Cristie Kerr, 47, wins for the first time in eight years at LPGA Legends Championship

Cristie Kerr hoisted a trophy for the first time in eight years this weekend at the LPGA Legends Championship. The two-time major winner and former No. 1 celebrated in style on husband Erik Stevens' 60th birthday. 'It's been a long time since I won a tournament, and it's never easy to win on any tour. To have my friends and family here, and to be able to get my first win in front of my youngest son, Griffin … I'll take it to the grave,' said Kerr, who won 20 times on the LPGA. 'It is just so special. My other friends and family that spent the entire week of their time with us to come out and support, it was really worth it. It was amazing.' Kerr's closing 70 at the Copper Rock Golf Course in Hurricane, Utah, put her at 6 under for the tournament and two strokes clear of the field. Former LPGA player Moira Dunn-Bohls finished second while Maria McBride placed solo third at 3 under. Last year, Kerr finished runner-up to Angela Stanford at the LPGA Legends Championship, three back. Kerr, 47, recently played on the Epson Tour close to home in Scottsdale and finished 10th with her husband on the bag. She also played in the LPGA's Arizona stop – the Ford Championship – this spring, where she missed the cut. 'I don't play full-time on tour anymore," said Kerr, "and I said if I wanted to have a chance here and also at the KPMG Women's PGA Championship, that I needed to get more reps and made myself do it. Got a top 10 at the Carlisle Arizona Women's Golf Classic in Scottsdale, where I live, with my husband on the bag, so it's been a pretty good couple of weeks.' Watch: Upside down shot has to be the best across all professional golf tours on Sunday

Watch: Upside down shot has to be the best across all professional golf tours on Sunday Laura Wearn finished off the Epson Tour's Carlisle Arizona Women's Golf Classic with an epic hole-out for eagle on Sunday. But it wasn't just that she pitched in from off the green. It's how she did it – from the left side with her club turned upside down. Wearn's second shot landed short left up against a water hazard. Rather than stand in the hazard, Wearn got creative from the rough. The 34-year-old, who was pushing her own cart, made the impossible look quite simple. That it was actually caught on camera was also rather remarkable. "This is the best thing I've seen all year," posted Amelia Garvey on the tour's social media post. "I just threw my phone down and started clapping for you," added Leslie Cloots. The closing eagle certainly helped a rough back nine that included three double-bogeys. A final-round 74 gave Wearn a T-32 finish in the Scottsdale event, won by major champion Sophia Popov. A three-time winner on the Epson Tour, Wearn first joined the developmental tour in 2014.

Major champion Sophia Popov wins for the first time as a mom on Epson Tour

Major champion Sophia Popov wins for the first time as a mom on Epson Tour It proved an especially sweet Mother's Day for Sophia Popov, who won the Carlisle Arizona Women's Golf Classic close to her Arizona home. The last time Popov competed in an Epson Tour event was 2020, the same year she went on to win a major championship. The 32-year-old German began the final round with a four-stroke lead at TPC Scottsdale's Champions Course and won by two over China's Michelle Zhang, finishing at 14-under 270 for the 72-hole event. Popov wasn't the only major champion in the field. Another local mom, Cristie Kerr, competed in the event and took a share of 10th. It's been a strange year for Popov, who was stripped of her results from her first three starts of the LPGA season after an administrative error placed her in the wrong spot on the original 2025 Priority List. To correct the error, her CME points, earnings and Aon Risk Reward Challenge points were removed from official standings. Popov went from getting into limited-field events early season to not even qualifying for the Ford Championship, the full-field event near home. She did, however, have a spot in the Chevron Championship by virtue of her 2020 victory at the AIG Women's British Open. She took full advantage of that with a T-30 showing in Texas. After a recent reshuffle, she's now 371st on the priority list. In June 2023, Popov gave birth to her daughter, Maya Mae Mehles. Her original medical leave turned into a maternity leave, and she returned to the tour in 2024, competing in 17 events. She finished 136th on the CME points list and went to the final stage of LPGA Q-School last December finishing T-58th, which means she failed to improve her status. A player is entitled to the equivalent of one full season of events upon returning from maternity leave. Popov, who was incorrectly placed in the highest category on the LPGA Priority List at No. 57, told Golfweek that she reached out to the LPGA in January to clarify her status. She received confirmation from the tour that her priority number of 57th was correct and she was good to go. The tour notified her of the error in March. Earlier this year at the JM Eagle in Los Angeles, where the former USC player competed on a sponsor exemption, Popov said that while she's disappointed in what transpired, she's trying to leave it in the past. "Because I think in the end," she added, "good golf takes care of everything. I think that's just my mindset now." Three weeks later, she's a winner once again and, for the first time, as a mom.
