Start of Cannes Film Festival 2025 Celebrated with a Glamorous Beach Lunch at Carlton Cannes, a Regent Hotel, with Vanity Fair
Cannes Film Festival 2025 has kicked off in style with the first major event of the fortnight hosted at Carlton Cannes, a Regent Hotel – part of IHG's luxury and lifestyle portfolio. The Vanity Fair x IHG Beach Lunch welcomed some of the world's most renowned stars and industry icons, including Julia Garner, Naomie Harris, Jessica Madsen, Fabien Frankel, Erin Kellyman, Emma Weymouth, and Anson Boon. The Vanity Fair x IHG Beach Lunch was a precursor to the Official Opening Ceremony of Cannes Film Festival 2025 hosted at Le Palais des Festival, during which Robert De Niro was presented with an honorary Palme D'or for Lifetime Achievement. The Vanity Fair x IHG Beach Lunch took place at the Carlton Cannes Beach Club and was hosted by Richard Lawson, Chief Critic at Vanity Fair, David Canfield, Hollywood Correspondent at Vanity Fair, and Jane Mackie, Senior Vice President, Global Marketing Luxury, Lifestyle and Premium Brands at IHG Hotels & Resorts. A total of 50 guests enjoyed a three-course Riviera inspired menu crafted by Executive Chef Laurent Bunel. The menu featured dishes including a Bay of Cannes Sea Bass Tartare with flying fish roe, purslane & local flowers, as well as a dessert of local lemon, sour cream & kaffir lime meringue. A long dining table on the beach, adorned with the Carlton Beach Club's iconic yellow and white stripe motif and fresh floral arrangements by Djordje Varda, created a moment for guests to savor the delights of the Cote d'Azur. Jane Mackie, Senior Vice President, Global Marketing Luxury, Lifestyle and Premium Brands at IHG Hotels & Resorts, said: 'Nearly 80 years ago, the Carlton Cannes hosted the very first Cannes Film Festival. And here we are, some years later, getting together once more to celebrate the richness of film and the industry's creativity. The world of film may have come a long way since 1946, and our hotel has certainly evolved during that time. But what hasn't changed is the glamour, the elegance, and the joie de vivre which is still a cornerstone of this two-week-long festival.' Richard Lawson, Chief Critic at Vanity Fair, said: 'I'm thrilled that VF is once again partnering with IHG at this year's Cannes Film Festival. The Carlton is an iconic hotel and the dream location to gather with emerging and established talent as we celebrate the beginning of this year's festival. I truly can't imagine a better way to kick things off.' Beyond the festival, Carlton Cannes, a Regent Hotel, stands as an elegant grand dame along the French Riviera. Its timeless elegance and thoughtful service continue to lure discerning travelers from around the world through its doors. The hotel's legacy is intricately woven into the very fabric of cinematic history, having served as the iconic setting for Alfred Hitchcock's 'To Catch a Thief' and an illustrious home away from home for Hollywood royalty through the ages. Carlton Cannes shines brightly on the French riviera as a Regent Hotel. IHG has opened several new flagship properties within the Regent portfolio in recent years. Regent Hong Kong, overlooking Victoria Harbour, reopened in 2023 following a two-year transformation, while the opening of Regent Shanghai-on-the-Bund represents another property in a prime location, strengthening the brand's presence in mainland China. Regent Santa Monica Beach officially opened in October 2024, marking the brand's momentous return to the Americas. This elegant beachfront resort cements the reimagined Regent brand and the beauty of contrast by combining the glamour of Los Angeles with the splendor of the coast.

Inside the Mission Impossible premiere as Tom Cruise fans queue for over 6 hours
Tom Cruise fans were so eager to see his new Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning film that they queued for over six hours outside of the Cannes Film Festival on Wednesday evening Eager Tom Cruise fans were sat outside of the Cannes Lumiere Theatre over six hours before the Cannes Film Festival premiere of his new movie, Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning. The movie premiered on Wednesday evening, with stars such as Eva Longoria, Bella Hadid and Andie MacDowell joining Tom, Hannah Waddingham and the rest of the film's cast in walking the red carpet. And while the A-list may have all casually rocked up for the 6:45pm kick off, many others got to the theatre that morning to get in the 'last minute' line - an area where those without tickets can wait and may be able to fill spare seats at the premiere. But with the premiere's strict black tie dress code, it meant the waiting fans spent all day under the French sun in tuxedos and gowns - with many sitting on the ground in their best ensembles. On the other hand, the A-list guests were promptly escorted from their beachfront hotels - Hotel Martinez, JW Marriott, Carlton Cannes and Hotel Barrière Le Majestic Cannes, to name a few - in blacked-out BMW cars. And while it may have looked glamorous from the glossy pictures, the red carpet wasn't for the weak as crowds of fans flocked by the barriers to catch a glimpse of the celebrities. Despite the carpet's strict 'no selfie' policy, those lucky enough to get on there with the famous faces did sneak some snaps from the carpet. Once they had walked the carpet and headed up the famous red stairs into the theatre, it was time for Tom and the rest of the cast to take their seat near the front of the screen, while successful fans who had waited outside for hours were escorted to the very back of the theatre. The premiere came hours after the film's cast gathered above the theatre for a photocall, with Tom waving to fans on his way into the building around 12pm. Donning a burgundy co-ord, Tom smiled for pictures and said hello to the waiting crowds from a distance before chatting with his co-stars. But making a much more understated departure, he and co-star Hannah Waddingham left through the side door and were promptly driven back to their hotels to prepare for the evening. With a busy schedule, Mission Impossible is heading to London's Leicester Square this evening for the global premiere. A number of famous faces are expected to attend, with Tom and the cast taking a quick trip from the Cote D'Azur to be there.

Halle Berry's Cannes red carpet outfit banned over strict new dress code
Halle Berry has revealed that she had to make a last-minute 'pivot' when it came to her outfit for the Cannes Film Festival Opening Ceremony as it disobeyed the controversial new dress code. As Cannes Film Festival's new dress code made waves yesterday, it has left many A-list celebs scrambling for new outfits to abide. And Halle Berry, who is on the festival's coveted jury this year, has admitted she had to make a last-minute switch-up when it came to her outfit for Tuesday evening's red carpet opening ceremony. In an update to the dress code this week, the festival banned full nudity and 'voluminous' outfits, writing on its official charter: 'For decency reasons, nudity is prohibited on the red carpet, as well as in any other area of the festival. Voluminous outfits, in particular those with a large train, that hinder the proper flow of traffic of guests and complicate seating in the theatre are not permitted." Talking at the Cannes press conference on Tuesday, alongside fellow jury member and succession actor Jeremy Strong, Halle admitted she was amongst those slightly blindsided by the new rules. "I had an amazing dress and I cannot wear it because the train is too big, so I, of course I'm going to follow the rules," she said with a sigh. "But, I had to make a pivot. But the nudity part I think is, probably, also a good rule," added Halle. The rule change comes after Julia Fox bared all in a see-through corset during the 2023 edition of the Cannes festival, alongside many others making some eyebrow-raising red carpet appearances over the years. While it's also hot off the heels of a string of controversial appearances from Bianca Censori, who wore a naked dress - leaving little to the imagination - to the 2025 Oscars, after several bizarre outfit choices. With a new outfit in toe, Halle is expected to walk the red carpet alongside the likes of Tom Cruise and Naomi Harris for the opening ceremony, which kicks off the ceremony and features a screening of new musical comedy film Leave One Day. Robert De Niro will also be awarded the the honorary Palme d'Or award for lifetime achievement at the ceremony. Later in the week, Tom Cruise will take to the red carpet for the highly-anticipated premiere of his new Mission Impossible movie, while others such as Eva Longoria, Heidi Klum and Bella Hadid are spending time on the Cote d'azur for the two-week long festival. For those looking to celeb-spot, hotels such as the Martinez, Hotel Du Cap Eden Roc and the Carlton Cannes, A Regent Hotel, are all housing the A-list this year for the festival. You can also head to hotspots such as the Carlton Cannes beach, Lucia Cannes and Copal Beach to try your luck at some parties across the week. While you may not make it inside, those A-Listers have to stumble out at some point...

'I'm at Cannes Film Festival and here's where I find all the A-Listers'
With the best in the business descending on Cannes Film Festival this week, here's how and where to find all of your favourite famous faces - but be warned, celeb-spotting isn't cheap Cannes Film Festival kicks off today with a star-studded opening ceremony on the Côte d'Azur, and with celebrities like Robert De Niro and Bella Hadid in attendance, there's plenty of star spotting to be done. I'm here at the film festival and have already paid a visit to some of the locations the A-list are residing in, with Julia Garner, Naomie Harris and Bella Hadid all just touching distance away. The Carlton Cannes, A Regent Hotel, is where you're likely to find Julia Garner, Naomie Harris and Mobland star Ansel Boone. These celebs are staying in the beachfront haven and are amongst those attending Tuesday's invite-only Vanity Fair lunch at the hotel's beach club. Perfect for people watching, I spotted Julia grabbing a drink in the lobby while Ansel laughed along with pals by the door, so very casual. However, paying a visit to this hotel won't be cheap, with a diet coke from the lobby bar coming in at €14, while the cheapest drink on the menu is an espresso coffee at €9. They will bring you some nuts and olives though, if that helps the blow... Across the beach is the coveted Hôtel Martinez, which this year is housing the likes of Bella Hadid and Heidi Klum. If you're looking to catch some nonchalant A-list action, this is the place to hang around. Heidi and her husband Tom Kaulitz arrived to the five-star hotel yesterday, joining Andie MacDowell and supermodel Irina Shayk. With Chopard taking over it's rooftop bar for their star-studded line-up of exclusive events, this hotel is a hub for the A-list. You'll have to be smart about your celeb hunting though, as the Martinez bar is closed for bookings and up to the security guards whether you'll be let in. Slightly further out is the Hotel Du Cap Eden Roc, which has previously welcomed Tom Hanks, Leonardo Di Caprio and the Kardashians. It is also the home of the annual amfAR Gala, which will return for another year next week. If the celeb hotel haunts aren't your speed, there is also the film festival itself. With the opening ceremony kicking things off tonight and Tom Cruise heading to the Mission Impossible premiere tomorrow evening, it wouldn't go a miss sticking around the Palais - where the premieres take place. And if the stars aren't in their hotels or at the screenings, they are likely at an invite-only party. Luckily, we've got access to many of these too. Head to hotspots such as the Carlton Cannes beach, Lucia Cannes and Copal Beach to try your luck at some parties across the week. While you may not make it inside, those A-Listers have to stumble out at some point...
