Weather expert issues hurricane warning as Tropical Storm Erin forms in Atlantic
A weather expert has issued a warning as Tropical Storm Erin is forecast to strengthen into the first hurricane of the Atlantic season this week.
A tropical rainstorm in the eastern Atlantic Ocean has evolved into Tropical Storm Erin, and could become a major Category 3 hurricane by the weekend, according to reports.
Alan O'Reilly, the hobbyist meteorologist who runs the popular Carlow Weather social media pages, has said that that Tropical Storm Erin "has the potential to become a serious hurricane," although he added that it's far too early to know exactly what kind of a threat it will pose to Ireland should it make its way into the western Atlantic.
"Tropical Storm Erin has formed in the Atlantic and has the potential to become a serious hurricane," O'Reilly said in a post shared on his Carlow Weather X / Twitter page on Monday.
"Current track forecast keeps it in the Atlantic and turning North but one to watch over coming days."
Meanwhile, O'Reilly said we can look forward to a warm and sunny week ahead, with temperatures expected to climb as high as 29C on Tuesday.
The weather expert warned that we could see the odd shower over the coming days, but the weather will improve once again as we head towards the weekend, with sizzling temperatures and clear blue skies expected as Oasis bring their long-awaited Live 25 reunion tour to Dublin's Croke Park on Saturday and Sunday.
"5pm on Monday and the cloud - we did have some rain in the South, and Southeast - has pretty much cleared most areas," he said in a video message to his followers on Monday evening.
"And what it has left behind is lots of warm sunshine. It's going to be a warm night - it won't get below 16C in some parts - so a warm, humid night. Best of luck trying to sleep if you don't like that.
"But tomorrow, it's going to get up to 28C, possibly even 29C, with good sunny spells. A small chance of local showers kicking off, especially in the Southeast corner, probably around Wexford, but it's only a small chance.
"So enjoyed the bit of warmth, and it looks like it is going to stay mainly warm for the rest of the week now, easing back a little bit before picking up again, probably for Friday and the weekend."
