A world famous F1 driver walked into a Home Depot in Broward County. Fans flipped

If you took a trip to Home Depot in Hollywood to grab a wrench, nail gun or some mulch on Wednesday afternoon, you were probably out of luck. The massive store on Oakwood Boulevard hosted a famous visitor and things got a little cray, as per video posted by Only in Dade. That would be F1 star Carlos Sainz Jr., in town for the Miami Grand Prix at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens all weekend. The clip begins with Sainz, flanked by security guards, getting escorted to the front of the store, with excited looking customers taking his pic. A woman pushes a hat toward him to autograph with a Sharpie ('Please!'), but the Spaniard keeps it moving. Outside in the parking lot, even more fans are gathered behind steel barriers, screaming his name and just basically freaking out. A guard yells 'Back up!' as Sainz climbs into a waiting SUV. So did the Atlassian Williams Racing driver just need a few tools? Naw. Turns out the 30-year-old was making a promotional appearance for Duracell. Home Depot shoppers had already been alerted via social media that the first 75 people to buy a pack of batteries and bring their receipt to the Duracell booth on Wednesday starting at 11 a.m. would score a wristband to meet Sainz. The next time locals can catch the speed demon is at the Miami International Autodrome. Sainz will be in the F1 Sprint (half hour) race on Saturday and the actual main event on Sunday. Didn't snag tickets to the grandstand? There's a free, four day F1 fan fest in Wynwood kicking off 4 p.m. Thursday, and you can watch the action safely on TV.

Motor racing-Madrid F1 circuit can be the world's best, says Sainz

Formula One F1 - Saudi Arabian Grand Prix - Jeddah Corniche Circuit, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia - April 20, 2025 Williams' Carlos Sainz Jr. ahead of the race REUTERS/Thaier Al-Sudani MADRID (Reuters) -Madrid's Madring Formula One circuit can host the best race on the calendar when it debuts next season, according to home driver Carlos Sainz. The Spaniard told reporters on Friday that the 5.47km layout, with 22 turns, will have its own hybrid character with tight street sections and a more open area with high-speed corners. "I think we can be the best circuit in the world and the best event of the whole calendar," said the Madrid-born Williams driver, who took part in a press conference as an event ambassador. "There will be 24 or 25 races, and I honestly think along with Mexico, Miami, Las Vegas that do it very well but sincerely I trust a lot in Madrid and I believe that Madrid can do better." Local authorities said licences and paperwork were ready from Friday for building work to begin. Spanish engineering firm Acciona and France's Eiffage have won the contract to construct the circuit in an urban area in Madrid's northeast, around the IFEMA exhibition centre. It is expected to be completed by May 2026 and cost 83.2 million euros ($94.57 million), Acciona said. The Madrid circuit will eventually replace Barcelona's Circuit de Catalunya, currently host of the Spanish Grand Prix, which is located some 32 km from the eastern port city with a roughly 45-minute walk from the nearest station. Spain is set for an overlap next season with Madrid and Barcelona, which will be in the last year of its contract, both expected to feature. Sainz escapes penalty for press conference swearing

Bahrain Grand Prix stewards have decided not to investigate Carlos Sainz Jr. for using expletives during Thursday's FIA press conference. The Williams driver said 's*** happens' when discussing his recent fine for missing Japan's pre-race anthem ceremony. Sainz, who serves as a Grand Prix Drivers Association director, avoided becoming the first F1 driver penalized under new FIA misconduct rules. The regulations, introduced three months ago, could have resulted in a €40,000 fine (€10,000 base multiplied by four for F1). The incident follows Sainz's €10,000 penalty in Japan (with another €10,000 suspended) for arriving five seconds late to the national anthem ceremony, which he attributed to a medical issue. The GPDA has repeatedly criticized the FIA's fining system for minor infractions.

This is an exciting week for Formula One fans around the world as the much-awaited 2025 season begins in Australia with the first Grand Prix being held at the Melbourne Grand Prix Circuit. This week we are taking a close look at the six newcomers to the track. British teenager Ollie Bearman caught the attention of racing fans last season when he made his Formula One debut at the 2024 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. The 19-year-old ended up replacing racer Carlos Sainz Jr. who had to withdraw for medical reasons. Bearman ended up finishing seventh in the race making him the youngest-ever driver to compete for Ferrari and also the youngest driver to score points on a debut for Formula One. This season he is racing for Haas and there is no doubt that all eyes will be on him in Melbourne. We all know that Mercedes is missing Lewis Hamilton this season as he has moved on to Ferrari. It has long been questioned who would be filling his extremely hard to fill boots. The answer is the 18-year-old Italian Kimi Antonelli. He has been winning his way through the motorsport ranks since he was a young boy winning the European Karting Championship in 2020 and 2021. It will be interesting to watch how he handles the F1 track and especially after taking the place of seven-time world champion Hamilton. In other news this week, turn to our Week's Pick pages to read about how to slow down biological ageing.
