 'average' in mixed first reactions

Captain America: Brave New World will soon be arriving in cinemas, and some lucky critics have already had the chance to watch the movie and share their initial thoughts. A lot is riding on the superhero movie as it opens up Phase 6 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and is Anthony Mackie's first film in the role of Captain America. The story follows his character Sam Wilson as he is thrust into the middle of an international incident and must uncover the global conspiracy for the President of the United States Thaddeus Ross (Harrison Ford). While all eyes are on this new Cap the first reactions to the movie are mixed at best, with some viewers loving the next chapter in the MCU and others remarking that it has too many flaws to be enjoyable. Many of these critics shared their early thoughts on the film on social media. After seeing the first 30 minutes of the film Washington Post entertainment reporter Herb Scribner wrote on X: 'Absolute blast. All-in on the story. It just checked so many boxes for me. Felt like an MCU movie where other projects actually matter again. Lots of cohesion.' Feeling similarly, The Mary Sue assistant editor Rachel Leishman wrote: "Captain America: Brave New World brings an exciting idea for the future of the MCU under Sam Wilson as leader. A pretty solid Cap meets Hulk film but where it shines is in Anthony Mackie and Danny Ramirez's performances. Harrison Ford is having so much fun and I had fun with him." #CaptainAmericaBraveNewWorld proves Anthony Mackie has RIGHTFULLY EARNED the role of Captain America. He puts it all in as Sam Wilson and his chemistry with Danny Ramirez is great! Harrison Ford as President Ross/Red Hulk is charming and the action really rocks when it happens. — Chris Gallardo 🌊 (@chrisagwrites) February 12, 2025 #CaptainAmericaBraveNewWorld was grounded, entertaining, and to the point. Solid action & mild surprises. Red Hulk 👌🏿Felt like it pulled A LOT of political punches. Hard to tell whether the marketing showed too much or if the movie didn't have much else to offer. 🤔 It was… — Emmanuel (E-Man) Noisette (@EmansReviews) February 12, 2025 But not everyone was as taken with the story, film critic Cris Parker wrote on X that the film "didn't quite hit the emotional or narrative highs I was hoping for. Loved Mackie as Cap and I appreciated the more serious tone but it did feel slightly empty." While critic Emmanuelle Noisette wrote: "Captain America: Brave New World was grounded, entertaining, and to the point. Solid action & mild surprises. Red Hulk [was great]. Felt like it pulled A LOT of political punches. Hard to tell whether the marketing showed too much or if the movie didn't have much else to offer. It was average." What was clear was that most writers were delighted by Mackie's performance most of all, with writer Chris Gallardo saying the film "proves Anthony Mackie has RIGHTFULLY EARNED the role of Captain America. He puts it all in as Sam Wilson and his chemistry with Danny Ramirez is great! Harrison Ford as President Ross/Red Hulk is charming and the action really rocks when it happens." For Gizmodo's Germain Lussier the film had its good and bad points: "Kinda disappointed with #CaptainAmericaBraveNewWorld. There are some good action moments and Mackie is a charismatic Cap but it's all over the place thematically, overly complicated and ultimately a little pointless. It just never had anything to suck me in. A bummer." While Comic Book editorial director Ben Kendrick also said: "Captain America: Brave New World is a lot of things: some good, some okay. It's exciting, offers a worthwhile message in a divisive time, is a return to form for the mainline MCU after a string of disappointments, and is one of the first to progress the MCU story itself post-Endgame." Captain America: Brave New World premieres in cinemas on Friday, 14 February.

Captain America: Brave New World faces pro-Palestine protests and boycott calls at premiere

The Hollywood premiere of Captain America: Brave New World on Tuesday (US time) was met with pro-Palestine demonstrations. A group of protesters, numbering in the dozens, called for a boycott of the film due to its inclusion of the Israeli superhero Ruth Bat-Seraph, also known as Sabra. Demonstrators carried signs with messages such as "Sabra has got to go," "Disney supports genocide," and "Boycott Captain America." The delay may have been linked to the protests. Instead, Marvel streamed the Captain America: Brave New World trailer. Courtesy: X Courtesy: X Courtesy: X In Marvel Comics, Sabra is portrayed as Jewish, a mutant, and the first superhuman agent of Mossad. In the film, Israeli actress Shira Haas takes on the role, but the character has been altered—she is no longer linked to Mossad or depicted as a mutant. Instead, as producer Nate Moore confirmed, Sabra now works for the U.S. government. Marvel addressed the controversy in a statement to Variety, saying: 'While our characters and stories are inspired by the comics, they are always freshly imagined for the screen and today's audience, and the filmmakers are taking a new approach with the character Sabra who was first introduced in the comics over 40 years ago.' The film features a star-studded cast, including Anthony Mackie, Danny Ramirez, Shira Haas, Xosha Roquemore, Carl Lumbly, Giancarlo Esposito, Liv Tyler, Tim Blake Nelson, and Harrison Ford. Captain America: Brave New World is set for release on Feb. 14, with early screenings available on Thursday.

Captain America: Brave New World draws mixed reactions: From 'absolute blast' to 'super flawed'

Marvel's latest installment, Captain America: Brave New World, has been screened for select film journalists, and the initial feedback is divided. Washington Post's Herb Scribner had high praise for the film, calling it an 'absolute blast' and appreciating its strong storytelling and connection to the broader MCU. Others, like critic Cris Parker, felt the film lacked emotional weight, stating, 'Didn't quite hit the emotional or narrative highs I was hoping for. Loved Mackie as Cap and I appreciated the more serious tone but it did feel slightly empty.' Similarly, Emmanuel Noisette noted that while the film was engaging, it 'pulled A LOT of political punches' and questioned whether marketing had given too much away or if the movie lacked additional depth. On the other hand, entertainment writer Chris Gallardo praised Anthony Mackie's performance, saying, '['Brave New World'] proves Anthony Mackie has RIGHTFULLY EARNED the role of Captain America. He puts it all in as Sam Wilson and his chemistry with Danny Ramirez is great! Harrison Ford as President Ross/Red Hulk is charming and the action really rocks when it happens.' This marks Mackie's first solo film as Captain America, following his debut as Sam Wilson/Falcon in Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014) and his journey in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier (2021). The new movie follows Sam as he joins forces with U.S. President Thaddeus 'Thunderbolt' Ross (Harrison Ford) to uncover a conspiracy linked to an assassination attempt and the global pursuit of adamantium. More critics weighed in: 'See #CaptainAmericaBraveNewWorld on the biggest screen possible. It does what it should and is entertaining blockbuster action. Anthony Mackie kicks ass as Captain America. Loved it. A great entry into the MCU. Props to Laura Karpman on a mighty score.' – Jazz Tangcay (@jazzt) 'This was okay. Super flawed and felt like this film was about everybody else except Sam as he steps into the Cap moniker. Doesn't capitalize on its strengths at all, which left me super underwhelmed.' – Brittany Patrice (@BB18180) 'Nothing brave about #CaptainAmerica/#CaptainAmericaBraveNewWorld. A flat political thriller with scattershot emotional stakes, recycled plot points, & a disengaging path forward. Another forgettable villain.' – Jeff Nelson (@SirJeffNelson) The film hits theaters on Feb. 14.
