'I'm at Cannes Film Festival and here's where I find all the A-Listers'

Daily Mirror13-05-2025

With the best in the business descending on Cannes Film Festival this week, here's how and where to find all of your favourite famous faces - but be warned, celeb-spotting isn't cheap
Cannes Film Festival kicks off today with a star-studded opening ceremony on the Côte d'Azur, and with celebrities like Robert De Niro and Bella Hadid in attendance, there's plenty of star spotting to be done.
I'm here at the film festival and have already paid a visit to some of the locations the A-list are residing in, with Julia Garner, Naomie Harris and Bella Hadid all just touching distance away.

The Carlton Cannes, A Regent Hotel, is where you're likely to find Julia Garner, Naomie Harris and Mobland star Ansel Boone. These celebs are staying in the beachfront haven and are amongst those attending Tuesday's invite-only Vanity Fair lunch at the hotel's beach club.

Perfect for people watching, I spotted Julia grabbing a drink in the lobby while Ansel laughed along with pals by the door, so very casual.
However, paying a visit to this hotel won't be cheap, with a diet coke from the lobby bar coming in at €14, while the cheapest drink on the menu is an espresso coffee at €9. They will bring you some nuts and olives though, if that helps the blow...
Across the beach is the coveted Hôtel Martinez, which this year is housing the likes of Bella Hadid and Heidi Klum. If you're looking to catch some nonchalant A-list action, this is the place to hang around.
Heidi and her husband Tom Kaulitz arrived to the five-star hotel yesterday, joining Andie MacDowell and supermodel Irina Shayk.

With Chopard taking over it's rooftop bar for their star-studded line-up of exclusive events, this hotel is a hub for the A-list. You'll have to be smart about your celeb hunting though, as the Martinez bar is closed for bookings and up to the security guards whether you'll be let in.
Slightly further out is the Hotel Du Cap Eden Roc, which has previously welcomed Tom Hanks, Leonardo Di Caprio and the Kardashians. It is also the home of the annual amfAR Gala, which will return for another year next week.
If the celeb hotel haunts aren't your speed, there is also the film festival itself. With the opening ceremony kicking things off tonight and Tom Cruise heading to the Mission Impossible premiere tomorrow evening, it wouldn't go a miss sticking around the Palais - where the premieres take place.
And if the stars aren't in their hotels or at the screenings, they are likely at an invite-only party. Luckily, we've got access to many of these too.
Head to hotspots such as the Carlton Cannes beach, Lucia Cannes and Copal Beach to try your luck at some parties across the week. While you may not make it inside, those A-Listers have to stumble out at some point...

'Even my kids stopped saying "I'm bored" on this school trip for families'

Whether you have a family that likes to be on-the-go, or you're a parent who'd love to be on your child's school trip – or even if you struggle to think of ways to tire the kids out in the holidays – this grand old building could be just right for you, Usually a destination for residential school trips, former manor house JCA Condover Hall in the Shropshire countryside also opens its doors in school holidays for active families to stay for two, three or four nights, leaving screens behind and taking part in loads of activities. My husband Rob and I have three high-energy children and enjoy a challenge ourselves, so when I heard about JCA's Family Adventure holidays, I was keen to give them a go. Our children range from five to 12 years old so finding something to keep all entertained can be difficult. But when I discovered Condover Hall offers activities ranging from abseiling to axe throwing (over eights only), via a Mission Impossible-style laser assault course, I knew the usual holiday choruses of 'I'm bored!' would be unlikely to follow us here. Once we had settled into our rooms and had lunch, we were introduced to instructor Skip, who looked after us on all the activities throughout our stay. He was knowledgeable, patient and encouraging, and by the second day the kids were treating him as part of the family. Accommodation is in modern blocks close to the old manor house, which were fairly no frills, but clean and comfortable, with tea, coffee, toiletries and towels provided. Our block had a lounge with sofas and a TV downstairs, but we didn't use it much as we were far too busy with all the activities. Meals are served canteen style, with a good amount of choice, plenty of salad and fruit with every meal, and all dietary requirements catered for. There is an indoor heated pool that families can book to use for an hour in the evenings, and also a bar with plenty of games to keep the kids happy while the grown-ups enjoy a relaxing drink once the activities are complete. The staff were all really friendly and because they are used to welcoming school groups, they were all brilliant with the children. Manager Fi made sure we had everything we needed and answered all our questions, including lots about the history of Condover Hall. The manor house was built in 1598 for Thomas Owen, a judge and politician in the reign of Elizabeth I. He died before it was completed and it passed to his son Roger, whose initials can be seen on the grand fireplace in what is now the reception area. In the nearby churchyard are tombstones and commemorative sculptures for some of Thomas and Roger's descendants, telling the stories of their lives and deaths. During the mid-20th century, the property was bought by the Royal National Institute of Blind People for use as a residential school and has also been used as a school for autistic children. JCA bought the property in 2010 and, after a huge refurbishment, it has been welcoming groups on activity holidays since 2011. And our family verdict? When asked what her favourite activity was, Hazel, five, said: 'I enjoyed swimming the most. And the zip wire. And Grid of Stones because everyone was a team. And the food, especially the lasagne. I learned that the safety rope can hold an elephant, so it can definitely hold me.' Sam, 10, said: 'My favourite activity was the aerial trek. I went round four times. The climbing was good too. And the food was yummy.' Libby, 12, added: 'My favourite activity was the aerial trek as me and Daddy were having a competition over who could go round fastest. The staff were all really nice and made sure everyone was included and having fun.' And Rob, 43, was at least as enthusiastic as the kids – particularly about the axe throwing – and is already angling to go back. My favourite thing was spending so much time with the family and seeing the kids challenge themselves and come away beaming, eyes sparkling as they achieved more than they thought they could. I would thoroughly recommend JCA Condover Hall to any family that likes their holidays adventurous and packed with fun.

The 11-year-old T-shirt designer dressing the stars

From Elle Fanning to Michelle Pfeiffer, a young man named Dylan has dressed some of the biggest names in Hollywood. His bespoke, hand-decorated white cotton T-shirts started as a hobby, but have now featured on the red carpet of Cannes and his collections quickly sell out. He's also 11 years old. Dylan launched his brand, Dylan's T-Shirt Club, when he was six after his grandmother gave him a set of fabric felt-tip pens. Fans of the Los Angeles-based designer, who is half-British, include the fashion maestro Sir Paul Smith and Balenciaga's new creative director Pierpaolo Piccioli. There is one of his T-shirts hanging in the wardrobe of the actor Mark Wahlberg. Super producer and Louis Vuitton's head of menswear, Pharrell, owns a style featuring a design inspired by The Lego Movie from 2014. Dylan's T-Shirt Club can even boast that it has been showcased on one of the world's most famous red carpets. Fanning modelled one of Dylan's creations with a pair of wide-leg blue jeans and platform heels while promoting her film, Sentimental Value, at the Cannes Film Festival last month. It featured the handwritten slogan, 'Joachim Trier Summer', referencing the film's hip Danish-Norwegian director. Less conspicuous was some low-key branding in pink neon on the back — though it was still spotted and namechecked by Vogue. Such attention is why the mightiest haute couture houses fight tooth and nail for VIPs to wear their made-to-measure creations on La Croisette. Answering questions from The Times over breakfast before school, Dylan said that Fanning choosing to wear one of his pieces on the French Riviera was 'really cool'. He has been drawing his whole life and moved on to T-shirts after his grandmother — 'an awesome artist' — gave him some fabric pens: 'The first one was for fun, but I really enjoyed doing it so I made another and another. And kept going.' If you are wondering how a tiny T-shirt brand started by a tween gains the attention of an It girl, know that Dylan's mother, Sam, is Fanning's personal stylist. She may have put her son's T-shirt on the rail, but her client still chose it over something from a revered couturier such as Valentino, Chanel or Dior. Dylan designed Fanning's tee, as with each he puts his hand to, at his kitchen table. His father is British and his paternal grandparents live in Durham. He says he fits in his hobby around seeing friends and homework and has designed 317 T-shirts in total. They are advertised on his Instagram page @dylanstshirtclub, which has nearly 6,000 followers. Every one is unique and usually commissioned especially. Prospective shoppers often get in touch to request their own through Dylan's parents, but most are given away as gifts. Not for long. Demand is so high that he is hoping to launch an official merchandise line later this year. Recently he had two collections sold through exclusively Woven, a menswear boutique in Durham. Those swiftly sold out. 'I love what I'm doing right now … I'm not exactly sure what the future holds,' he said when asked if they could one day be spotted on a catwalk. I love creating things in different areas, so it might end up being some mix of T-shirts, music, art, film … let's see!' His teachers will be relieved to hear that his fashion career is not taking up all of his time. 'I usually always get my school work done first before doing any work on T-shirts,' he promised.
