Weather expert issues hurricane warning as Tropical Storm Erin forms in Atlantic

A weather expert has issued a warning as Tropical Storm Erin is forecast to strengthen into the first hurricane of the Atlantic season this week.
A tropical rainstorm in the eastern Atlantic Ocean has evolved into Tropical Storm Erin, and could become a major Category 3 hurricane by the weekend, according to reports.
Alan O'Reilly, the hobbyist meteorologist who runs the popular Carlow Weather social media pages, has said that that Tropical Storm Erin "has the potential to become a serious hurricane," although he added that it's far too early to know exactly what kind of a threat it will pose to Ireland should it make its way into the western Atlantic.
"Tropical Storm Erin has formed in the Atlantic and has the potential to become a serious hurricane," O'Reilly said in a post shared on his Carlow Weather X / Twitter page on Monday.
"Current track forecast keeps it in the Atlantic and turning North but one to watch over coming days."
Meanwhile, O'Reilly said we can look forward to a warm and sunny week ahead, with temperatures expected to climb as high as 29C on Tuesday.
The weather expert warned that we could see the odd shower over the coming days, but the weather will improve once again as we head towards the weekend, with sizzling temperatures and clear blue skies expected as Oasis bring their long-awaited Live 25 reunion tour to Dublin's Croke Park on Saturday and Sunday.
"5pm on Monday and the cloud - we did have some rain in the South, and Southeast - has pretty much cleared most areas," he said in a video message to his followers on Monday evening.
"And what it has left behind is lots of warm sunshine. It's going to be a warm night - it won't get below 16C in some parts - so a warm, humid night. Best of luck trying to sleep if you don't like that.
"But tomorrow, it's going to get up to 28C, possibly even 29C, with good sunny spells. A small chance of local showers kicking off, especially in the Southeast corner, probably around Wexford, but it's only a small chance.
"So enjoyed the bit of warmth, and it looks like it is going to stay mainly warm for the rest of the week now, easing back a little bit before picking up again, probably for Friday and the weekend."

‘Hot day everywhere' as new Met Eireann map pinpoints 30C heat & 5 warmest counties amid 10-day Hurricane Erin watch

Roscommon, Leitrim, Cavan, Longford, Clare, Cork, Kerry, Wexford and Kildare won't be the hottest but could see 28C temps A NEW Met Eireann map has pinpointed the exact areas where temperatures could hit 30C as Ireland is blasted by a mini heatwave this week. Forecasters have confirmed the country can expect high temperatures until at least the weekend - but people have been warned to brace for thunderstorms in some areas on Wednesday. Cathal Nolan of Ireland's Weather Channel said: "It will be a hot day everywhere, with temperatures into the mid to high 20's, but parts of the Midlands in particular will see values approaching or exceeding 30C. "It will feel very muggy and humid with little or no wind overland." Met Eireann said tomorrow will be mostly dry with spells of sunshine, however, a few scattered showers that could be heavy or thundery may develop in places through the day. Advertisement The forecaster's HARMONIE weather model has showed that temperatures of 30C could possibly hit in parts of Tipperary tomorrow. The weather map shows temperatures in Galway, Offaly, Kilkenny Limerick and Laois being among the highest in the country tomorrow - between 28C and 29C. Roscommon, Leitrim, Cavan, Longford, Clare, Cork, Kerry, Wexford and Kildare look set to reach temperatures topping 27C, according to Met Eireann's model. Nolan and Met Eireann both confirmed that conditions will remain "very warm" and humid with highs into the mid 20s again as we approach the weekend. Advertisement Nolan said: "Some pleasant sunshine about and just an isolated chance of some thundery showers breaking out from time to time. But in general, an excellent week." Apocalyptic flash floods, seas of icy fog and frozen battlefields… How wars could be fought with 'weaponised' weather Met Eireann warned that Wednesday will bring thunderstorms. However, the thunderstorms are expected to clear up by Thursday as a mix of cloud and sunny spells with scattered showers hit the country. On Friday, sunny spells with light outbreaks of rain will break up through the day to leave longer spells of sunshine later on. Advertisement Met Eireann said temperatures will max out between 21C and 25C on both days. HURRICANE ERIN FEAR Looking towards the weekend, Met Eireann said: "Current indications suggest that it will continue warm into the weekend with temperatures generally in the low to mid-twenties. "Plenty of dry weather is likely too though further showers are possible at times." But Nolan said Ireland should be focusing on what will soon be named as Hurricane Erin, which he said could move our way. Advertisement The weather boffin explained: "One particular feature we do need to pay attention to is what will soon be Hurricane Erin, which could well move in the direction of Ireland and northwest Europe over the coming 10 days, with a minor risk of some strong winds or heavy rain. "But that's a long long way away and for now, it's just a case of paying attention to the models and seeing what that system does once it pushes away to the northeast off the coast of the US sometime next week before making its way across the Atlantic."

Humid start to the week as weather expert hints that 'it's looking good'

It looks like summer could be making a late comeback after an unpredictable few weeks which saw plenty of rain, wind and fluctuating temperatures. Many will be waking up to a wet and misty start to the week this morning, Monday August 11, but the good news is that the weather is likely to take a turn for the good as the week progresses. This will be music to the ears of Oasis fans lucky enough to secure tickets for the Croke Park concerts this weekend as the forecast is currently looking very positive for Saturday and Sunday. While there remains some uncertainty in the forecast, one Irish weather expert is optimistic that this coming weekend may see a positive change in conditions. Alan O'Reilly, who mans the ever-popular @CarlowWeather account on X, posted that "next weekend could see heat return, lots of uncertainty yet on details but it's looking good." Met Eireann seems to tentatively agree with the prediction, anticipating dry weather and quite high temperatures into the weekend. Below is the national forecaster's expectations for the week ahead: Monday, August 11 Many places will stay dry today as spells of warm sunshine develop into the afternoon as rain in the north gradually clears. There will be some scattered showers in generally humid conditions, with highs of 26C forecast. Tonight will be largely dry for most areas but some heavy showers could fall in certain areas. Tuesday, August 12 A similar day is expected tomorrow as some spells of warm sunshine are forecast as temperatures will range between 21C and 26C. Wednesday, August 13 Another mild and humid day in store midweek as sunny spells may be broken up by some showery outbreaks and there is the possibility of thunderstorms. Highs of between 21C and 25C are expected. Thursday, August 14 A near-identical day on Thursday as Met Eireann predicts a mixture of cloud and sunny spells with scattered showers in highs of between 21C and 25C. Friday, August 15 Sunny spells are forecast for Friday with light outbreaks of rain breaking up into the afternoon but longer spells of sunshine are forecast later on. Weekend There remains uncertainty in weather models but current indications suggest that the warm weather will continue and dry conditions are likely but there may be the odd shower at times.
